I figure we can start a new thread, since the last post in the prior thread was on 12/31.
Did anyone else watch The Assets on ABC? The critics have seemed to go out of their way to say it's not horrible, but I just don't see it. The acting was atrocious, the sets felt thrown together, and the editing was just odd. It didn't feel like scenes had any natural flow or that the characters were real people. I started watching Orphan Black today, and in comparison The Assets just seemed amateurish.
I was hoping this would tide me over until The Americans came back, but I don't see that happening.

I watched the first episode-I went in "blind"-had not seen previews just knew it was about the CIA and espionage. Did not realize it was based on real events. I thought it was okay, but won't be watching future episodes. Acting wasn't bad-other than perhaps the advisor? mentor? to the lead female character. Not great acting either.
I think they tried to show they were real people especially with the female lead-the scenes with her family where she had to keep them separate from her work life-overhearing her daughter on the phone about how terrible a mother she was, etc. It was the first hours of a short run series so I'm not sure we'll see much attempt beyond the female lead to show them as "real people"-viewers will be more interested in the traitor and espionage scenes anyway.
It was pretty interesting see how far we've come technologically since the 80's when this show is set in-we'd be doing things far far differently today in the same situation with all the technology available for intelligence agencies to use.

If you're looking for new shows, idk, I'm probably just a sucker for the genre, but Michael Bay is producing a "prequel" series to Treasure Island. It should be... interesting at least. Premieres on Starz on the 25th. There's also a new SyFy show called Helix coming the 10th getting pretty favorable reviews.

Yeah - Black Sailz looks like it could be fun. If it's "Spartacus-style Pirates" I'll enjoy it. Anything more is total gravy AFAIC.
Helix is something they've been promoting the hell out of - looking forward to seeing if it holds up to their hype.

I've been watching "Betas", an exclusive on Amazon (free to those that have Amazon Prime). It's about a group of people trying to make a social app start up. Has all the usual geek cliches, but I'm enjoying it so far for what it is.
I tried watching Alpha House, but I turned it off half way through the first episode.
Also through Amazon Prime, I've been watching a lot of Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. I started watching his show on CNN (Parts Unknown), so I've been watching No Reservations (which was for the Travel Channel) on Amazon. Really great shows (both shows are exactly the same, mostly travel + food).
Really looking forward to the second season of House of Cards (Feb 14th, that weekend is bookmarked for some binge watching).

Last night CNN ran a documentary called Sole Survivor. You may have seen the ads for it, and it'll run one more time before it eventually moves to Netflix.
I'm watching it right now and it's very emotional for me. One of the stories contained is the Comair crash in Lexington and the story of the surviving first officer. I wasn't working the morning of the crash, but I was a first officer at Comair at the time, but not on that particular plane, and although I didn't know either pilot personally I had flown with the flight attendant. I had flown in and out of LEX prior to and after the crash. I knew some of what they were up against that morning.
The crash was very personal for all of us. It wasn't a huge, huge company, and there were a lot of ancillary issues to the industry that were going on at the time too. We tried to support the families of the crews as much as we could, but what can you really do?
Anyway, if you find yourself watching this understand how close to home it hits for me.

Seeing Boyd and Wynn Duffy together multiple times in that preview has me really excited.
Off to a great start. They keep taking second bananas from second tier comedies and turning them into great villains. Jere Burns as Wynn Duffy (and on Burn Notice, too) is great. Last year I had my doubts about Mike O'Malley, but he was outstanding as Nick Augustine. So I have high hopes for Dave Foley and Will Sasso as Canadian drug dealers.
Justified seems written by Neal Stephenson in a good way: lots of details that are very right. This episode had the Jamaican kid (yet another second banana from a one and done comedy) denying he was gator poaching. Then as Raylon leaves, a gator leaps up to grab the bait and hangs there. Also Raylon shooting Dewey's plastic pool.

