NFL Suggests Katy Perry, Rihanna, Coldplay Pay to Play Super Bowl | Rolling Stone (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/nfl-super-bowl-rihanna-coldplay-katy-perry-20140819)
This is just funny. But then it started making me think about the other night when I was going to watch Patriots/Eagles.
So, I had already watched a few minutes when the wife said she'd like to watch a movie. I figured what the heck. I could use my cable app to keep tabs on the game while we watched the movie.
That was a big NOPE. Turned on the app and the NFL Network had the Steelers/Giants from the week before. Now I understand the NFL trying to monetize new tech. But I already pay for the NFL Network through my cable subscriber and should be able to use that app to watch a game in my home that is playing on the damned channel!

Who do you have as your video provider? Many have an app that will let you watch live TV in your home (nearly all channels).

That is what I'm talking about. I have the TWC app.

So, what you're saying is, the TWC app had the NFL Network available. If you watched the game on regular NFL Network you'd see the Patriots/Eagles, but if you watched it on your TWC app it was last week's Steelers/Giants game?
I've never heard of alternate feeds like that.

Exactly what happened.

That is crazy - always thought when viewing from the cable/satellite app you're seeing the direct feed from the network.

So did I, but apparently not.

Yes, my Roku streaming of the TWC app also has had blockages during live NFL games during preseason. Makes little sense.

Ah, I thought you were using the NFL's app (wasn't sure).
Apparently they still haven't implemented something to handle alternate feeds on the app side. That sucks...no real good reason for it to not work the way you'd expect.

The NFL seems to have embraced, more wholeheartedly than the other pro sports leagues, that you can be as greedy and fan-unfriendly as you want, and the eyeballs will keep growing.
The number of "Can you believe that the NFL is doing [greedy behavior X]?" stories is outpaced only by the number of "NFL ratings continue to break records" stories.

I have seen that too with the TWC app - when I wanted to watch MLB, it blacked out the channel on the app. I haven't tried it since I switched to U-Verse, but I imagine it is the same thing.

Simple they realize the only thing to Americans that sells at least as well if not better than sex is violence which the NFL is. Roman Empire and the Coliseum was the forefather of the NFL for all intent.
