My Own Website

For a long time now, I've wanted to register my own website, but have it strictly for forums. Just go to the domain, and you are chatting.

I've never known what to do it on though - I like most all sports, but I feel to attract a crowd that is too general. What are your guys' thoughts on something like that? A board based on one sport (to start out atleast, maybe be something like this eventually), or do you think it'd work to have a more broadened forum?

I just love designing forums and think it'd be fun. :)

When it comes to basic web design, posting pictures of scantily clad babes is always a good place to start.

Problem is, I'm only going to attract Bengals fans. I want lots of people to the site, not just 5 or 6. :)

Your more likely to have success "building a community" if you start off with a narrow focus. Then post on similar forums about your board (those that allow it) and get yourself on the search engines. Try to develop a core of active posters.

Once you got a decent amount of activity, try and gauge what other areas of expertise or interest the people you already have hooked and expand in that direction slowly.

On a more design slant, stick with the least amount of sub-forums as possible early on. People who might look elsewhere thinking the place is inactive with 10 forums each with 10 posts in it each, might stick around and think their getting in on the start of something at a place with two forums with 50 posts each. You can always add sub-catergories later if warranted.

Shorty, you'll be happy to know that I've just joined a Madden league with full fantasy draft and have taken up the cause of the Bengals! :) In my league, the Bengals will have winning seasons, or at least I hope they will. (Only because the Cowboys were already taken. :p )

Good advice that I was already aware of. Many boards I see start off and think the more specific categories the better, but then end up having very little activity as each has just a few topics and makes people get tired of going forum-to-forum.

I'd go with something that was mainly football, but also had a lot of hockey and baseball, as well as soccer. Also discussion of the Iraq war, various games and puzzles, and lots of polls.

And squids. Perhaps above average in size.

Actually, forget it. That probably wouldn't work.

A problem with going sport specific-- which sport would I choose? I love basketball, baseball, and football..

Why choose? You can just have it be on sports, in general.