Think this from an EW article, is a pretty good guess as to where the series is going.
Right now seems like a perfect time to come up with a Ridiculously Early Helix Theory. Let’s run down what we know:
-When the virus takes over a person/monkey/mouse, it turns the carrier into a superhuman/monkey/mouse, with one apparent purpose: Pass the virus along to another being via mouth-to-mouth regurgitation.
-Carriers of the virus have spasming throats, almost as if some mysterious thing is inside of there.
-Young and ridiculously overqualified doctor Sarah Jordan announces that it’s a super-small virus, so it might be/is probably very ancient.
-Major Balleseros is sending mysterious messages via satellite. He also tells Hatake: “The people you and I work for aren’t happy, and now I have to clean up your mess.” He also kills a scientist who is trying to escape. Props to Mark Ghanime, who in the first two hours of the show lies to everyone and kills somebody and really for all we know is the most evil person, and still turns his character into the most charming person on the show.
-There’s a White Room somewhere.
-Hatake has an album filled with pictures of Julia.
-Hatake’s eyes look weird.
Given all of that, here’s my theory. The virus isn’t just an ancient disease. It’s actually an ancient species, molecule-sized living beings who used to dominate the world. Millions of years ago, the combination of continental drift and the whole meteor-that-killed-the-dinosaurs thing banished them deep beneath the surface of the Arctic ice. This species functions as a collective — that’s why one infected scientist keeps referring to herself as “we” — and although they have no real physical form, they can take over other physical forms and symbiotically supercharge them.
Having discovered this virus, Arctic Biosystems is attempting to weaponize it for those mysterious people that Balleseros and Hatake work for. Let’s say, for the sake of argument and transgressive sci-fi pulpiness, that it actually is the American Government, working to develop biological weapons. (Drones are so 2013.) Arctic Biosystems performed their experiments in some deep subterranean corner of their research facility, called the White Room. Unbeknownst to anyone, however, Hatake has been infected by a different virus: A kind of counter-agent, a different molecule-species from millions of years ago, the yin to the evil virus’ yang. (This is why Hatake’s eyes are pale, while the bad virus is black.) We’re going to think he’s a bad guy for like half the season, but his ultimate end goal is to defeat the bad virus. Yes, he was introduced happily describing the viral infection as “progress,” but that was just theater, because his security enforcer has already been infected with the bad virus. For whatever reason — something to do with her father, briefly mentioned? — Julia is the key to Hatake’s plan.
So, in conclusion, Helix is about molecular angels fighting molecular devils.

Pretty much what I thought-good actors cast-especially John Billingsley and Rosalind Chao (Chinese Intelligence Chief) in a more serious role for them. The twist at the end with the Chinese woman was nice. I suspect though that the Chinese govt won't allow the show to be seen there :) I did think it was way to early to reveal the truth about the lead character's wife though-would have liked to play the search for the truth play out a bit more.

The first episode of "True Detective" was great.
I feel like there have been quite a few gruesome "cops on the trail of a serial killer" shows the last couple of years - quite a few indeed - (in fact, some aspects of the murders in the show feel like they were taken directly out of the first season of "Hannibal") but I enjoyed it.
Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey did not disappoint.

I watched "Helix" last night.
I will keep with it for a while, but I wasn't that impressed overall.
There was just too much stupidity by people who are supposed to be professional, very, very smart PHD-level professionals:
For example:
1. The sassy blonde very scientist. She finds out that they are lying about having monkeys. She heads down to where they used to keep the monkeys and finds it all torn to shit. She then sees a plainly crazy-ass looking monkey. Does she proceed with caution? Does she report back? Does she set up a quarantine? No. She approaches it - face first - cooing and saying "Come here little guy..."
After the crazy-ass monkey attacks her and is killed, she decides to set up shop and do a quick autopsy of this crazy ass monkey in the dim, dark monkey chamber.
Does she report back to her team to tell them what happened? Do they report back to her about the fact that the dude's crazy-ass infected brother is on the loose? Nope. Despite all of this weird, potentially lethal shit going on, they never communicate until she just shows back up at the main area, infected woman in tow.
2. There has to be a better way of dealing with the infected dude in the air ducts than sending one or two people up there alone. They keep talking about "security teams." Use them.
3. The crazy infected guy is still on the loose. He has already attacked and infected 3-5 people. What precautions do they take? None really. They are all off by themselves. The one woman decides to take a shower - by herself - because, hey, it's not like that crazy infected guy is on the loose or anything.
4. Those three infected doctors take the one young PHD woman hostage, some how they give that up when the one dude takes off his suit. Then, everyone seems to think that everything's cool because of that one act, until, of course, the infected doctors strike again.
I have no issue with the infection. It is potentially very interesting. They just seem to be creating tension by making people who are supposed to be highly trained and very smart acting very stupid. I had similar issues with "Prometheus."

