I just need to know this because I can't find a thermometer. How hot do you think it would get inside of a thin plastic cup that is sitting right on top of a 15 watt bulb?

Why do I get a feeling that local fire inspectors are going to be entering this post into evidence soon?

Chances are you'll melt the cup before someone gives you a correct answer on here... try not to electrocute yourself in the process.

I'm assuming you mean an incandescent bulb, not a fluorescent one.
What's in the cup? How long has it been on the bulb?

Well, you'll need to know mass of cup and the heat capacity of styrofoam, and the starting temperature. Ignoring outside cooling factors (such as wind, etc., inefficencies in heat transfer, etc), you could calculate the temp by: q = m Cp dT.
Q = 15 watts or 15 joules per second.
M = mass of the cup
Cp = heat capcity of styrafoam.
dT = Temp final - Temp initial
You were serious right? ;)

Let me guess... you're about to take a drug test and you want to know if the bathroom light bulb will be enough to heat the urine to the point of eradicating any trace of all that crank you did last weekend, right?

Hopefully he learned his lesson from Charles Rogers ... you need to add MORE water, not boil off the existing amount.

Awww... that's sweet.
Have you tried using the microwave?

Just stick it in your pants. It should be warm enough in there.

Honestly Doctor, I was just trying to keep my chicken warm ... it was a one in a million shot.

Well my stint as a mother has come to an end. I had to have a proper burial for my son/daughter.
