So, what does that have to do with crowd noise? When the Chiefs get to Romo it will be because the offensive line is the weakest unit on the team.

go to a game in Seattle if you think crowd noise doesnt have an effect on a visiting offense. The Cowboys O-line is crappy already, giving them one more thing to think about wont help

Even with a silent snap count, when you've got 120-130 decibels ringing through your ears, it's disorienting. It's always funny to see lineman pop up early on their counts even on silent counts. It's even better when the color commentator is a former NFL lineman who laments, 'just look at the ball and that won't happen!' Easier said then done, especially when you're in Arrowhead facing Justin Houston and Tamba Hali on the ends. Communicating blitz pick-ups and audibles also become extremely difficult at best on a good day, leaving a QB unprotected or having a WR break the wrong way because he misread the audible.
Cowboys need to find a way to score first to quiet the crowd a bit. If the Chiefs score first, look out.

And I think MBBF just MIGHT be overstating it a bit with his claims of 120-130db. (I know, shocking, right?). The highest recorded peak level at Arrowhead was 116db, and considering each 6db gain is a doubling of the pressure, that is quite the overstatement.

Do you really have to ask that? It certainly had little to do with the home field advantage. In fact, most are shocked that it wasn't worse than that given what we've had in regards to a GM and coaching over the past five years.
Anyone who's been paying attention realizes that the front office, coaching and talent levels are all vastly improved over what we've had. With that said, ask any NFL player who's played at Arrowhead, even in the bad years. They'll tell you that it's one of the most difficult places to play in the NFL for all the reasons already listed. Lathum mentioned Seattle. That's the only place I've been to a NFL game that rivals the noise generated at Arrowhead.

FWIW, I can understand how surprised Cowboys fans could be regarding crowd noise. I'm sure many of them who are in attendance will be yelling at Chiefs fans to sit down and be quiet so they can see and hear the TV on the scoreboard. They may not even realize that you can actually look down and see the game being played on the field.
Your aunt and uncle will have a great time. Hopefully they're arriving early to tailgate.

Jets- PAts thursday night, I think the Jets keep it close, no Vereen or Amendola for Brady.I don't think any northeastern fan base that has enough of a vocal minority to support a WEEI/WFAN/whatever talk radio Philly has can be considered one of the most supportive in sports. Passionate, yes, informed, more than people give them credit for, supportive, no.
Jets are getting helped out with the short week - I'd wager on Amendola playing if he had the full week to get healthy. With Gronk and Vereen out and Dobson/Sudfeld hobbled, that means if the Jets blitz and lock off Edelman we'll be relying on Thompkins and Boyce for those hot read option routes that require so much timing and unspoken communication. Plus the Jets have upgraded from lolbad to cromulent at the QB position, so I'm definitely glad this one is in Foxboro. Weather forecast is hot and humid too, so we could see a 2nd consecutive Thursday night game delayed by Thunderstorms.

When you have whiteness approaching 100 on the CIE reflection scale, it can be very disorienting. You add in Brian Cushing and JJ Watt staring in at you from the other side of the line, the whiteness can be overpowering.

I don't think what Wilson said is that big of a deal. He is simply saying that other peoples thoughts about him are irrelevant because he is his own critic. The "no one wants me to succeed more than me" seems to support that. Of course it will get blown up because of social media, but really it is incredibly minor. If twitter were around back in the mid 90's, the Cowboys would have probably lost half their team when one of them tweeted about how much coke he had snorted before the big game.

When your team is terrible, you're not going to have nearly the same effect. There were a lot of games during that stretch where 30-40K was all that was there despite a sellout. It was somewhat embarrassing that they even mentioned it was a sellout. That's not an advantage at that point. Hence the reason Clark Hunt dumped the franchise on its head in the off-season.
There won't be an empty seat on Sunday and it's the home opener. Dallas will get the full Arrowhead experience.

