And just 10 miles away from the school shooting at Columbine in 1999. Suspect is dead, possibly self-inflicted, only two injured thankfully right now, which is two too many of course.

3 miles from my house. Ugh. At least the gunman seems to be the only casualty.

When it happens in suburbia, it's a school shooting. If it happens in the inner-city it's "just a murder."

Pretty sure murder and school shooting are interchangeable. End result is the same and it is disgusting any way you look at it.

Which is my point. Kids are killing kids every day at school but when it happens in the suburbs, all of a sudden it's national news and plastered everywhere.

{scratches head} Is there a raft of on-school property murders that I've been missing somewhere? Beatdowns, stabbings, sexual assaults ... yeah, I'm familiar with those on a fairly regular basis here in the exurbs, much less in the big ol' city.

Incidents with multiple shooting victims on school property ... gosh, there must be one hell of a global conspiracy to keep us from hearing about those.

Pretty sure this is mostly because most inner-city schools don't really have "campuses" - they tend to just be buildings that open onto the street. So any shooting there that's not actually in the building wouldn't be a "school shooting."

Competitive debater, proponent of Keynesian economic theory and gay rights, mocked the GOP on social media, aspired to the Air Force Academy. Described by a classmate as "a socialist".

Honestly, the pictures being painted of him by various classmates are more enigmatic than enlightening so far. At least to me.

And, more honestly, on the surface he could be any of dozens of kids I've known in recent years.

I didn't want to start a whole new thread for this, but a student at my son's high school was arrested last night for threatening to shoot up the school. Apparently, he created a fake twitter account using the name of a former student who had recently graduated. Under that account he made the treats to shoot up the school. What the goal was here is unclear...was he just trying to get the other kid in trouble, create an alabi/suspect following an actual shooting, or something else. Thankfully, he was arrested before we had to find out the hard way.

I am not too far from you so was curious which high school so looked up the story, seemed like a hoax, but kids should know better this day and age of joking about that.

Not sure how I missed this when it happened...I used to work at the Burger King right across the street from that school back when I was in high school.

Yeah, everyone who knew the kid said he was not someone they would have expected this from, and it appears he was joking around with the person he made the twitter account to imitate, but you're right...got to know better in today's day and time.