This is true. I am comfortable with it up to a point. I guess in "Helix" it just seemed more egregious as a result of how bonehead the actions were, the threat level and how trained/educated/professional these people are supposed to be.

I strongly agree with #1 and #3. I couldn't believe it when after being told there were no monkeys on the base, finding that there was, and then taking no precautions before going to find them. No clean suits, nothing. I mean they already lied about the monkeys and having total access to the base, so hey maybe they and the lab you found them in was actually infected and maybe you should check for that before you do anything else?
#3 Yeah I agree-after the lead doctor told them to buddy up before going anywhere, there was the doctor in the shower alone for the gratuitious nudity shot, then of course she was attacked.
#2 I don't have as much problem with-there are only 100+ people at the base, a small number seem to be security people. So they don't have a big team I'm guessing. But they are going to run in problems in general as the show goes on-something Haven has run into in its latest season-there are only so many people you can kill off-because there are just not that many people there-deaths should not be frequent especially amongst the remaining security people. If that knockout gas didn't actually work, they are pretty much defenseless too it sounds like. Need to find something that works quickly or they as good as dead I think.
#4-the lead doctors at the time didn't know the scope of the infection in those three infected-and had told the young woman doctor a few times they didn't like she had her suit on-so I thought it was conceivable they thought all was relatively calm again when the lead doctor took off his suit to gain their trust. There should have been more security there after that though I think.

I don't think that I like the artistic choice to just generically set it in the 80s, where stuff like the Phillies losing the series is cut with stuff that happened several years later. I'd prefer continuity if at all possible.
My fear is that once Adam ages, the show will just lose a lot of it's appeal as he becomes awkward looking. They should have attempted to get as many episodes in the can before he goes through puberty. Maybe he'll age gracefully or maybe they'll just re-cast the lead. Hard to say.

FWIW, the latest there says
The Goldbergs seems to have stabilized in the survival range. Given that ABC has renewed at least one freshman comedy every year since the 06/07 season, despite most of those renewals being mistakes (e.g. Better Off Ted), the numbers are solid enough that I think ABC continues the trend, and I’ve moved it to “Renewal Predicted”.
While The Trophy Wife (also mentioned in this same discussion recently) is listed as "Cancellation Predicted"

Trophy Wife is owned by ABC, which is going to at least make it slighter than it should possibility for a surprise renewal. I actually prefer it to the Goldbergs and i think Trophy Wife could become a hit with some retooling and a better time slot.

It's a bit of a tough read, since the numbers were actually up from the previous season finale.
My suspicion is that oversaturation in the retail space during the holidays did more damage than any of the "controversy", even some of the most diehard fans of the show were getting a bit weary from the Walmart onslaught.

That annoyed me at first -- Barry idolizing Darryl Dawkins, when he was off the Sixers by '82?? A reference to Coctail from '88, in the same ep where they cover DeLorean going to jail? I'm beginning to like that there really is no timeline, as opposed to other flashback shows. I think it might free them up to do more. As long as they are a little careful about mixing references.
Agreed on the mom, who is not only funny but...well, there is something about 80s MILF that I kinda like. Regarding Adam, it's funny - it seems like the eps I've seen focus on Barry as much as anything.

I always wonder what the shows that don't make it are like. I expect them to be shit, but then I saw the Susan 323(the Silverman one) pilot and it was way better than the shit NBC puts on. There was a Carolla animated pilot that was out there and it got passed over for that Allen Gregory show and Napoleon Dynamite. It's baffling.

What they ought to do - and I'd think it'll happen at some point sooner rather than later, is stream all the pilots on Hulu over the course of say...two weeks, track the viewing of them (how many people, how long, etc) and then greenlight the ones that people actually watch. Or fuck - let the viewing public vote and decide.
It wouldn't completely solve the problem, because pilots are not always a great representation of how a show will evolve, but it would solve some of the obvious "one and done" stinkers.

There's been a shift into straight to series orders this year with many shows bypassing the traditional pilot process. I would hope the networks will now look to eliminate the current series order sizes and do even more limited length series. Fox seems to have figured this out.