Last year he had a very good group to work with.
After the draft and FA, the Patriots figured they would have Gronk, Hernandez, Edelman and Amendola. Then the kids could have been worked in slowly.
Instead, Gronk is still hurt, Hernandez is in prison and Amendola is hurt (the least surprising of the three)

I swear the Pats don't win because they are good but because their division is full of teams that find amazing ways to suck.
To be fair, I think the NFL should rotate who gets to be in the AFC East with the Bills and Jets.

announcing bitching has no idea what he's talking about. He was going out of bounds the whole time.
This. Talib did nothing wrong. He looked inside, saw nothing, and cut it back to the sideline to go out of bounds. He wasn't "dancing" along the sideline or whatever.

The Jets started it and deserved the ejections, but a Patriot absolutely threw a punch and should have joined the players kicked out of the game there.

He wasn't "dancing" along the sideline or whatever.announcing bitching has no idea what he's talking about. He was going out of bounds the whole time.Please. He should have immediately gone down or sprinted straight out of bounds, instead he did look end zone. Then after Hill ran by and he saw he had no easy path Talib pranced for 2 steps and did a pirouette. I argued it last week when it was random teams, and I was yelling it at Talib when he stopped going full speed - run out of bounds full speed and protect yourself from injury. The Jets started it and deserved the ejections, but a Patriot absolutely threw a punch and should have joined the players kicked out of the game there.Looked like Dennard slapped/punched #66 immediately and Michael Buchanon threw a punch at him during the scrum. Joe Vellano also kinda threw something late, but that looked more like a reactionary push than a punch. Whatever... since the NFL doesn't suspend anyone for these things, given the time situation you could have thrown out any 35 players on either side and it wouldn't matter past whatever fines the NFL doles out. When can we get Beli to admit that he fucked up by not resigning Welker? If people want to argue that he should have kept Welker over Amendola based off one (not entirely surprising) groin pull, fine (I disagree), but let's stop pretending like it was Welker vs. Dobson/Thompkins. If you think he fucked up by cutting Brandon Lloyd, I would've agreed with you until I read the recent comments by Lloyd where he claimed 4 teams had contacted him but he was neither physically or mentally ready to play football. And as much as Tom Brady was getting pissed - and there were some bad reads on option routes - he also threw multiple bad balls in that first half. I'm pretty much ignoring the 2nd half in that rain. So, instead of the 0-2 Pats, it's the 2-0 Pats. I hate them. :(Nothing I didn't predict in the Preseason thread 2 weeks ago, but hey, <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/W42iiCcFbxE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

When can we get Beli to admit that he fucked up by not resigning Welker?
They offered him roughly what the Broncos did (I know there are disputes about how much was guaranteed vs performance bonuses, but everyone agrees if he had played like the last couple of seasons he would have received the same money), but Welker thought he could get more and shopped himself around until the Patriots ran out of time and signed Amendola cheaper.
There was clearly something behind the scenes other than contract numbers and pay at work here.

True. But Beli is responsible for "behind the scenes" how he treats the players too. Maybe he should have been a little nicer to Welker.
I mean ultimately we don't know what it was - maybe it was Welker's fault or whatever. Maybe it all goes back to that stupid Rex Ryan foot thing...who the hell knows.

