Let's see if we can get something out of this.

The Challenge: How many rushing yards can you get out of your quarterback?

Let's see what we can get out of this... post your response in this thread. If you're playing single player, I would ask you to post a screenshot of your Team Summary screen, a screenshot of your QB page according to your own scout, and to be at least reasonably candid about the nature of your gameplan or other relevant team setup (like having certain types of players elsewhere).

If you want to post results from an online MP league, then post links we can follow without logins or permissions, please.

This sounds interesting (especially since I have a 2nd year scrambler in IHOF). I'll try to take a shot in SP at it this weekend.

Any limitations on game plans, wins, etc.? (I tend to suspect that the best way to maximize QB rushing yards is with a sub-optimal game plan.)

As a minimum I hope they can beat Randall (cpu controlled).

If the image doesn't show up here are his splits (Year/Att/Yds/Avg/TD)
1988/131/1040/7.94/3
1989/108/779/7.21/9
1990/129/1148/8.90/1
1991/113/830/7.35/10

Let's go with Wild Wild West setting here - no limits. Go 1-15 if you must, but jack up the QB rushing totals is your only goal.

Probably don't need a ton of detail here. 98 Scramble Frequency, 73/73 overall rating, 0-55-45 game plan.

Was that using a ton of 5-WR sets? Exclusively?

No. Spread the sets out evenly. 5.9 and 5.8 everywhere except 0 for GL.

I did some looking into this fairly early in version 7 and came to the conclusion that a vast majority of QB runs in FOF7 are scrambles, not called runs. Therefore, the best way to maximize QB rushing is to throw it all the time, thus maximizing the number of rushing attempts. I haven't noticed anything that would indicate that the formation matters when it comes to how often they'll run, though I suppose it could be a secondary factor. And maybe there's a sweet spot at 10% or 15% or 20% passing where you'd get fewer familiars, therefore fewer sacks, and that would perhaps increase the rushing attempts a bit. But to reiterate, my take is that the primary factor in maximizing QB rush attempts is simply "number of called passes."

Maybe having receivers with poor route running would help.

How about sense rush for the QB? Maybe a worse or at least poor-at-pass-blocking O-Line? Basically, yes you want to increase scrambling, so more pressure that the QB recognizes and tries to get away from?

My FOOL QB is in the 100 rush / 770 yard / 4 TD neighborhood this year and last without trying.

This guy is easily the best QB I've ever had in any incantation of the game and is the cornerstone to what is my most successful career. 8 straight Super Bowl wins. I don't touch the game plan.

How did you get that Randall screen? Is there an option to replay historical seasons available?

I've found that simply throwing more often will result in more QB runs.

I also experimented with a bad pass blocking OL to force more runs, but didn't personally find that effective.