Here's a quickie thumbnail (http://www.marketingpilgrim.com/2013/09/51-percent-of-americans-watch-streaming-video-every-week.html) of what I meant above
This is for ANY streaming video of any kind, never mind whether that's YT or FB or Hulu
Age makes a huge difference when you look at the numbers for streaming video. Not surprisingly, Generation Y (13 to 33) lead the pack with 62 percent watching at least weekly. Generation X (34 to 47) is 46 percent and it drops to 30 percent for Baby Boomers.
Would work great if your show is going on Disney/Nick/MTV ... a lot less useful if you're CBS.
RainMaker
01-20-2014, 10:34 PM
It's a bit of a tough read, since the numbers were actually up from the previous season finale.
My suspicion is that oversaturation in the retail space during the holidays did more damage than any of the "controversy", even some of the most diehard fans of the show were getting a bit weary from the Walmart onslaught.
I think it's just the natural cycle of a reality TV show. They all seem to only have a few years of being on top before they start a decline. That's why I've always felt they were smart for whoring out their name to so many products. Strike while the iron is hot.
They've still got years left and 8 million is a solid number, but it's just inevitable that another show will come along and grab the country's attention for a few years and start the cycle all over again.

That's the thing though, the figures I cited showed how few people that make up a lion's share of audience for many networks watch ANY streaming video on ANY vehicle. (i.e. I stopped singling out Hulu)
And those numbers are the maximum possible, which would include those who only watch video of their new nephew being cute on Facebook. The number who ever watch something longer form is going to be considerably smaller.
I'm trying to think if I've ever sat through any TV show beyond clip length online, off hand I can't think of one.

how big was that DD wal mart deal? they had so much shit for sale that it was pretty much ludicrous.
The show will be fine, also. They'll keep making it until the profits dry up and at that point people will have moved onto something else. I read some article about how it was "only" at like 3.9m in the key demo, and I was thinking that it was basically 2X the numbers that most network shows draw there, and 3X the numbers of stuff like Parks and Rec or Michael J Fox(just using those two as examples). Hell, 3.9m viewers in the demo is more than New Girl routinely draws overall IIRC.

If you got all the way through season 1 and didn't like it then it might just not be for you, as I think the second half of season 1 is a decent representation of what the show is throughout. That said, most people consider season 2 to be the strongest season, and some new characters are introduced that many people really really like. In that case my recommendation to give it another try is much, much stronger. The first 4'ish episodes were almost completely "case of the week" type stories, and while there are definitely case of the week stories scattered throughout the series, there are many episodes that only deal with main plotlines and the show becomes much, much more serialized. Since you aren't too far past that shaky opening set of episodes then I think there's a much better chance you'll enjoy it.
Goggins and Olyphant are great together and you'll get a lot of that scattered throughout the series, and if you're not quite sold on Boyd Crowder (shane/goggins) just yet, he does go through some changes, in a good way IMO, and a way that fits the show.

"The Cosby Show" has been off the air for over twenty years, but Bill Cosby is ready for his return to NBC. The comedian, now 76 years old, has signed with the network to develop a half hour comedy, which he will star in.
According to Deadline, Cosby is working on the project with producer Tom Werner. The two previously worked together on "The Cosby Show," as well as CBS' "Cosby," which ran four seasons.
The new sitcom will show Cosby as the head of a multi-generational family, imparting his views on marriage and parenting along the way. Werner and Cosby are currently searching for writers to work on the project.
Cosby made his return to TV in November with a Comedy Central stand-up special, his first in 30 years.

Looking forward to the NBC one, but I imagine it'll suffer the same fate as Andre Braugher's series. Too high production costs and probably too niche in terms of viewership for their audience.

Too high production costs and probably too niche in terms of viewership for their audience. The GoT comparison is because the guy who directed the pilot was the guy who directed the Blackwater episode, so a lot of people were expecting a more lavish pilot.
The Last Resort comparison makes some sense, because both shows suffer due to have to invent reasons to keep characters on land because filming on the ocean is too expensive, but the Last Resort pilot was much better and felt bigger imo - if anything the problem was that later episodes didn't live up to that level of action, tension and production value (as well as the question of where it could really have gone after one season - should have just been an extended mini-series.)

