If you have a spot open, and wouldn't mind waiting a while for him to be worth a lot (since he is currently only inadequate) I would keep him, I like defenders that have head specialist, with a season of training and a little stamina at the end of the season he would be a pretty good Central Defender for the future, that said if you look hard enough you can probably find a higher value inadequate with head specialist and 17 for only $4,000.

That depends on quite a few things. Stamina plays a HUGE role in value (it's like a multiplier). Form also plays quite a large factor in value. Oh yeah, don't forget the rest of the skills :P Anyway, a scorer would have to be analyzed individually to determine whether he is close to popping or not.

No, offensive. An offensive central defender, who needs playmaking ability (and some stamina, which this guy sadly doesn't have, but that would be easily fixable) will add to the ever important midfield rating from an unusual spot. As long as you have a strong defense, it's a great idea to sacrifice a little of it to shore up the midfield.

Well, I am one of those people who the more I learn about hattrick, the more I think defense it MUCH less important than midfield. My defense and goalie are doing very well, and I'd easily sacrifice a part of my central defense (just a part, his solid will still contribute) for the help he'll give to my middies.

I'd say it would depend on who your playing. If your playing a team where the midfield dominance is in question, or close. Play him offensive. If your already dominating in the midfield, just play him normal. This really becomes evident with event goals (which seem to go right around even the best defensive ratings.) and the current match engines priority on midfield play.

Remember to keep a flexible lineup/strategy mindset each week. I've stolen more than one win going against teams that stick with a single lineup or play their players for stars rather than looking at the other teams strengths and weaknesses.

I was about to say the same thing, vex. But the problem with that is that his stamina kinda sucks. Otherwise, he's be a perfect candidate to a defensive midfielder spot, which will increase is defending skill while lowering his passing skill (which is only weak) and as ABC of tactics reminds you, any increase are in proportion with the level of the player's skill, as in a percent of the original skill. Say 10%, then an increase of 10% of is solid defending is better than a decrease of 10% of his passing...
