Small game - Return of Werewolf Xtreme (Game over! Result in Post 401)

To fill the time until EF's game starts, I'll run a 9 player game that is a repeat of one Autumn did some years ago. The big change from most games is there are no roles revealed upon death. The first 9 to sign up will be in and off we'll go, start date of Monday or whenever it fills up.


Good Roles:

Seer - Each night receives a vision of a target player as 'wolf' or 'not wolf.' The seer receives a vision on Night 0 of one randomly chosen player that is 'not wolf.' Thereafter, the seer chooses which player to view.

Priest - Each night receives a vision of a target deceased player. The vision tells the priest that deceased player's exact role. The priest must choose one deceased player to view.

Hunter - If only two players remain in the game and the hunter is one of those players, then the good team wins even if the other player is a werewolf.

3 Villagers - Ordinary villagers with no special powers.


Evil Roles:

2 Werewolves - The werewolves know each other's identity, and may private message/chat without restriction. Each night the wolves choose one target player to kill.

Sorcerer - Each night receives a vision of a target player as 'seer' or 'not seer.' The sorcerer receives a vision on Night 0 of one randomly chosen player that is 'not seer.' Thereafter, the sorcerer chooses which player to view. The sorcerer wins if the wolves win, but counts as a villager for victory purposes. The Sorcerer does not know the wolves and the wolves do not know the Sorcerer.


Victory Conditions:

Good - All good players win if all werewolves are eliminated, or if the last two players remaining are the hunter and one werewolf. The sorcerer does not have to be eliminated in order for Good to win.

Evil - All evil players win if the wolves achieve parity: if at any time the number of wolves remaining equals the number of non-wolves remaining (including the sorcerer), evil wins. However, if one wolf is left with the hunter, then good wins. The sorcerer counts as a 'non-wolf' for these purposes.


DEADLINES

10 pm EST - Voting deadline. Any votes marked 10:01 or later will not count.

10:30 pm EST - Dawn deadline. Any night actions must be submitted by 10:30.

THE BASICS

Only edit posts within 5 minutes of the original post time and only for formatting / spelling / grammar.

No quoting of private messages.

No discussion of the game outside the thread.

Any player inactive for 36 hours will be replaced.

VOTING

Every day the village votes for who they wish to lynch. The player who receives the most votes by day's end will be killed.

In order to vote, please post your vote in bold and on a separate line.

You may change your vote at any time before the deadline by posting an unvote and then a new vote, both in bold. Nightfall votes must be unanimous and will still be dependent on my availability. Once you vote with Nightfall, your vote is locked and cannot be changed.

You may not self-vote or vote No Lynch.

Tie votes will be resolved by whichever candidate has the longest held vote on them.

Roles will not be revealed upon lynch or upon night kill. Only the Priest will have knowledge about the allegiance or role of any of the dead.

These small games are very tough. Only requires 4-5 votes to get lynched, and we've got two wolves and a sorceror. The benefit is the wolves are very hesitant to help each other out so if we can get one in the lead we're good. Vote movement tends to be more villager because of that.

Ironically, I don't have a feeling for this, despite being the one that has multiple times forced this role and ruleset on you unhappy FOFCers. I always hoped Hoopsguy or someone would figure out the ideal way to play with priest type roles.

I'm inclined to agree with you. We _know_ which way NKs will count (for parity, at least--they could catch the sorc, hence my modQ). Lynches can run the gamut, though, so I think they're worth more information on the margin.

Then again, we might find that a very interesting day/night sequence makes it potentially rewarding to check the NK... But I'd lean toward the priest viewing daytime targets, I think.

My read on you last game was based on your reads of everyone else, and it served me well, or I got lucky, take your pick.

This is reminding me of a game I played recently where nobody talked, and the wolves won because we kept lynching our townies.

Agreed that both of these should really reveal at the right time. You take your knowledge with you when you die, unless...

Well, the sorceror not knowing who the wolves are makes things interesting. They're a wildcard - they could reveal earlier on as the seer trying to force a reveal, or have an interesting decision if they are alive and there's only 4 or 5 total people left. If no wolf deaths have been revealed, when do they reveal? I don't want to expand too much so as to give the sorceror too many ideas, but there's a higher chance of fake role reveals in this game than others, I'd say, since it's difficult to prove as death is usually the ultimate proof.

Plenty of risks to be taken - if the priest/seer hasn't revealed and it's late in the game, does a wolf take a risk and guess they are dead? Just lots of interesting choices I could see. Maybe the likeliest is that it remains quiet and we are at the behest of revealed info from the Priest/Seer .. but we'll see.

I feel pretty sure that while a wolf might use a RL absence as an excuse to not be around and post (I certainly have), I don't think a second wolf would use a first wolf's absence as an excuse not to vote the first wolf. That's too much! but I certainly do historically advocate for not lynching someone day one who isn't around to counter, so I'm happier with you or Chief just for that.

The thing with this is that the ONE person who can find out is the Priest. So it would be, in a sense, the best false claim to use to avoid a lynch. But it's a terribly powerful role to lose.

So.. After last night it is likely we are at 4/3. I'm guessing brit was not the sorcerer or a wolf, based on his behavior before the lynch.

The sorcerer counts as a villager for parity, so I guess we could say we are at 5/2 as long as the sorcerer doesn't know the identity of the wolves. In that case the sorcerer will not know who to vote with. So, if this is correct we are not at a must lynch situation today. If the sorcerer has figured out who the wolves are, then we are at a must lynch or we will lose to evil voting power tomorrow if we mislynch today.

This is reminding me of a game I played recently where nobody talked, and the wolves won because we kept lynching our townies.