Ultimately the show really wasn't about much of anything. The premise was just so New York and that apartment was probably 3m+ or so. I am not a huge fan - I think there's a lot of lazy writing which is a huge pet peeve of mine - but it's one of a few shows that we all watch as a family. I definitely would have stopped a while back if not for that reason. Well, Skye certainly doesn't hurt the cause either. Damn, that's a beautiful woman.
that being said, the most recent one - the train one - was one of the better episodes this year

Sadly, Friday night is a death slot for television. I was a bit surprised and disappointed last week when I went to set my DVR and found it was moved from Thursday to Friday.
I'm glad we got another season, but the signs were clear...
Supposedly the risk on production is pretty low. I think NBC basically spends almost 0 on it.

I'm still worried that Arrow will try to kill Sara and make Laurel Black Canary instead of just keeping Sara as it and getting rid of the actress who plays Laurel but they've been phenomenal at using 2nd-tier villains and bringing in actors like Michael Jai White and T-Bone to play them.
Btw, I think AoS kind of messed up their "reveal" too which I presume is that Skye is a different race. Should've shown Coulson seeing that the serum was alien before revealing that Skye reacted favorably to it imo.

Anna Farris and Allison Janey are learning to play off each other pretty well and both of them have great timing. Farris is very good at using facial expressions with her lines to make them funnier. Thanks. And I lied. I remember watching the very first episode.Like most shows it does take some time to find its strengths and focus less on its weaknesses (which is why it's a little unfair to compare to the beginning of S1 of AoS). In Arrow's case, that's any drama involving either Laurel or Thea, which haven't been completely phased out (it is a CW show after all*) but have been marginalized some. Just like AoS will never ditch the model-looking Skye and Ward like many want, but can head off the ire directed at them if they're less of a focus and they connect their plots of the week to a larger Marvel Universe instead of feeling like a bottle episode on the plane (and AoS does seem to be bringing in more of the wider world and hinting at a break out from the icebox by the end of the season.)
* - One small downside to watching on Netflix is you miss the promos for all the other CW shows. They're all so unbelievably terrible.

I enjoyed the latest episode of AoS. Very tense and haunting when they finally reached the location of Coulson's "resurrection" and what he found there, and what that likely means about Skye. That information web that Fitz/Simmons used was pretty cool too. Next week's episode sadly does not look as interesting from the previews, we shall see though.

I am really considering giving Arrow a try. As random as it sounds "Deadshot" has always been my favorite D.C. character - villain or otherwise. I have every issue of the original "Suicide Squad", as well as the 2nd version, all of the "Secret Six", the old "Deadshot" mini-series (which was fantastic), the newer one (which was not) and other various comics.

Just a befuddling pick up of The Mindy Project. I believe in her talent and watch the show, but it remains a real ClusterF. I'm surprised that Anders Holm story line didn't destroy the show. Rapper preacher turned DJ. It was dreadful. Dunno what the contract was with the Duplass bros but Mark was criminally underused and we keep getting shoveled that British doctor that sucks and way too much ike Barenholz(Morgan).
I guess it means all the pilots/shows fox has in the pipeline are iffy? Maybe they chuck Mindy on Friday next year. New Girl and B99 struggle to stay relevant as it is.
Also fox renewed The Following. I'm glad I have enough self esteem to stop watching. I saw 1.5 episodes until they cast that shitty kid from Dexter s8(Zach Hamilton I think was his name) and he also got to ruin season 3 of Homeland as Dana's shitty boyfriend. I think that's why it's most shocking. Parts of it work well but it needs a complete razing. I also wish they would promote how Mindy is a quality doctor more. She's written as such a ditz that it's hard to believe she is competent. IMO one of the best episode was when she interacted with the HS kids. I would consider moving her to a teaching hospital so she can play off of younger actors.

