The real rub comes in what sort of abilities various characters have. IF the Big Six have the most important villager abilities, then we're shooting ourselves in the foot by focusing on them. So that's probably the case.
PackerFanatic

I think the odds are probably just as good that we have the important villager abilities as the Big Six do. What do we feel is more important: a circle of trust or an important villager ability? I haven't been in too many games with conversions, but I know they can throw a big wrench in things.
PackerFanatic
03-04-2013, 01:53 PM
And that is not me trying to say that any villager ability, big or small, is not worth something. I just almost think that having an honest-to-goodness circle of people we know are clear and cannot be uncleared is of more importance.

I guess what I'm not sure of is how the Big Six would find their targets -- if they get a search, or it is a special order or what.
Figuring out how the Big Six work into it is the main thing I'm trying to understand so far. Something about the idea of going after them sounds counter-intuitive and I'm not sure why.

i suspect thats the case too. how can the 6 become murderers? i suspect they have important villager roles also. maybe the bodyguard, but if he guards a certain person he kills them and joins the wolves. a seer that can scan but if they scan the worng person the kill them and join the wolves. same with a duke.. as a matter o fact there are 6 potential, might have 2 of each of those roles. can anyone whos played more than me tell me of other regualar villager roles that might be in the game?

Right, I wouldn't be shocked if they have option to become murderers once they locate their antagonist role. And achieve a personal victory in process. But that is 100% speculation ... still, trying to figure that out was part of why I asked the question about wolf mechanics for the game.

I expect that every night the Big 6 "scan" one person looking for their informer. If they find them they kill them, or perhaps have to kill them the next night. Could be different, but that's what I would expect.

Well, CW made a point of saying that most of the abilities won't be standard WW roles, so I'm not sure we'll be able to figure that part out.

All that said, it does seem to be to our advantage to find the Big Six and eliminate them, as that seems to be a village strategy that has better odds of working out for us. Unless all of our best roles are with them (possible).

So that answer seems to at least somewhat go against the idea that "Big 6" all get scans for players to kill. Well, if it is allowed then that would be creating a "join wolves" defection for each player, who would then be acting against the rest of us for the duration of the game.
While I'm sure the odds of the Big 6 all getting their targets and having that opportunity are pretty slim, it sure does seem to aggressively stack the deck against the villagers as the game progresses.

This is why I think we have 2-4 murderers to start. The odds are on a couple of conversions occurring over the course of the game, bringing the maximum number of murderers to the 4-6 spot that seems appropriate for a 22-person game.

Bullet, I'm guessing we're going to be getting some unconventional roles. Both because CW told us that already at the start of the game and because I can suggest that my abilities don't neatly align with a standard WW mechanic.

The way CW has warned about the potential for a bloodbath makes me think that there isn't an option for the Big Six to kill their informer or not, it would just happen. Otherwise there doesn't seem to be a lot of motivation to kill anyone except if you just really want to be a wolf this game.

Some thoughts:
Hmm, I like the idea by (Autumn?) suggesting that the Big Six are here to kill one person, their specific Informant, and have the means to find them by scan or something like that. That would make sense.
bullet mentioned the weapons that are not "in" the game, at least not discussed in the ruleset. But they integral to the movie. I am going to guess those weapons are in one of two places, 1) each of the Big Six has one, or 2) Mr. Boddy has all of them (his role description suggests he has six ways to kill or something like that).
Mr. Green-- he doesn't have an Informant to match. But it seems likely he has a similar chance of becoming a murderer as the other Big Six do. So that must mean he has a target. I'm going to guess it is either Mr. Boddy or the butler, as the only other non-Informant, non-Big Six roles that started in the house. I am leaning to Mr. Boddy, blackmailing Mr. Green about his homosexuality.
Like hoops, I will also confirm that my "role" has some similarity to a role I have seen in WW in the past, but is not an exact fit.

