Looks great, but then when the lights go on this is what you get:

He's a turnover machine. Greta (or Sage, whatever) already says he's the best in the game. He is infuriating in that he makes a great play, then throws a pick-6. He has one more season at the rookie rate & is going to want $25m/season.

He has good receivers & a decent line.

Would you keep hoping he plays to his ratings or trade him?

One more note: the formations he knows has not increased since drafting him. His first two seasons I had an assistant that specialized in QB's & was great at both development & with young players. Despite the red bars going up to what he was projected to be he doesn't seem to have progressed.

One reason for posting is I find this very interesting... there is another young QB who is playing great who doesn't have even close to his ratings. I'm wondering if this is something new in the game... a player who looks every bit a superstar, yet can't get it done when the lights come on.

How good of a playcaller is your OC?

Not knowing what his combines were, I would suggest since he has very high INT and Read Defense that his avoid INT bar is low. He probably will always be a turnover machine. This could be mitigated a bit by changing the gameplan to something with lower risk passes.

Do your WR's suck? I haven't played enough FOF7 to comment on this but in 2k7 plenty of times a stud QB without decent WR's would underachieve.

Does timing play that big of a factor?

I think it does for a short passing game plan. Particularly, a game plan like the West Coast offense. I had a QB that didn't have any redeeming qualities other than timing, and he ended up being very successful when using the West Coast offense. I would assume timing would be important when you expect to rely on yards after the catch from your receivers, since throwing with the timing off should theoretically have a negative effect on that.

So really it sounds like this QB has perfectly conflicting skillsets. He can read a defense, but he can't avoid throwing it to them, and he can make any throw, but his timing is total shit. Seems like if you took him off his rhythm, you'd beat him more often than not. It would be interesting to see how the AI game plans defensively for him. Do they consider the opponent? If so, how well do they recognize the weakness of their opponent?

WR's are pretty damn good (Calvin Johnson to start!) He never seemed to like going to Johnson though. A lot of his picks I noticed were tipped. I'd wonder how much being 6'1" affects that, but does it in this game? most of the generated QB's are on the short side. The OC his first two seasons was good calling plays (between the 50% & 75% markers,) but this season I dumped him for someone who is better (rating just past the 75% marker.

I'm thinking the timing may have a lot to do with it. Since he got injured I have started 2 dif QB's (my backup is a mentor who kinda sucks & I needed to sign a 3rd QB, who the game recommended starting.) The new QB is only a 27/27 guy, but his timing is 62. He proceeds to have a 3 TD, 0 INT game completing 68.6% (game 2 with him was only 2/0, 50%)

Of course when he gets back on the field he has a 2/0 70% game.

I noticed that when he plays we throw A LOT.

It kinda looks like your gameplan is geared maybe too much in favour of the deep ball. He has a sky high ypc, maybe promoting some more short passes in the game plan will increase his completion percentage and bring down all those turnovers you're seeing?

Unless something has changed in development, he's only in his 3rd season and avoid interceptions in the last bar for a QB to develop.

Is that the same for Avoid Fumbles for RB? I drafted a stud RB who fumbled 15 times in his rookie season  but then not at all in his second and only once in his third...

I believe it is.

Also, the player's experience indicated fully developed. I assume that means that all bars are fully developed (at least there is no green left) but maybe that is flawed wrt to avoid INTs.

I tried planning the offense myself & letting the coaches plan it... same results. INT's. In the offseason I traded him to Oakland rather than pay him starting at $23m. It may be me, as a quick look at him in his 1st preseason game... (Raiders looking good in preseason!)

Gilbert Thomason 16/19 212 2/0 148.2

Also, looks like a bug in the contract.

It clearly states the contract was 5 years, $52.69 mil. Actual retail price 5 years $126.49 mil

Edit: 1st game for the Raiders he throws 5 picks.
