Noob getting feet wet: Customizing game plans based on opponent

Hi all!

I just purchased FOF, running the Dallas Cowboys out of the chute. We went 8-8 in our first season, I tried running plays a bit, tried doing a lot of tinkering just to understand the game. Was fun, realized Kyle Orton stinks due to a Tony Romo injury, and in general just got my feet wet.

The off-season was AMAZING. Holy cow I loved the draft/free agency. If I wasn't sold on the game before the off-season I totally am enthralled now.

I've found that the way I like to play is just GM the team and then watch the team play in the scoreboard. The one thing I'd like clarity on is this:

How can I truly scout my opponent? In general the scouting report page is extremely top level. I'd like to know which side of the line I should be focusing my runs on based on their guys. Is there a weak cornerback to pick on? Which side of their offensive line is weak? Etc. I know I can see overall ratings, but it seems to be a lot of work to truly gain insights about each opponent.

What do you all do to scout your next opponent, or do you not care much and just focus on your own team?

Any help in this area would be awesome.

A secondary question that isn't really related, but my RB2 is getting like 40% of the carries. Is there a setting that designates that? it just seems like he gets entered into the game quite a bit more than I'd prefer him to.

You can click on the opponents in the scouting report and see the players' bars (you could also look through their entire roster, too). There's also the in-game Film Room, but it's largely outclassed by gstelmack's Gameplan Analyzer (http://www.operationsports.com/fofc/showthread.php?t=88552).

RB2 getting a lot of carries probably indicates RB1 has low endurance.

You can also look at the Team Summary as it'll show you the players who have played, not just current starters.

From there, like aston said, I look at individual player cards to see what they're good/bad at.

I mostly focus on my team, mostly. I don't find this game is all that great at exploiting weaknesses. FOF7 is better than 2k7 was, but it's still tough to target one guy (like a backup RT).

That said, if a team has poor run D, I run more. If their linebackers can't cover, I throw more to my TE. If the have a stud DE, I run away from him more.

The catch is you can't go crazy with your alterations as you'll end up getting familiars (the message "defense is familiar with that play") and that is basically giving the defense a significant advantage.

Gameplanning is advance level stuff though. I'd recommend becoming more familiar with drafting and what the different bars first before going into gameplanning. Part of the problem, as I see it, is that gameplanning is fairly confusing overall and tough to understand the nuance of how it's designed in this game.