whats a soothsayers role do?
check to see if a person's statement is truthful
Danny
03-04-2013, 03:47 PM
Gets to question the truthfullness of another players statement by getting a yes or no answer from the GM. For example.
I am not a murderer.
You could then examine the statement and the GM will give you a yes or no response of whether that is true. Though some games do block out direct wolf / not wolf statements like that.
Chief Rum
03-04-2013, 03:47 PM
whats a soothsayers role do?
The soothsayer can submit a post or a remark within a post and ask the GM whether that remark/post is true.
So let's say you say "I am not bulletsponge" and a soothsayer submits that remark to the GM, he will get a false read (will be told you are lying).
There are usually limitations put in, like you can't use it on a "I am not a wolf" post, or something like that.

whats a soothsayers role do?
can tell if a statement from another player is truthful or not...thats why chubby said he isnt a big 6 or a murderer.
i honestly dont ever bother with making statements like that because the first time the role was used in one of our games (i think it was one of the spawns) people went crazy posting "I am not a spawn", and it caused all kinds of confusion because while there were different varieties of spawn.
now, it is typically built into the role description that statements like "i am not a wolf" or "i am a villager" cant be scanned by the soothsayer.

If I had to choose between murrayyyyy and britrock, I would likely go with britrock, simply because I have been a wolf with him, and I know he can be a good one. Aww, but that's the rub. You, fontisian the player, being someone who doesn't feel like becoming a murderer, will desire to avoid your informant and thus not become a murderer. But you, fontisian in your role as a Big Six member, have an obligation to your character to find and eliminate your Informant, regardless of the cost, because your character is being blackmailed.
And, we, as the village in general, cannot trust that you will successfully avoid your Informant, even if you attempt to do so, nor can we control what happens if you fail to avoid your Informant.

How that information save me if I were about to be lynched? With the way the thread has been going, it's much more likely that it would seal the deal.
One kill in a game this large is not that helpful, especially considering that it can easily fail should those general conditions not be fulfilled. I judged my chances of being killed early because of this, which are admittedly high, against the usefulness of the information for town and decided to reveal.
Vote: murrayyyyy to keep this competitive

I guess the question I have is do the big six have a victory condition to kill the informant that they are targeting? It is an easy way to keep them wanting to kill the informant regardless of becoming a wolf or villager because of it.

I do not have an additional victory condition, unless I kill my informant and become a murderer. Seriously, if I did I wouldn't have role revealed.

Alright. My powers aren't all that useful and I don't really want to become a murderer, so giving you guys this information is probably the most helpful thing I can do.
I'm a member of the Big Six. I can try to kill one person at one point in the game. If the character fulfills some pretty general conditions, they will die and I will still be a towny. If they are my informant, they will die and I will become a murderer.
Do you have to specifically request to try and kill that person? Or do you have to search?
And if you have to search do you have to do it every night?
Speaking for myself I appreciate the info since most of my day has been speculating on the Big Six.

My power basically consists of "pick a player to kill and hope they meet the requirements." If they don't, nothing happens and my one-shot ability is wasted. Maybe CW will tell me some more info later, but for now that's all I know.
I would only try to kill my informant if I wanted to be a murderer. Since I want to stay town, I'm trying to avoid killing my informant.
font, only issue I have with your reveal is we don't know if there are any other means by which you could be converted, in which case you may have helped the murderers' side out inadvertently even though you want to remain on the non-murderer's side.

It was a placeholder vote. I wanted to see what would happen with a fourth candidate out there. It won't stay there. But I haven't decided where to go yet either.
Personally, I like both murrayyyyy and britrock88 to remain in the game. But I'm not going to hide from the vote and go elsewhere unless another candidate makes themselves available.

Okay, so let's play the assumption game.
Let's ASSUME fontisian is telling the truth and all Big Six have a similar ability level to hers. They each have one time kill attempts that could make them murderers.
So let's think about this. I am also going to assume that Mr. Green's target is one of the 13 in the house at the start, just like the other Big Six.
That means we have six Big Six "shots", with a 1/12 chance per shot (13 in the house minus that Big Six player himself/herself) of being successful and turning that Big Six into a murderer.
If every Big Six player takes that 1/12 shot at random, they have an 11/12 chance of missing their Informant. My quick math says the chance all six miss is (11/12)^6 == about a 59% chance they all miss. That means it is unlikely their actions without further info will be successful and turn one of them into a murderer.
Now in actuality, their odds get better as they follow the thread and make a reasonable determination of who is not likely to be their Informant. Plus, the lynches will remove targets as well. And even as we add Extra Roles, the potential Informant target pool will only remain the same or get smaller. So let's say that while on average, it's unlikely nay one of them will have success, it is actually quite likely with the improved odds that at least one will have a successful kill.
Point is, CW has to plan for those odds in his game balance. If all Big Six start as non-murderers with a chance to become murderers, he can only really consider one murderer as likely to come from that group.
But we know murderers exist in this game already. Would a Big Six start as a murderer at all? This makes me wonder. I am thinking now that the Informants and the Extras are likely to be our pool of original murderers in the house (with 2-3 coming in one by one with the Extra Roles).

