Well after a little bit of play, I have finally mastered some of the basics of FOF. For instance I can do a game plan that does not get "defense is familiar with that play" for the entire 4th quarter and I have a basic understanding of unmasking. And now there are some nuances I would like to understand.

1) When I run a a SE reverse in a 5WR Spread, I have twice gotten "defense familiar ..." the first time I used a reverse in that game, when I wasn't getting that message for any other play, and had no particular other imbalances. Anyone know why?

2) Does anyone know if any of the different pass plays are more effective against different defenses? By common sense a crossing pattern might be more effective against a Man defense, and a Curl against a zone, Does the game reflect this?

3) Do misdirection running plays like Trap and Draw bring in the defenders Diagnosis ratings more than other plays?

4) Is there anything besides a coaches discipline rating that affects penalties? I just went through two games of a massive amount of penalties over 100 yd per game, much more than my opponent, despite the fact my coach has a Very Good discipline rating, and my opponent had less than that. I was particularly hit with Offsides and Encroachment. I had 3 instances of having one of those penalties two times in a row. Is this just bad luck, or is there another factor I need to be aware of?

Thanks for any input!

#4 in pvs version player intelligence had a bearing on line penalties.

Wow, that can't be it. I just looked at my OL and in terms of intelligence they look like the Stanford Phi Beta Kappa club. Maybe it was just bad luck.

dice rolls

Sorry for being random, but it can be a pretty random game sometimes. Look at the end of year stats, it kind of averages out...if that makes any sense.

Cohesion could play a role.

Time spent in TC.

Conflicts along the line.

I would imagine anything like that could negatively affect penalties.

I have absolutely no data to back it up except that they will have an effect on dice rolls, we just don't know exactly which ones.

Pass Aggressive defense? Pass rush trying to jump the gun?

In past versions, the number of years the HC has been with the team had a fairly significant impact on penalties. (Longer tenure = fewer penalties.)

Clearly Jim Schwartz wasn't paying attention. ;)
