will be one and the same. It would be nice if the recent Superman movie went over much better.
Superman, Batman to unite on the big screen, Warner Bros. says - CNN.com (http://www.cnn.com/2013/07/20/showbiz/comic-con-superman-batman/index.html?hpt=hp_t3)
This summer's Superman blockbuster is getting a sequel -- and it's going to unite the Man of Steel with the Caped Crusader for the first time on the big screen.
Warner Bros. Pictures announced Saturday at Comic-Con that Superman will pair with his fellow Justice League hero Batman in the upcoming yet-to-be-named film, expected to begin production in 2014.
"Man of Steel" director Zack Snyder will direct the film, and current Superman Henry Cavill will star, Warner Bros. said. The new Batman has yet to be cast.
Snyder's reimagining of Superman in "Man of Steel" broke the record for the biggest June opening, taking in $125.1 million in its first weekend. It has since raked in a total of $630 million worldwide, Warner Bros. said.
"Superman and Batman together on the big screen is a dream come true for DC (Comics) fans everywhere," said Diane Nelson, president of DC Entertainment.
Snyder told Comic-Con fans he's excited to work with Cavill again and take the story to the next chapter.
"It's beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest superheroes in the world," he said.
Snyder strongly hinted that the heroes will be rivals in the movie.
CNN partner Entertainment Weekly reported that "Man of Steel" actor Harry Lennix took the stage with Snyder and read a line from Frank Miller's 1986 book, "The Dark Knight Returns," in which Batman wages battle with the man from Krypton.
"I want you to remember, Clark. In all the years to come. In all your most private moments. I want you to remember my hand at your throat. I want you to remember the one man who beat you," Lennix read from the book.
Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane also return for the new film, Warner Bros. said.
Christian Bale, who starred as Batman in three film installments of "The Dark Knight," told Entertainment Weekly this month that he wouldn't be starring in a fourth. "Dark Knight" director Christopher Nolan also said he wasn't opting for a fourth movie in the franchise, the magazine said.
Nolan will, however, have a hand in the upcoming Superman-Batman film -- he's serving as one of the executive producers, Warner Bros. said.
Warner Bros. and DC Comics, the publisher of "Superman" titles, are both units of Time Warner, CNN's parent company.

Agreed.
I can't picture who can best Bale as Batman and especially as Bruce Wayne...
They'll have to go a very distinctly different direction with Batman I think to make it not as comparable. Which is good, because the Batman you want in a Batman/Superman teamup is very different than what you want in a Batman-centered story, I think. I'm hoping they go that World's Finest sort of angle rather than the Frank Miller angle. That would be really bad I think.

I kinda wish they wouldn't go with a rival story. The Batman/Superman comics are actually really good (I think) and they show a really interesting interaction between the 2 iconic heroes.

I am not sure where all the Zack Snyder hate comes from.
I thought "Man of Steel" was decent. I loved Snyder's "Dawn of the Dead." I really liked "300" and "Watchmen" as well. I have never been able to watch all of "Sucker Punch", because it is so very, very horrible. It's a shit film. I never saw his animated owl movie.
So, even if we assume his animated owl movie sucks, 4 out of 6 aint bad.

Newb question: Why would Batman or Superman dislike one another? Aren't they all for the same kind of good?
I think it mostly has to do with their stark difference in personalities and sometimes they rub each other the wrong way even though they have mutual respect for each other. Superman gave Bruce kryptonite just in case since Superman knew Bruce would be the one person smart enough to stop him if need be.

I have a friend who has been a hardcore Superman comic guy for a long, long time, and he thought that Snyder just got the character completely wrong and hated it, and that the editing was terrible (he gave me very detailed examples that I will keep an eye out for next time). This is pretty funny, and also sums up why my mate thinks they got it wrong:

Newb question: Why would Batman or Superman dislike one another? Aren't they all for the same kind of good?
The normal scenario is that they work together, and that is what I hope they would depict in the story. However, it's typical in any "teamup" to have the heroes fight at first, so that's one reason they might. The ohter reason is pure fanservice -- people like X vs Y like "would superman beat batman?" or whatever, and so Superman and Batman is This is fueled by several instance sin teh comics where they've come to fight, particularly Dark Knight Returns, which they quoted in the conference. Batman's sort of the ultimate underdog, and so the idea of him taking on the golden boy and all his powers is a sort of fan favorite.
That said I sure hope they don't do it other than perhaps some sort of brief altercation. Focus on the friendship. If they make other movies they can build up to a fun faceoff down the line. but hollywood almost always blows their load too quick so I expect we'll get a stupid fight in this film.

It seems obvious to me that such a showdown becomes much more interesting after a movie or two of the two working together. You know they're friends, you know what they've been through, you know how well they know each other. And now because of (insert menace here which turns one of them bad) they have to face each other! Sometimes I wish I could make all Hollywood producers disappear.

Yeah the Facebook reactions seem to be mostly horror from my little corner of the social media world, but I loved Affleck as Daredevil. I also think he can't be much worse than Bale as Batman, who I didn't like at all in the role.
Overall, the contemporary Batman films are noted for odd and/or poor casting for the role, so at absolute worst, it's par for the course.

The thing with Affleck is not that he'll be terrible. I'm sure he'll be adequate. It's more that he's a safe, boring choice that is going to do nothing to elevate it beyond Zack Snyder's nonsense. If it was Affleck/Affleck, I could be okay with that, but Snyder/Affleck is just awful.

I don't think they're following that storyline exactly. But it sounded from the press that they're going wtih the idea of Batman as an established veteran crimefighter, so an older actor makes sense.
Which I am very much fine with if it means they're not going to give me another Batman origin as part of the movie. If they actually assume everyone knows who Batman is and just introduce a new version of him I will give Hollywood a slow clap. In this sense introducing him as part of a Superman movie may be a great idea because they focus won't be on "introducing" him.
I haven't seen much of anything with Affleck in it for years so i don't know if he can pull this off. I still think of him in Good Will Hunting in that suit saying "You're all suspect," which makes me think he can't. But I'm sure he's past that. I think he could make a great Bruce Wayne, he's charming and now a bit dignified, an older playboy is something he should be able to do. It's the Batman part I wonder about.
