when is the best time to release a big contract (letīs say the last year of a nine year pro) that you canīt afford to make room for a contract extension of a young star + resigning the "old" player?
when i try it during the off-season / traing camp period they donīt want to sign again (because of injustices in the past)but i saw that an assistant of my team release a player with a big contract during the regular season and signed him back on for a year and 2.75 mil to make cap space available.
would i be possible to do this too?

AI or human controlled transaction?

The AI does things a mere mortal can only dream off.

iīm playing single player-career with the option that the staff resets the depth chart and staff fills rosters. the situation i described happened with "my team" during the regular season.

that's still AI help

if you want to cut a guy and resign him, id say cut him before the super bowl and resign him once you move ahead to the next year.

i know.
i changed the settings for the last few seasons and tried a similar move with an 11 year old FB (releasing him during the sason of his last year of the contract to resign him to a cheaper one year deal) but it failed. he didnīt want to sign with me due to past injustices :(