I'm intrigued by the premise of a new show on the CW tonight called The 100. A nuclear war has devastated Earth leaving its survivors living in space. Nearly a 100 years after the war, resources are dwindling so the leaders decide to send some of the most expendable to Earth to see if it can be repopulated and to free up resources for the more "deserving". This being the CW of course the expendable are juvenile delinquents and young political criminals. Being on the CW, I have my doubts about how long it will last, but worth checking out the first couple episodes I guess:

I'm down to four broadcast network shows, but this is one of them. Amazing that they could keep that secret for an entire year.
It is turning into a one-trick pony show, though (magic investigators always getting people to talk at just the right moment). I will definitely use the final episodes of this season to determine whether I'll tune in next season. It's never good when the show-runners are openly laughing at the viewers, like with the Bogdanovich cameo. And don't get me started on the NSA subplot.

for whatever reason this show's writing just "clicks" for me-the actors seem to have a great rapport with each other and know their characters inside and out. Even the guest stars mostly seem to be perfect choices. Having said that the NSA subplot is the weakest part of the show-not sure why they went there. Love the actor who's investigating the voting box scandal.
Have to wait and see how much that rapport is disrupted now. The show's been on a while now, so it probably needed a spark like this to give it new life.

I love Hannibal but the constant "Hannibal dunking on everyone" montage has gotta go. Even if he's in a mental hospital I feel like Graham telling the fake Julie Chen chick to check out his apartment is enough to get the FBI to seek a warrant. Maybe Hannibal cleaned out everything but they would have visited him. Also nobody has access to that much lexan. I was talking to someone else and wondered if the audience was actually hamstrung by out knowledge of the Hannibal character. Finally jack Crawford is fn horrible at his job and is may be qualified enough to take the Sargent's exam at Miami Metro but wouldn't still have a job with the FBI

Find myself wanting to fast-forward through all her scenes unless Boyd or Raylan are visiting her.[/QUOTE]

The Ava storyline is the biggest mis-step justified has made in their entire run I think. The Crowe's as the bad guys for the season isn't really working that well for me either. Still fun to watch, but I definitely feel like this season doesn't quite hold up to the last 3 in a row which were all great. I'm sure they'll knock the final season out of the park still, so its all good.

Agreed, not bad by any means, but few great moments. The resolution of the '21 foot rule' was up to past standards, however the rest of it is simply good, not great.
None of the female characters has put in a full shift so far, and Boyd has not been around enough, too. Having the characters run to Limehouse, or even Constable Bob, would thicken the plots for the final episode.

I, for one, can do without another Limehouse visit.
Haven't loved this season either. I like Michael Rappaport, but he just hasn't clicked for me. The drug stuff has been incredibly convoluted, the prison stuff has been lame, the conflict between Art and Raylon never really materialized into anything all that interesting and that mopey kid drives me up the wall. Many great individual moments as always, but the overall story has been kind of blah.

Well Justified seems to be on an odd-season decent/even-season fantastic pattern so hopefully it will go out with a bang.
Probably my least favorite season so far. It just hasn't gone anywhere interesting or worthwhile.

I thought Dickie Bennett was dead, but there he was last week in jail. Where we left him. Another character I'd like to see make a comeback, but alas, I doubt it.

Just read Graham Yost's AMA on Reddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/21xrh4/i_am_graham_yost_showrunner_of_justified_and_you/) - he seemed to indicate we haven't seen the last of many characters (Dickie explicitly)
Characters he says it would strange if we didn't see again: Dickie, Limehouse, Winona, Bob
Also hints that Quarles isn't dead.

Probably my least favorite season so far. It just hasn't gone anywhere interesting or worthwhile.Idk, I liked 2, 3 and 4, and even the end of season 1 once they got past the procedural feel. I think part of the problem with this season is that the extended Crowe family just seems like the Bennett family 2.0, both in terms of the individual members and their relationship with Boyd and Raylan. Alicia Witt is no Margo Martindale, but if S2 and S5 were flipped we'd probably look back more fondly on the Crowe season and question the Bennett arc. As much as I love the show, it's why it makes sense to end it after 6 seasons - without wildly expanding the world, there's only so many crime families you can have in the Harlan County area with ties to Raylan's past. I would however absolutely be down for Raylan Givens popping up on Hawaii 5-0 and CSI Miami or a spin-off featuring Tim and Rachel (True Detective Season 2?)
I would be surprised if Quarles is still alive. Raylan isn't the type to execute a criminal, but I also don't think he or Limehouse were in any hurry to call an ambulance or tourniquet that wound, and Quarles was gushing blood after getting dis"armed". Now if Ice Pick Nix or Jackie Nevada want to re-appear, yes please.

