Discovery Channel's Naked and Afraid

Does anyone watch this show? I find it to be a better version of a show like Survivor plus it's all contained in an hour.

I watch it when I visit my parents. It's weirdly entertaining, especially from the standpoint of no fucking way would I ever do that. I remember one of the earlier episodes, a producer got bit by a fer-de-lance.

Love the show. I especially enjoy the deserted island and jungle episodes, not so much desert. If I had the background, I would do it.

Some misc musings -

1) Regardless of the show title, I think its unfair they start off naked. In what situation would a anyone find themselves naked? Even the cro magnon or neanderthal had animal hide to start of with. They automatically get zapped at the start due to exposure to the environment.

2) They are allowed one item and most ask for a blade and fire starter. More recent episodes, they ask for a blade or pot (to boil water in). A blade of some sort is a given. In a jungle, I would be tempted to go with a fishing combo or a slingshot with the bet that I could start a fire primitive style

3) I've seen how a bow drill to start fire with 2 people is much easier than only 1. I don't see a lot of cooperation here which makes me wonder really how much experience some of these survivalists really have. If I got on the show, I sure as heck would be practicing my fire starting skills

4) They are given bags to store things in. Don't get why they don't use it for clothing or cordage (maybe against the rules?)

5) More recent episodes show people that don't like nor work well with each other, I think mostly due to gender issues. It would be interesting to see same sex episode.

6) That guy eating an unknown mushroom was pure stupid. There's no way he was an experienced survivalist or outdoor person

7) That chauvinist was a total asshole.

8) The female witch did nothing on the episode (or nothing that was shown) but bitched about her partner all the time.

9) Airforce SERE instructors are the best. It would be good to see one.

10) Should be called Naked and Starving.

Obvious moves seem to be collecting a ton of firewood the first few days. These idiots I saw last night let their fire burn out. Never drink untreated water...if you do it you're done. Saw another one last night and this Nicole Ritchie looking girl was trying to get body heat off the dude and he kept getting skeeved out. Probably was self conscious about morning wood. It seems like the key is to have a good partner and not to fight. As with anything, DVR it and commercial skip or it becomes really hard to watch.

I like the show, but I think the name detracts from it. They should have called it Naked Survival or something.
