Well, unconfirmed report, actually.
"New Haven Police have received an anonymous call from a phone booth in the 300 block of Columbus Avenue (between Howard Avenue and Hallock Street) reporting a person on the Yale Campus with a gun. There have been NO confirmations or sightings of this person. Yale and New Haven Police are in the area. If you have information, please call 911 immediately. The Yale Police Department advises those on campus to remain in their current location until there is additional information."

Hope it's nothing and everybody is safe.
Must admit I saw the thread title and thought that somebody had just finished building a shelter for the homeless or something similar and was announcing its opening.

Yeah hopefully this ends quickly and without issue.
The man made the call from a pay phone on the low-300 block of Columbus Avenue around 9:30 a.m. to report that his roommate was headed to the central campus area in order to shoot up the area, Hartman said. The caller said his roommate had a long gun, according to police spokesman Officer David Hartman. The caller did not identify himself as a Yale student.
I found this coming from a pay phone a little strange though. There's always the chance that someone doesn't have a cell phone but this wouldn't be the case where you're trying to make an anonymous tip (if you've identified the person as your roommate, you can be tracked down).

Yale Alert- November 25- 1:45 pm- Out of an abundance of caution, Police will be doing a room to room search starting with the residential college areas. When they knock on your door, a Yale Police Officer will slip their Yale ID under the door. Please cooperate. In some cases, Police may use keys, but they will identify themselves. Shelter in Place continues.

I guess it is a good thing that most students aren't on campus this week.

Hopefully they'll resolve this and be able to lift the shelter in place order today. My wife is also a Yale employee, and I hope she'll be able to drive home at a reasonable hour today.
Stay safe (and warm), Kodos.

Starting to wonder if the sightings of the gunman were actually people seeing law enforcement officers.

Yeah, I guess we can leave. Although the bosses have not swung by to tell us to leave, so I'm still here.

Anybody in America can shut down part of a city and cause helicopters to fly around just by placing a phone call. It's surprising it doesn't happen more often.

Thankfully most of us are sane and understand the potential consequences of such a prank but it is a catch 22 of the modern age. They can't not respond to something like this but from a macro standpoint look at what happened to the entire campus and surrounding areas of Yale today and for a micro look at just Kodos. Crazy. There really is no solution. There is no doubt that the CNN cameras and 24-7 news coverage probably lead to more shootings and threats but there is no way to not cover them either. There really isn't an answer.

Recently near the Wisconsin campus, a person returning from hunting and walking back to his apartment with his gun caused a shutdown of that area.