KICKER BEEF!:D
Sebastian Janikowski of Oakland Raiders refutes report, says he's a fan of Oakland Athletics - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9666591/sebastian-janikowski-oakland-raiders-refutes-report-says-fan-oakland-athletics)
ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski angrily took issue with a Florida Times Union report that said he annually roots against the Oakland Athletics.
According to the Times Union, Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee said that Janikowski told him he roots against the A's each year because the sooner their season wraps up, the quicker the dirt infield is gone from O.co Coliseum, which both Oakland teams call home. That way, according to the report, Janikowski said he can stop worrying about kicking on slippery dirt. One issue, though: Janikowski said he never told Scobee such a thing.
And when he saw the story?
"I was pissed off," said Janikowski, who rarely speaks to reporters but was waiting in the middle of the Raiders locker room at the start of the media access period Thursday. "That's why I'm talking to you guys. I wanted to get that straight."
The Raiders are the lone team in the NFL to share a stadium with a major league baseball club, and until the A's season concludes, they must endure playing with dirt in the middle of O.co Coliseum. In fact, the Raiders' home game against the San Diego Chargers on Oct. 6 might be switched to Dec. 22, with Oakland traveling to play the Chargers earlier if the A's are hosting a playoff game too close to that date.
A decision has to be made within two weeks of Oct. 6, according to a team official.
But as far as Janikowski cheering the A's demise?
"Stupid," Janikowski said. "Ridiculous. I root for the A's. We've got an advantage here. I root for the A's. Don't get me wrong; I go to the games. But whatever (Scobee) says, it just blows my mind."
Then, a conversation with Scobee never happened?
"No, didn't happen," Janikowski said. "Hell no. Just wanted to let you know.
"When Jason (Giambi) was with the A's, I was going to games. Now, with two kids, not so much. But they make the postseason? I'm in. I've kicked 14 years on it (the dirt). It really doesn't bother me."
Scobee, meanwhile, has been practicing on a baseball infield in Jacksonville in anticipation of the team's game Sunday at Oakland, which will be playing its home opener. And that's just fine with the Raiders' first-round pick in 2000 and their all-time leading scorer. It's a mind game for visitors. Besides, Janikowski set an NFL record for longest overtime field goal -- on the dirt -- to beat Brett Favre and the New York Jets with a 57-yarder on Oct. 19, 2008.
"I think it's an advantage for us," Janikowski said." Guys come in and they think about it so much: 'Do I have to plant my foot differently? Or whatever. I'm not going to tell them what to do."
Janikowski, though, said he's not going to talk to Scobee on Sunday, either.

Well unfortunately Suh was not suspended, so I expect Carson Palmer to be sacked at least five times and have to leave the game due to an injury.
I think your beloved Cards should be okay this Sunday. The Lions have traditionally played very poorly on the West Coast (that's even in Lions terms, which means they've pretty much played horrendously). They haven't won in Arizona since 1993.
Even last year, late in the year, when the wheels had already flown off the Cardinals' wagon, the Cardinals pounded the Lions 38-10 behind the potent offensive attack of Ryan Lindley and Beanie Wells (helped, in large part, by Stafford's 3 picks and a Stefan Logan fumble).

NFL wants to flag more players for using profanity in games - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9677361/nfl-wants-flag-more-players-using-profanity-games)
Referee Jeff Triplette's crew, which worked the Seahawks-Panthers game last week, repeatedly warned players about profanities directed at each other and even flagged the Seattle's K.J. Wright for mouthing a loud obscenity at a Carolina player. Technically, it was a taunting penalty, but the NFL Competition Committee recommended emphasis on such verbal abuse.
League VP of officiating Dean Blandino conceded Saturday to ESPN that officials want to curtail "actions [verbal or otherwise] directed at an opponent."
Blandino said profanity by itself is not prohibited, but where verbal actions are directed at an opponent, it's usually profane.
In light of the many scuffles that surfaced in Week 1 and this past Thursday night between the New England Patriots and New York Jets, more enforcement is anticipated.

Then, he descended into average and then complete sucktitude. Now I don't even have to respect him, I just wait for him to fold after he looks good for two quarters. If I ever had a son, Rivers would be the guy I would teach my kid NOT to emulate in body language. (Cutler would be another one)
So Vick overthrows Jackson like four time when he doesn't have anyone within 10 yards of him and then hits him in stride when the pass had to be perfect. Go figure. This Eagles offense is unreal. They've left at least 21 points on the field today.

Kansas City getting a taste of Reid's clock management skills, has blown two TO's in the second half only up by 4 with Dallas driving. And Jamaal Charles running OOB. Gets bailed out by a questionable PI call on Dallas. Crowd noise must have made the ref throw that.
AFC East now 4-0 outside the division. BEST DIVISION IN FOOTBALL!!!!

