Just curious if anyone has been using either of these Amazon offerings for computing resources. Our company has been using a colo in Austin for several years, but they just got bought, and the rates are going up. We are about due for a server refresh, so I was looking for options. I think the way I'd want to go would be with the VPC offering, so that every machine isn't internet accessible.

We have been using the VPC offering some. I deal almost purely with the network security side though, so can't comment any on billing, or server/application resources or support.
Out of the various contenders, Amazon has been our favorite in architecture discussions though by a pretty long shot. This is once again without me knowing anything on pricing and speaking only from a technical standpoint

The pricing doesn't look to be bad at all. There are only a few servers that need to be up all of the time, and the rest we can bring up or down as needed. It is ~$1.50/day for each of the servers we need up all the time. Not too bad at all.
From a technical standpoint, I've been impressed. It is incredibly easy to spin up a new instance of an operating system. So far in the testing we've done, it looks like it is going to work fine for us. Should also be fairly easy to migrate our existing ESX VMs to their system.

Holy crap we should have made this move a long time ago. In addition to being a lot more flexible and expandable than our previous self-hosted solution, the price can't be beat. We are going to be saving around $10K per year.

Several of my co-workers are. I'm a little tired of traveling for work though so decided not to go.
