View Full Version : FOF 7 has stopped working...

Still no cure for the problem...I have had someone contact me 3 times and its basically been, "still having trouble?, well something must be causing it"...So at present I have paid for the college years, the FOF7 from steam, and one from solesimic, and have a game that quits when it decides to. Usually that decision comes late in the game. Today, with 29 seconds left , it quit on me. I really like this game, but that love affair is flaming out pretty fast when I cant make it through games without a crash that apparently has no fix. I am in no way blaming solesimic, I don't know why its crashing, it could very well be a windows issue for me. I have updated everything I possibly can on my end so I don't know what else to try. I guess Im left waiting for the release of the game who's name I apparently am not allowed to mention in this forum as my previous post where I did so was removed. If anyone has information about whats causing the game to stop working in play calling mode, I would be most grateful for your feedback. Thank you

Are there any errors shown when it crashes? What does your system look like? Are there any other apps you run that crash as well?

Hey Craig, thanks for the reply. The box pops up telling me it has stopped working(not responding doesn't show up), immediately a green bar scans from left to right about twice, in under a couple of seconds, then goes away. I get no report, nothing. I can then only click a button that says close, and I leave the game and go to desktop, having lost everything unsaved prior to that kickoff. I am running a Lenovo k450 creation centre pc. It has windows 8.1 64bit system installed. I have 8gigs of RAM. I have Nvidia GeForce GT635 graphics. Norton Antivirus. Emerson 43"lcd running at 1680 x1050 resolution. I have updated all available drivers and operating system and software updates. I have tried running the game in various compatibility settings and different resolutions. I have run the game with Norton turned off as well. The game, will run apparently forever, if I just don't go into play calling mode . I can sim to my hearts content, for hours, playing with the rosters, trades, etc... but once I enter into play call mode. I might complete the game, I might not. It seems to crash about half the time, and always late in the game it seems. Sometimes I make it, but not very consistently. I really like the game and wish it wouldn't crash as I like it because OF the play calling ability, not the sim ability. I have no idea how I can get an error report for what is happening as it doesn't give me one. The game has never crashed while just simming. I think I have a very strong pc so I don't know how that could be the problem. Again, thanks for taking the time to touch base Craig.

Definitely a weird scenario.. This is one of the most stable games out there, so there must be something, some kind of software conflict or perhaps some kind of malware/virus/etc causing this. The green bar scanning left to right seems really odd to me.

Front Office Football is one of the most stable games I know.
It’s not running on your PC the way you want is very unfortunate.
Unfortunately I can’t help you at all on your issue but allow me to remind you that there are great Front Office Football MP leagues out there.
Maybe you should give a membership in a MP league a chance - and enjoy it.
Because then your money would not be paid finally free.
You know, if life throws lemons at you make lemonade of it.
And who knows, maybe in the future, a solution to your problem comes up.

Are there any messages in your Windows Event Viewer which might provide a clue regarding the issue?

This may be a long shot but when I first purchased the game I had similar problems and it ended up being my antivirus. If I just disabled it I was still having problems. I finally un-installed my antivirus completely and that fixed the problem.

Do you guys use Norton?
I read again and again of big problems using Norton!

I do use Norton..sigh....well that sucks. but thanks silver owl and Templar. I have tried disabling Norton without uninstalling it and I saw no improvement. If I chose to shed Norton from my system, whats a stable one to go with that wont bankrupt me?, thanks guys, for the feedback

Search the web!
I think there are specific procedures to remove Norten clean and completely from the system.
And to be specific, Norten seems to cause big problems with many software.

Search for Norton Removal Tool. They have developed a separate program just to remove their products. I have been using Avast for the past couple of years and have had no problems at all. I use the free version. I also do periodic scans with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free. Good luck with this. I know how frustrating it can be when a game keeps booting you out like that. When Front Page Sports Football first came out in the 90s I had almost the exact same issue. :banghead:

Update, I have removed Norton and installed Kaspersky. I have played two games in play call mode, without issue. (fingers crossed). If your curious, my Giants beat the Skins 20-19 on the road, then lost at Baltimore, 22-17, lol.....man I hope this fixes it. I wanta say thanks for all the input and feedback. I really believe this game is TOP SHELF. I just want it to work right. I think my issue(s) are something unrelated to the game software / programming, but really had no where to turn to for help. Hopefully, we are good to go.. I will post an update over the weekend for those interested. Maybe this is something that will be of benefit to others.

After spending quite a bit of time looking at this, I think it's a bug. And it's something that requires a patch at the very minimum. I hope to get something out within a week.

/prods about the 3 QBs requirement in the meantime ;)Has anyone actually reported this through the correct channels?

I guess for some reason I thought it was just a design decision (it certainly seems like it, since in FOF2k7 we saw the "Can be OUT" text for QB3, but that's no longer there). But I emailed just now, just in case it actually is a bug.
