View Full Version : Interest in a FOFC CM4 League?

I've already talked this over with a few guys on here but I just wanted to guage the interest of having a small league being played with Championship Manager 4.

I'm enjoying the game now that EP3 has come and gone, and am comfortable enough with the game now to get something like this going.

I figure we can get 10 teams together to run a little MLS league. I'm usually available during the nights and sometimes during the day as well.

Oh well, this is just to guage the interest in starting something up like this. I'm not even sure hwo the internet play works exactly with CM4, so I may be in over my head.

I'd be interested... CM4 is really getting interesting.

Another thing would be using the swap team function in EP3 to create a super American League

(ie, the 10 best teams from Europe.. say the top two teams from England, Italy, Spain, Germany and France?)

In theory I'd be interested. In practice I'm not sure how well CM4 leads itself to such online play with that many people, but I haven't researched it signifigantly myself either. Does everyone have to be online? What happens if one person needs to spend a half hour looking over the transfer market... things like that need to be figured out, if we can come up with something realistic I'd love to give it a try.

I'd probably be interested in trying this out, I actually haven't played CM4 since EP3 came out, but I imagine soon I'll be diving back into it.

Just from what I've read though, the game doesn't appear to work all that well multi, it is a strange game to try and pull that off, but it's worth a shot.

I am interested as well, but have never played network games with CM.

If I had DSL, I'd love to play, but my 56k is slow enough as it is. :(

There is only 10 MLS teams, so we may have to throw in the A-League as well.

I call an MLS team! :D

Dola - What we could do is create say, a 24 team MLS if there is enough interest.

I'd be interested in sharing a team with somebody/group. Fact is, my work schedule doesn't allow me set "days" to play but I get a long ( 6 day ) weekend every three weeks. If somebody/group wants to get together and we split the online part around my schedule and collaborate on the signings etc, etc, I'd be interested. Otherwise, I'd be letting the group down. It's one of the reasons I don't do online sports :(

maybe, if it will work

I've done this a couple of times, I would try to keep the number down, so that you can move the game along. The game takes time in the first place, just imagine waiting for 5 to 6 people. Try it out in groups of 3 or 4 before you start.

How does the multiplayer aspect work? It would be nice if someone could just run a dedicated server, and people could logon whenever they wanted and play the days turn.

I'd be interested, but not until finals are over and my summer job situation is worked out.

Who here has already played CM online? Feel free to give the rest of us an idea of what we should expect. How does it work exactly? Once we find this out, then we can decide whether or not running a little league is a feasible idea or not.

In previous versions of CM it was impossible. All you could do was get on and play a match against a human opponent.

CM4 is suppose to imrpove this.

Oh yea and if we do get this thing up, I can assure you, I will win..... :D

I could set up a computer to run as a dedicated server. I have a cable modem. Im not sure how much bandwidth this would take but I wouldn't think it would be that much.

CM4 is suppose to improve this.

Actually, if you take a look at the SI site, there's a dynasty - the UCMS - about a twelve-person multiplayer game done way back on CM 00-01.

Yeah, I'm not sure what you are talking about Golden Eagle, with CM3 I played a few times on line.

Make sure everyone is on cable or DSL, it will make the game go faster.

Play with people who are as detail oriented or non-detail oriented as you. If you want to look thru teams and transfer things, and others don't, it's not going to be fun either waiting or getting shit from the others.

At least the host has to be on a fast line. I hosted an experimental game with a couple of FOFC guys and CM3 last year.

I used to play online with 3-4 people.. back with cm 01-02 and cm 00-01

Problem we had was one of our normal group TOOK AGES to start.. he would literally try to sign 150 people :)

Anybody want to try a little test run tonight? I've set up a test game with just MLS and the A-league running.

Post here or message me on AIM at wilco1head if you're interested.

My server IP is 68.84.170.56
Server name: FOFC

Sloan

I'll be here all night. I set it up on a spare computer so it could run forever in theory.

P4 1.7 GHz
256 MB RAM (soon to be 512)
MLS, A-league
Medium Database
Cable modem

Hopefully that will be enough for acceptable speeds.

Not sure, I am curious myself
