I am considering purchasing FOF7 and was just curious as to how good the AI is in the game? I plan on mainly playing in single player and just wondered if it puts up a good challenge over a long period of time or should I look elsewhere. Thank you in advance for everyone insight.

Much better than in FOF2k7, but in the long run mp is still the way to go.

AI is really good in my opinion

But MP game is more funny!!! As you can speak or thrash talk against your rivals!

Ehh, multiplayer I guess is fun for some but in my opinion I would never want to play a game where there was a set time where I HAD to play. Plus making up gameplans and potentially even calling plays for each game is more effort than I find enjoyable for a simple video game.

I don't think you understand what mp entails. Mp is simmed, you don't ever have to show up for a game and there's no individual playcalling. It's all done by the commish who pushes a button. You setup gameplans and let it rip. When the commish tells us the sim ran, you get to check out what happened.

The only thing you show up for is drafts and those are on timers so you don't have to sit around for hours on end, though many of us do because we shoot the shit with each other, which is why so many of us are into mp.

Still wouldn't be any fun for me and would be considered a waste of a purchase. For one thing I like to watch my games as it helps me get into the team and the league. Just simming through everything is pretty boring in my opinion. Also if I was in the mood to knock out a couple games in a row I couldn't because I would have to wait for the time when the next weeks schedule was set to be simmed.

Also not really into the whole deal of having online friendships so that part doesn't intrigue me either.

Lol, mp just isn't for me.

Ground Cat,

You can watch the games using Solevision or many leagues post spoiler free game logs. Both are pretty nifty though for those who want a little more immersive feel to the MP set up. MP can also lead to some genuinely nasty division rivalries that add a lot of fun.

But whatever floats your boat.

Good to see Ground Cat back around these parts. The AI is pretty solid on a macro level. Seasons and careers are generally pretty competitive even if a few franchises tend to make poor decisions or get themselves into terrible cap situations over time.

You may have just sold me on the game. Although I would not rule mp out sp with an good AI is what I am most interested in. I also agree with Cat I like to play games out and would want to be involved with calling plays/ setting up game plans. The financial model is really not my first love. I do like drafting and setting up gameplans and calling plays etc.. I also agree with Cat about the immersion factor of developing a team and playing the game out watching it unfold..

I think the AI holds up really well when playing the game at a slower week-to-week pace like you describe. The handful of issues I've seen have been in careers spanning decades, where you occasionally see some teams go through some serious self-inflicted cap catastrophes.

Do you think in a way that may be true as in the real NFL over decades since teams appear for the most part since the cap spend a decade doing well then have to rebuild or is it completely stupid mistakes that are complete errors to the point that it is apparent the AI is lacking. I hate to keep asking such in depth questions but I have been burned by so many football based games that have pathetic AI unfortunately I am over cautious.

That's a good point. It does tend to mirror real life in that way. The AI is good. The game is not everyone's cup of tea, but I find it competitive and fun.

The biggest problem with the way the AI manages their team (speaking from FOF2007 as I don't own FOF7) is that the computer gets into bidding wars over some of the best free agents available. Instead of throwing in the cards and saying this player is getting too expensive they just keep on making their offer higher and higher until they just outbid everyone else. So as a result if you look over AI rosters you will have about five or six stars making way more money than they should and about half of the roster will be filled up with scrubs because the computer can't afford anybody any better because they paid so much in those bidding wars they got into.

If I had to guess I would imagine that he created the AI to do this on purpose because if the AI was good at handling their roster over long stretches of time human players would start becoming frustrated that it wasn't so easy to build a successful team on the game.
