Great read. Particularly enjoyed the modern day write-up. Mark Rypien and the 91 redskins were not on my radar. Then the no.1 spot further confirms you can be a great team without a great QB.

I think FOF models this pretty well now.

It feels about right. The 94 niners were a monster on offense - Steve Young said they knew that they were going to destroy San Deigo prior to the game and they did - so much so that they scripted their first N plays and didn't deviate (so I understand).

The 91 Skins were the era of their dominant O line plus a scary defense.

Wasn't it a 49er signature that they would script a certain number of plays and just do them no matter what -- sort of like they cared more for the info they gained by running those plays than the results. Hadn't that been their routine for a long time?
