Hey all-
My wife and I both teach AP and our scores came in this evening and were wildly good (I teach Literature and the wife teaches US History). So we want to celebrate sometime this week and I'm going to splurge on a good bottle of champagne.
I'm part of the rap culture though and so Cristal, which I've never tried, is in my head. I have enjoyed Dom in the past but the wife finds it too dry, not sweet enough.
Anybody have a recommendation for a mildly sweet champagne that is worthy of celebration or should I just go with Cristal as I've wanted to try it, literally, for 12 years now!

vote PB
Haven't done that in a while, that felt good. ;)
As for the champagne, no clue as I have never cared for it much.
Congrats on the "wildly good" scores!!!

Fantastic champagne that won't break the bank. Can pick it up in most stores.......

Good luck Cougar!
Thanks EF, that definitely felt good to get voted again. I need to hop back in.
And Mizzou, definitely appreciate the advice, especially as it is relatively easy to find. Thanks!

I'll agree with MBBF Ponsardin is a better and cheaper taste than Cristal.
But who cares about taste, this is about celebration.
Buy a bottle of Cristal and indulge so you can say you did what you wanted to.

Cristal is pretty great, actually, and on the sweeter side. I prefer Dom myself, but I'm also more into the dry side of things.

Cold duck. I'm a cheap drunk.

MBBF hit the nail on the head with my favorite champagne in that price range.
I'm a big fan of good old Moet too.

If you've wanted to be a Cristal BALLER for years, by all means do that.

Champagne's sweetness/Dryness can be described in the following terms that are outlined on the bottle:
Dry to Sweet:
Extra Brut
Brut (the most common type)
Sec
Demi-Sec
Drox

I came into this thread planning to recommend Vueve Clicquot, but MMBF beat me to it.
My last name is Brignac, so I'll also recommend Armand De Brignac, but since Jay Z and Beyonce sing about it all the time, it it WAY overpriced. (And I've never had it; I just like the name :) )

I actually went with your advice (to a degree) mainly because Cristal has become wildly over-priced in my area: $250 a bottle. Instead, we went with Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame 2004, a brut, and it really was wonderful.
Living it up in a hotel in Coralville, Iowa as the wife has a 4 day AP seminar starting tomorrow and I'm tagging along to enjoy the hotel and the area.
Thanks for the advice all, glad you guys steered us towards the V.C.

Might as well throw this out there too as you guys have been helpful. Our plan going forward with AP scores:
If we both get bad scores, we'll wallow in a bottle of Andre.
If one gets good scores and the other bad, we'll go mid-level bottle
If we both get good scores, this sets our new tradition, trying something great.
Thanks again
AND wish CougarFreak congrats as his scores were terrific as well!

Our crazy teachers and their living it up with their wild bottles of champagne! This is what's wrong with 'murica! Something about teacher unions and rich teachers and irresponsibility. Rabble, rabble, rabble :D
Congrats on the good test scores!

Thanks man, my kids kicked ass and took names. I'm really proud of them. They were way, way above the national average, in what's really a normal school (no magnet school or anything). This was my third year teaching the course, and I really feel comfortable with it, and of course, next year for like the first time in 40 years they are changing the format something awful.

Good on you teachers and your kids! I'm young enough to have come through the HS ranks with a heavy dose of APs, did well, and should remember to give the teachers their due credit. :)

Hence, my new saying
"I'm gonna party like an AP teacher in Coralville!"
Congrats on the good news. Glad you liked the wine.

Wow, I did actually live it up in Coralville/Iowa City today before we left. I drove down to the Riverside Casino, spent 27 minutes there and hit a royal flush on the maximum pay Jacks or Better video poker machine!!!
Life is good!
