View Full Version : So there's a falling tree dangling over our house...

It broke off in the middle about half an hour ago. Fall was broken by another, smaller tree. Here's hoping the tree removal people get here before it falls the rest of the way (which appears to be inevitable.) Looks like the primary damage would be done to the garage, and there's basically zero chance that it could damage the parts of the house that any of us are in for the rest of the evening, but still not exactly the plan for this evening...

Not that we're in any real danger, but I keep thinking about this cartoon:

I learned to read partially from old Peanuts collections. I was horrified by this series of strips as a young lad.

/me pictures Ben going outside with his chainsaw to secure the tree and prevent more damage to the "house" and the family.

The brief update:

1. It hasn't fallen yet.
2. It has gotten worse.
3. A tree removal company came out yesterday morning to look at it. They did not come back.

More later...

Oh...

4. We just moved to a new state on short notice, so we're renting this house, thankfully.

(Will post a pic or two later if I get a chance.)

Since you are renting, doesn't this fall under one of those things that the owner of the house should be helping take care of ASAP?

Ben..I know a lot of people in the area and ,almost all around the construction or home services industry. with a call or two I can find a tree guy if needed.

Let me know if I can assist.

Oh....left that out. The trunk of the tree is on the property of the house next door. So other than bugging them, our hands seem to be pretty much tied.

And we're leaving to visit family in Georgia in about 2 hours.

Do you have renters insurance?

Good luck..heading to Georgia myself in about an hour.

Also..make sure and contact the landlord/property owner...depending on what your lease says you may have a liability to alert him of imminent damage to the home that he could hold you responsible for otherwise...

Yes, we have renters insurance. And yes, we contacted the management company 15-20 minutes after we heard it break and fall.

That's not a broken tree, that's a trebuchet! Time to start chunkin' some pumpkins!

On the road, gassing up. The tree removal company showed up just before we left.

I can see why you are a bit worried.

That's going to be a bitch for the tree removers.
