View Full Version : New laptop battery that doesn't totally suck

I have a solid laptop that I use for a variety of things, but its battery is nearly shot. On a full charge, I only get about 50-60 minutes of life. This happened with the original battery after about a year, now I use a replacement bought online, but it fairly quickly landed in the same place.

So, my two questions are:

-any advice on where to go to purchase a reliable new battery for my laptop? (purchased from iBuyPower, it's apparently a Clevo P170EM).

-I think I have my settings turned on for reasonable power conservation when unplugged, but if anyone has a link to a readable site that might help me confirm, that would be much appreciated also.

Need to cut this short...my battery is down to 17% so I'll be shutting off shortly, heh.

Dunno about batteries but make sure it isn't running super hot. Like clean out the vents and such. Could be overworking a fan or something and that is wearing out the battery.

Sounds like that particular model is known as having battery issues. Apparently there is a BIOS update floating around out there that helps, but it isn't a straightforward update.

As for a replacement battery, it looks like 8 cell is the standard. If you can find a 12 cell battery, that would help extend the runtime on battery.

We bought a super cheapo option for the wife's Asus off Amazon (Like $35 and came with a new wall charger.)

18 months later its done and the charger is worn out and both need replaced but at <$50 I'm happy with the purchase.

Many thanks... it tends to run noisy and hot, so I may check that stuff out as well.
