KISS single player -- simple House rules system
Love QUIK's POINT system but don't have the time to keep track of all those points -- my system here puts the salary cap back in to play in the single player game and makes good cohesion a difficult problem .
1) download my 1 year contract file

-- this has ALL contracts on all rosters at 1 year remaining...
Settings
Injuries 150 --- make higher if you wish but this will get 3 or 4 IRs and significant lineup problems each week
Xfactor off (personal pref)
combine accuracy 25 -- Higher can make it easier
2) for first season
make your preseason roster cuts
turn on all coach sign and roster depth chart automatically
SIM entire season
Now the fun begins --
3) Ensure all coach/roster functions are turned off so you are doing all of these
No franchise designation ever (for all subsequent years: no CAPOUTS and no renegotiations unless in the FINAL year of a contract only)
FA1.1) all Restricted FAs can be resigned for 3 year contracts ONLY
FA1.2) Remember 3 year contracts only -- YOU CAN ONLY MAKE OFFERS THIS FIRST STAGE; this forces 3-3.5 million 3rd year salaries
4) sim rest of FA1 stages
5) LFA1 -- Remember 3 year contracts only -- YOU CAN ONLY MAKE OFFERS THIS FIRST STAGE -sim rest of stages
6) TC -- you only can take 53 to camp...
7) post-TC- you can drop and make signings --- this is the only time 3 year contracts aren't possible (or required)
8) Play the year and win the SB, and start over but remember no CAPOUTS and no renegotiations unless in the last year of a contract only --- and only 3 year contracts for all FAs.

Here's my progression so far -- every offseason is challenging (I didn't gameplan too much as you can see by my records):
year 0 simmed (not reflective) 2013 --11-5
2014-- 11-5 18th Power ranking, Roster STR (franchise value screen) - 7th, 3 on IR, End of season report (roster/total) = 20/39
2015 had to release 9 players (bad planning in 2014) to get under cap -- only could field 50 players
4-12 -- 23rd PR, roster 10th best, 11 went on IR (have decent Strength guy -- 80 in conditioning); eos report (13/47)
2016 5-11 , 29th PR, roster 16th best, 3 on IR (went to 10 more minutes for TC conditioning),eos report (15/38)
2017 8-8, 26th PR, roster 19th best, 4 on IR, eos report (21/42)
2018 -- again only 50 players-- big impending last year players to be resigned in 2019