font, only issue I have with your reveal is we don't know if there are any other means by which you could be converted, in which case you may have helped the murderers' side out inadvertently even though you want to remain on the non-murderer's side.
Other concern, I suppose, is that your target might have some ability to act against you as well.
Chubby

This could be true. I think having one reveal so that we all have an idea of the original 6 ability may not be a bad thing, but I definitely dont think all of them should start revealing.

03-04-2013, 06:36 PM
That's interesting, that's not how I imagined the ability would work. Only one shot each, with no chance to search for the informant. Huh. And it sounds like whether or not they are converted depends on something to do with the informant. I'll have to ponder on what that might be.

To be 100% honest I would vote for me too. Damn straight I'm a dangerous player for it being my first game. Three players (and Chief) know how I play and can probably vouch for me. Plus I was crazy enough to try a suicide mission to end the last game.
Don't hold back a vote to keep me active because it's only my 2nd game. I'll be around for the next game(and probably more my style being conventional). Plus someone's gotta go first. My take on fontisian's explanation is that the conditions relate to whether a non-specific Informant target would die. I didn't sense there was any doubt that if she were to kill her Informant, she would be converted to a murderer.

Heh, well, I assume that I have one scan given normal WW rules for the BG. But if there's more than one bodyguard... Or the bodyguard role is "non-normal" as CW's rules write up suggests... I could get more scans.

The murder of hoopsguy's evil twin has cast suspicion on the entire house. Despite a fantastic dinner of monkeys brains, washed down with champagne and cognac, you can't escape the fact that SOMEONE HAS DONE MURDER MOST FOUL.
You argue well into the evening, with many guests drumming up evidence that clearly proves one of their number has killed hoop's twin. It has come down to a vote...
THE COOK DID IT!
The police are called, and haul murrayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy off to jail. Reports later indicate that murrayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy was innocent! The Cook is released from prison, and flees the country, never to be seen again.
The Cook could poison someone's meal, causing them to miss their night action the following night. The Cook was NOT a murderer.
FURTHERMORE!
The doorbell rings, and three more guests arrive at the house!
Darth Vilus

Those three guests have arrived. They are eligible to be targeted tonight, they may take night actions, and will be around to be lynched tomorrow.

Also, do not expect roles to be the normal WW roles. There are a few similarities, but for the most part, they are weird.
That tidbit does give me some pause about this reveal for what it's worth. But when you give me a few seconds to make a decision, it's usually going to be the lowest risk option.

No, I mean rather than just saying "I didn't avoid voting him because I didn't believe his reveal," you just refer to breaking a tie. People are questioning your vote because you voted for a seeming seer, so you might want to mention that you didn't believe the reveal.

Murrayyyyy, part of the fun in being a villager goes beyond "cool role" and seeing how much you can derail the wolves through logic and reason in the thread. Of course, there isn't much of either on Day 1. Hope to see you in a few more games sometime soon.
With the movement this game I'm guessing our info-roles will be busy tonight.

It was more along the lines of between a reveal and my character, I knew I was shot. When Brit revealed that late I was basically stuck with, but I can poison your food (nothing to be kept over a seer.)
I'll be back to screw with people's minds in the next game.

I know reading isn't your strong suit so i'll repeat, for a 3rd time.
based off of post 418, i thought it was tied. I dont like ties. no, i don't put stock into reveals 3 minutes before deadline and no, i don't think there's any full blown classic WW roles in this game. I think there's a lot of partial roles since everyone has some sort of ability.
