Hey,
So my wife and I are signing a contract on a home up in Salem, OR and if all goes well we will be moving up there at the end of April.
Considering I'm moving away from where we both grew up and that I have never had a get together with all the guys that are down here in SoCal I decided this might be a damn good time to finally do something about it.
Bug? Chief? Jedi? Whoever else.
I'm thinking a a Saturday or Sunday day time thing is probably the best option, and it will be somewhere in Orange County. Let me know if you are interested and we can figure things out from there. Heck maybe we can do one of the preseason freeway series games at Anaheim Stadium...?

I have a deep-seated disdain for Salem, but welcome to Oregon! How'd you end up choosing Salem, or was the choice made for you?

Well... We took a vacation up there a couple years back and fell in love with the area. Salem seems to have a nice smaller town feel that we want to get to as we escape Southern California, the traffic, the pollution, and crowdedness.
We are finalizing an offer over in West Salem overlooking the city with the backdrop of Mt. Jefferson and can't wait.
My job allows us to basically decide where we want to live as long as I'm close enough to a decent airport to fly around the country, so it works great for us.

I'm sure it's lovely. I think Salem suffers in the eyes of other Oregonians because I-5 pretty much forces you to spend a half-hour in the ugliest parts of Salem whenever you're on your way to somewhere else.

Good luck on the move. My parents had left SoCal for Redding; my brother left SoCal for SF; my other brother left SoCal for Portland; and my son will eventually be in the Northwest somewhere.

I work from home 1/2 the time and travel the other half so I don't do a lot of rush hour driving. But on Tuesday I had to go to Pasadena for a couple hours and it took me 2 hours. Then when I got on the road to come back home their air looked so shitty it reminded me of one of the biggest reasons I've grown tired of this area. Thanks for the luck! I have no idea what to expect. Moving away from all our family and friends, but we know in the long run it's a better life for us and our little one. It will be an experience moving with a 2 year old, 4 cats, and 2 dogs...

Good for you Dangarion! When Antmeister and I lived in L.A. we lived near Hollywood at a really busy intersection. Cars, buses, you name it, lots of traffic. We'd go on walks and choked at the smoke coming from these buses so we moved to San Diego. Much nicer. Eventually we ended up here in Austin and it's for the same reason you're moving - for a better life for you and your family.
I wish you all the luck!
