Oh yeah and jaundice sucks. Really hard on mom not to be able to hold her much and see her shaking under the lights and not much we can do since she can't be swaddled in blankets right now. Hopefully good news in a couple hours.

What's the deal with the middle name? Family name or something? It's interesting and unusual.

Maraid is Gaelic for Margaret. My wife has the same middle name and we liked it since she is 1/4 Irish and my wife's mom's name is Margaret so it ask worked out.
The ma sounds like the beginning of mother and then raid is sounds just like it normally does.

Your family's in my thoughts, DG. Here's hoping you get her home soon!

She's been in the NICU for twenty four hours so far. Won't be coming home tomorrow, hopefully by the weekend. She's having an issue with thick blood she needs to have her "crit" at 65% but she has been extremely slowly dropping from her high of 69.3. Also she has low glucose level at 43 that they are a bit concerned about.
The new nurse for the night was just drawing blood and mentioned it was like sludge... not the best bedside manner with the parents in the room. It's hard watching this. Almost broke down when I saw a family getting discharged with their baby today (when we should have got to go as well).
I'm staying positive with some positive steps that we have had today but it's still hard to always be the rock for my wife with everything going on.

Feel like I'm taking to myself right now. Can't change the title to something more appropriate about the situation.
But we did just get some encouraging news. The IV blast they have been doing is doing it's job and her latest blood result was 68.7%!

Glucose levels remained stable and good throughout the night!
They are drawing blood to check her crit soon, should find out those numbers in an hour.

Dan, we ran into a bilirubin issue with our first born and they had to take blood constantly to see how it was doing. One of the nurses working with him attempted to take blood and said, "he don't bleed good." Loved hearing that as he's screaming his head off during his second day of life.
Things'll get better and will be all worth it when you bring her home. Take care...

My oldest son was in NICU for about a week for the same issue. Then on a lighted blanket at home for another week. I have confidence that she will come around, just hang in there. It's tough not being able to do much but sit and look at your newborn through the glass, but she will get over it, you will get home, and then you can hold her all you want.

Congrats again, Dan. Stay strong. Girls are such warriors and she will do just fine! I know this because my baby girl was in the NICU For 8 weeks after delivering at 27 weeks. I know you know that, but it's just a reminder. I know you're anxious to bring her home though! IT was quite the opposite for us when Leah was sitting at 2 pounds... we wanted her to stay as long as she needed! Weird feeling for sure.

She's a NICU short timer, but it was still rough. I got to talk with a couple of the other families that have kids there and hear some of their stories. Babies that were born at 14, 21, and 24 weeks! It was inspiring seeing their strength and positive energy. There was one family specifically that I spoke with during night 1 (of 2) in the NICU that just really made me feel at much at ease as I could. I went and picked their little girl up a card and wrote them a message saying how much their positive energy and just overall attitude helped me and thanking them. I ended up seeing them again yesterday and had a long chat as well.
I just want to do something for all the families that are in there that really have it bad (considering we really were just short timers).

Great news, DG. NICU is always rough for everyone involved. I had a niece who was in NICU for months. Her story had a happy ending, but going there was always an intense experience, and not everyone in there was so fortunate :( So I'm always happy to hear about another happy ending.
