I'm looking to get a projector for my rec room. How dark does the room have to be? There are a lot of windows that have blinds that I can some what control the sun coming in. Talking to the Best Buy guy he said that the room has to be pretty dark to get any sort of quality.
If it makes any difference here is the projector I was going to get:
Epson V11H561020 PowerLite Home Cinema 2030 1080p 3LCD Projector (http://www.amazon.com/Epson-V11H561020-PowerLite-Cinema-Projector/dp/B00EO96W2I/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top)

If you have a room that can't get completely dark, you'll need to focus on the lumens rating of the projector. The higher the number, the brighter the picture. That Epson has a lumens rating of 2000, which is on the low end.
The quality of the projection screen also can have a big impact. You'd want to look for ones that have a high reflectivity rating.

Lumens, Panel Size and surface of projection are critical to what you are going to do.

I have a projector in my basement and the only light comes from the fire escape windows in the other room and the only good time to watch is at night or with black posterboard in the windows. You don't want something like this upstairs I don't think.
EDIT: It's really cool for movies at night or sports by myself or with just me and my wife but it is terrible for people coming over because the darkness makes the mood a little strange.