Guess the answer to how long Vick would hold up has been answered. No way he gets through 16.
It's a great offense for him. Even if he and McCoy hold up, the bigger question is whether a coach that gives 100% to his offense and doesn't have great talent on defense can win in the NFL.
If Philly wins 12 games and scores 500 points, the NFL will look very different next year.

Man, was amazing to see the difference in the Cowboys when the Chiefs got in front and started double teaming Bryant. Their offense went from good to abysmal in a huge hurry. Romo doesn't know where to go if you put two players on Bryant.
Also funny to hear all the comments on the telecast given the discussion earlier in the week:
"Chiefs crowd is playing a major factor in the game." - Tim Ryan
"Frenzied crowd atmosphere here in KC" - Chris Myers
"I wish I could have heard what you said, but I'm sure it was exciting." - Chris Myers
"We pumped the noise into our practice facility specifically to prepare for this atmosphere." - Jason Garrett
"My last trip to Arrowhead didn't end well. It was crazy." - Alex Smith
"Sorry, we weren't able to hear you during that highlight." - Chris Myers

Bears did just about everything they could to give that game to the Vikings, but still got the win.
- special teams TD
- defensive TD
- red zone interception to kill another drive
- 4th quarter fumble at midfield
- risk a timeout on challenge to force Peterson can pick up 4th and 1/12 inch.
I'm sure I'm missing some, but was fun to see (well, 1st half follow along at nfl.com due to technical difficulties) Bears getting points at the end of each half. Offense isn't exactly clicking on all cylinders, but seems much better conceived than last couple of seasons where plays came in late and Marshall was target for 40% of all passes.

Cheap shot by the Broncos, that shouldn't have been illegal contact, that should have been a personal foul. I think it was offensive PI on the Giants player that went uncalled on the same play.

So I guess Cruz is good enough where he can be running close to full speed, have the ball thrown 10 yards behind him and low, and somehow stop, dive backwards 10 yards and catch the ball off the turf in one motion taking under 1/3 of a second.
The ref can call holding there, they absolutely cannot call PI there unless they are trying to change the rules of the game.

9 early games, 6 QB's over 200 yards at halftime.
Rodgers
Rivers
Vick
Ryan
Tannehil
Luck
The early games do not include either Manning, Wilson, Kaepernick, Stafford, or Brees.
400 yards is the new 300 yards.
And now Peyton with exactly 200 at halftime.

This is getting to be pretty comical. If a Bronco defender breathes on a Giant WR or OL it's a flag and a first down.
As I type that, another joke of a flag comes in. At this point, I'm wondering how much money the Giants gave the refs. That was not PI. It simply wasn't. Simply horrible.

Honestly, I don't mind some of the calls. the Carter one where he wasn't looking back was a PI. The last couple were just comical. I'm sure Jim Harbaugh wishes he had the ref who threw the flag in the end zone in last years Super Bowl. It not only would have been PI, it would have been a personal foul and an ejection if this guy stayed consistent.

In all fairness, one they couldn't have refused to call even if they wanted to. The hands to the face one I'm happy about.
As for the rest, I don't give a crap if the Broncos get called for fouls they commit. I even said earlier in the thread one of them should have received a personal foul penalty instead of a five yard illegal use of the hands penalty.
If you truly think the PI call in the end zone (and a couple of the other calls) in the Giants favor have been correct, we'll just agree to disagree, ok?

This is the stuff I hate. I think this was a catch, but the strict letter of the law can say otherwise. I think he took two steps and dove off the left foot, but I would have a difficult time arguing anyone who said that wasn't the case.
Glad it stood. This is where Von Miller is missed so badly. Two score lead late, we know the Giants are passing it and Von isn't there to supply a pass rush. This thing isn't over yet, despite Denver being dominant in this one.
If Eli makes a mistake, Denver needs to grab it and not assume it's ok if they don't.

The best thing about the Bears season thus far is through 2 games, both against outstanding defensive lines, the bears have allowed a total of 1 sack and haven't done anything special to protect the QB.
It's amazing what some solid blocking and an offense that doesn't ask for the QB to hold the ball for 4 seconds because the routes are being run so far down the field does for a team.