Just finished this week's Justified and it was very good.
Some of the best lines in a while:
"This is the worst job ever!"
Dewey saying, "When I gave you that, the anus is on you to protect it."
That and his gas stealing scene are top notch.
Season Finale looks to be solid, too.

Don't forget Raylan telling Dewey that he shouldn't be speaking in the third person. I love Dewey Crowe, I hope he doesn't die along with Daryl next week (surely that's what will happen right?) Any episode that puts Raylan and Boyd in the same room as frequently as this one did is going to be pretty good.

Ava could also die, but if they were intending for her death to be powerful or be the catalyst for next season's (presumed) Raylan-Boyd showdown they've messed that up.

Yup. I'm curious if anyone likes the Ava storyline. I thought she was a pretty solid character the first four seasons, she's dangerously close to "I'll just fastforward when I see her on screen" status now for me. :(

The Ava story line only became relevant with this last episode, IMO. I don't think Boyd has really given up on her, and we will see that in the last episode. Her now being desperate adds to the pressure.
I, too, love Dewey Crowe. And I like the idea of him and Dickie B getting together in jail.

Veep-
I'd give the premiere a solid A and I can't wait for this season to continue. I'm assuming that there will be some sort of bad deal made to incorporate the Jo-Nad into the VP camp. I could watch a 4 minute reel of Jonah insults that didn't make TV...someone needs to do this. JLD is freaking great.
Silicon Valley-
Very promising A-/B+ type start. Mike Judge has a great track record and I really like the cast a lot. Looking forward i'd say it's way more likely to be an A quality type show. So much material to satarize.

Fargo starts tonight on FX.
Orphan Black starts Saturday night.
My TV schedule is becoming a bit tight now:
Mondays: Clear
Tuesday: Shield + Fargo
Wednesday: Americans
Thursday: Clear
Friday: Hannibal
Saturday: Orphan Black
Sunday: Game of Thrones, Veep and Silicon Valley.
The only show I watch live is GoT. The rest are DVR'd and watched in the morning before work.
Throw in the NHL playoffs and, like Prince Humperdink before his wedding, I'm swamped.

Just wrapped up Shameless season four, marathon style. I agree, best season yet which is saying a lot.
Also, just catching up on Hannibal. What an amazing show if you can suspend reality a bit (Dexter style) about the sheer volume of crazy murders/serial killers.
The actor playing Hannibal does such a great job...chilling stuff.

So I watched the first episode of True Detective tonight. Creepy. And Matthew McI'mNotGoingToTryToSpellIt looks ill. I realize he lost the weight to film Dallas Buyer's Club but man does he look awful. I'm not sure on the show FOR ME. It might be too much.

From reading the interview Mike Schur did with Sepinwall (http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watching/parks-and-recreation-mike-schur-on-the-eventful-season-finale), it seems like they sort of treated this like it was, with the added bonus of giving the show some new life for the likely last season. Seems like they knew that they were out of quality material in the current point in time. I guess that's what happens when you spend five and a half years never knowing if you'll get a chance to come back with more in the fall.

Saw a review suggesting that we're just being shown the same deception that Hannibal is seeing... somehow. The first guy yeah he killed but self defense. If Will did that "display" or the other one though, thats a problem to me, and I pretty much want to see it revealed what's actually happening very very soon (ie. first 10 minutes of next episode needs to feature Will and Freddie Lounds talking or something).
Definitely disliked this episode, probably the first one I've completely outright disliked. I don't like the new storyline they're introducing yet either with the pig farmer dude and his sister. So far that just seems like two strange characters being pretentious and weird and evil with no story that I care about to make that ok. It could get there though.

Only Silence of the Lambs.
This character is the main villain of Hannibal the movie and those pigs factor in prominently.
I doubt they'll reveal the top secret plan with Frankie but I'm assuming Graham has either begged her to dissapear for safety or has locked her away. I think Graham figures the only way to get Letter is to 100% make him believe they are on the same level.

I have the same comment for that news that I had when I first heard about Smallville.
A: "Hey. What's the most interesting thing about Clark Kent?"
B: "That's easy. He's Superman."
A: "What we should do is take that interesting thing about him away and make a TV series out of it!"
You can apply that same jackass logic to Gotham.
