What games are your kids playing?

I don't have kids, but I teach and I see my students playing web games and talking about other games I have never even heard of! Use this thread to stay hip and with it or use it to share with other parents to help them get their kid that next great gift.

My son will play Minecraft all day, every day if we let him. Other than that, he will sometimes play Skylanders on the Wii.

My 4 year old won't put the iPad down over the last few weeks because he is addicted to Lego Batman 2.

He also has a huge fascination with Skylanders but we don't let him (or his little brother) play the game (though they have managed to amass a large collection of the figures).

Finally, on weekends they are allowed to play on the GameCube and the 4 year old loves Mario Sunshine. His little brother likes to watch, or sometimes will request to play Diddy Kong Racing on the N64 but mostly just to dance to the intro song.

Son Ivan (4 months) is still pending, but based on current trends, we may need to get a drool cover for the iPad.

My 3 year old nephew loves angry birds in all its variety on my brother's ipad and PS3.

My 10-year-old plays Minecraft non-stop. He has access to YouTube solely to watch videos of other people playing Minecraft. He has Minecraft-themed tee-shirts.

He does enjoy board games. We play a lot of Ticket to Ride, Citadels, Wyatt Earp and Scotland Yard lately.

For my 6 year old, it was Skylanders until he beat the game. After all the money we put in that game, he hasn't touched it since he beat it. Now he's playing Thrillville on the 360 and the original Roller Coaster Tycoon on the PC. He also likes the Indie Arcadecraft game from XBox live. No hope for him. Doomed to be a nerd.

My 15 finally got the new Sim City last night. (I tried to warn him about the less than enthusiastic response it seems to have gotten here but ... no dissuading him).

He also mentioned -- as we head into summer -- that he'd really like to get back into the tabletop stuff at some point. I've got various & sundry sports games on the 'top that he's dabbled with, problem seems to be mostly time & space these days.

My high school students talk a lot about Cards Against Humanity and enjoy playing Apples to Apples as well.

My four year old is really into Trouble (both the game and getting into it), Cars Monopoly (which is fairly inspired) and a niche game called French Toast by an educational company and, I have to admit, it's pretty cool.

My boys love Minecraft and would play it all day if I let them. The various Lego Wii games also get a lot of their limited screen time. The boys are 11 and 8. My one year old daughter likes getting toys of similar sizes to the Wii controllers and waving them around while standing in front of her brothers as they attempt to play. Fun times.

8 year old - Magicka, Battle for Wesnoth, Fallen Enchantress, UrQuan Masters
Board Games - Summoner Wars, Formula De, Cosmic Encounter, and others,
just don't know the order of preference.

My 8 year old is much more after my own heart and prefers board games to computer games. My oldest son prefers computer games as there is more flash and less planning in the ones he likes (for Minecraft he prefers the MP servers which I don't under stand).

3.5 year old daughter loves playing the monkey pre-school games, endless alphabet, the spelling game with the rat, and the montesori games. We generally don't let her play "games" on the tablets (android) or phones (iphones). I'm sure we're horrible parents, but she gets tons of enjoyment out of the "learning" games. I know she plays games on her grandmother's phone, but once a week won't kill her.

She does love playing with legos, doing puzzles and writing, but she is an extreme perfectionist and gets insane when one of her letters/numbers is slightly off. We try to tell her they look good (which they do), but she just freaks out.

She also likes anything with swimming, bubbles, or chalk... or just running endlessly for hours at a time.

Thankfully she hasn't learned the "make daddy's life miserable at dinner, bath or bed" game yet.

Both girls are into Minecraft, the younger one loves watching the videos of someone called CupQuake, which I'm not terribly crazy about. However, they're also into several light MMORPG games such as Wizard 101, Pirate 101, and Pixie Hollow. They'll also play some boardgames like Monopoly from time to time. Interestingly, though my seven-year-old has little ability to read or understand tactics, she rather likes playing Ticket to Ride on Steam, enough so that I actually bought the regular board game in the eventual hope that she'll figure out how to play the game as intended sometime soon.
