Im looking on a relatively small screen.

Are you asking about the black "triangles" at the bottom of the screen?
Or something that is on the screen that I cant see.

Also laptop or monitor??

I read this response in a couple of places and saw it disputed. How can I be certain that the entire screen needs replacing and it isn't just something that has dislodged, etc.? How certain are you of this answer?

Well I'm working with 1 pic and a very brief description...I'd say 80+% certain.

"Dislodged"...I just can't imagine what would become dislodged to cause that.

Here would be the 100% certain answer. Does it ever go away? I.E when you power it on from a cold off is it clean for a very few seconds (I actually suspect it probably is...) if so then its 99.99% certain the LCD.

If the pattern ever dances up the screen or dramatically changes then its more likely a driver issues (and I mean driver in the sense of the PCB that feeds the signal to the screen...not the software drivers that need updating) and the screen is displaying what is being sent to it.

Finally if it NEVER clears up and hasn't grown any in an extended period of time ...then that is where there is some wiggle between my 80 and 99..



[Note I am using experience with Larger screens, specifically TVs and applying them to a laptop screen. Ive seen the issue 100+ times in TVs...but am no laptop expert]

No, there is 100% never any change in this pattern. Another person trying to help me called it "blacklight bleed" which I'm not certain about. He seemed to think *maybe* if I opened it up I could re-glue it or something?

Yes, I saw that thread. There was some disagreement about what the problem was in the comments there and there are other places that give different opinions, too.

Additionally, the description of the problem doesn't match mine:

"I've noticed that restarting the computer fixes it temporarily (not always though). I've also noticed the backlight flickering a little bit, and then having the dark spots either go away or come back."

Mine does not match that at all. Mine never changes.

I need to be absolutely certain before I replace the entire screen.

I appreciate the link. Most sites I had looked at did not have my particular screen, but it looks like that one does, though it would be nice if it had a price listed.

edit: actually that one doesn't have it either. Wholesale only. I would have to buy 10 screens. I'm not sure replacing my whole screen is even an option at this point.

If you connect to an external monitor and it works fine, it's the LCD. If you get the same display, it's the video card (system board).

What is the make/model of the pc?

Right, it's definitely something with the display (external output is fine, so it's not the video card). I'm trying to find out if it's something like the backlight or the inverter or something that's come loose that can be put back in place, etc.

It's a Dell Studio 1535 with 1440x900.

Here is a video that shows you how to replace the LCD, you could open it up and check the wires/connections. I think eventually though.. you'll need to purchase an LCD.

Just pick the correct resolution (the two at the bottom).

Quit being stubborn, replace the LCD. :)

There is no CCFL option on that 2nd website for your resolution, so I would say it's LED.

Give me your s/n and I might be able to get that info from Dell's website.
