I used to draw comic strips when I was younger. Not as good as Flere, of course.

Man I used to love the original, incredibly dangerous Jarts - that was like our major family sport - yes I'm old.

I think this one is from 4th grade or so. I did Star Wars and James Bond parodies. Stuff like that. Sadly, some of them still make me laugh a little.

Haha, memories.
I dabbled in things like this, but a couple friends of mine in high school did a whole series of comics based on the tiny toons universe.. Their thing was sort of this "Rat Race" knockoff and they worked on it together for the entirety of high school. They were twins, so they always had time to put in a little work on it at home apparently.. I think they ended up with about a 50 page long story and I don't remember how it ended, but I do remember being kind of stunned at how consistent the story and the drawings remained over the whole 4 years.

They were a lot of fun to do. I had a few geeky friends at school that I'd share them with. I've started sharing them with my son who is around that age now, and he seems to enjoy them. (I won't show him the Escape From New York knockoff "Escape from Northside" where we blew up our school. :)
Honestly, if I had the talent to do it, I would LOVE to be a professional cartoonist. Obviously, no artistic talent at work here, and even legible handwriting is a challenge for me. But they were fun to do when I was a kid. (I find myself wanting to go in and fix misspellings and that kind of stuff.) Also, I wish I hadn't drawn them on the fronts and the backs.
I think I started with James Frog 006.9, and expanded my comics universe from there. He's referenced a couple of times in the Star Warts strips above.
