I've done every kind of dynasty it seems over the years, but one of my favs in the "modern" era was my women's college basketball coaching dynasty with fictional Nebraska State. (http://www.operationsports.com/fofc/showthread.php?t=83925)

Well I've rebooted my women's league install with a new league (that feeds into the WNBA, actually..) that is now in the year 1991.

I want to take over the University of Wyoming and turn them into a women's basketball power. The game only generates like one Wyoming player per year, so we'll have to generate more prospects but in general, the actual team roster draws almost entirely from the west (http://www.gowyo.com/sports/w-baskbl/mtt/wyo-w-baskbl-mtt.html) at the moment. In the past they've done well recruiting foreign players too.

Anyway, we'll see how it goes.

Team is currently rated a 45 and plays in the Mountain West Conference.

I hired a new head coach in the form of former UCLA assistant Chana Bobcock. Since she had roots in the region, I figured she had a good pedigree for us to work with.

Here's the current roster:

http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc113/Dynasty_DC/Screen%20Shot%202015-05-30%20at%2011.59.58%20AM_zpsgycru73x.png (http://s218.photobucket.com/user/Dynasty_DC/media/Screen%20Shot%202015-05-30%20at%2011.59.58%20AM_zpsgycru73x.png.html)

I changed the colors in my game years ago because I couldn't really remember what was what. From best to worst: Black, Gray, Blue, Pink, White.

The roster looks pretty much like a normal Wyoming team in terms of where we're drawing players from at the moment. I don't intend to dramatically alter that save for the occasional foreign player if we're fortunate.

Not a surprise that the first year was terrible, the cupboard was bare and we weren't really working with much. I just ran through and got us to the end of the season.

This guy did the main work for us. You have to edit the first name files to be female names, though I have noticed a few dude names have slipped in occasionally, so you can prune his work if you feel like it, tho I haven't recently.

Anyway...you change the first name files, modify your height.ini file and then start a new game and go to town.

You should save the old files in a separate folder (I have one called men) and save the old height.ini file too because if you don't, you'd lose them completely.

Then you start your game and all of the players generated will be female. Obviously everything in-game still references male pronouns but that's minor.

For the pro game, I used the same files -- with some other ones I've made on my own a long time ago when I first got this idea -- to edit that version and allows me to have a WNBA for these players to play in, too. One of these days I'll upload those files.

So that 8-24 season stunk last year, but the bright side I guess is all 8 wins were in conference play. We should surely be better this year. We'll do the season-by-season recaps like I did before and if there's anything to call out I'll do it.

Recruiting will be dull for a while, but I'll highlight who we're bringing in for future classes with this upcoming season.

The team was a lot better this year, which I wasn't necessarily anticipating but was glad to see.

We lost our head coach and coaching staff. The head coach headed to USC and the assistants left for other jobs. So now we need to find a new head coach to run the program after just two years, but at least the cupboard isn't totally bare and in theory, we should be able to build on what we've got foundationwise.

In theory.

We hired former Auburn head coach Isabella Castro after she was fired for going 16-43 there, but my thinking is she's a good recruiter and that she'll do better in the Mountain West.

Stella Evensen will leave us this year and go pro, but the JUCO transfer from Norway literally blacked out and went nuts this year and that explains this result. I think our new coach paid dividends too. But NO ONE saw THIS season coming from this team.

FINAL FOUR: TEXAS, UCLA, XAVIER, SYRACUSE.
Despite being power teams, Texas, Xavier and Syracuse hadn't been to Final Fours before. (Syracuse had in the 3rd season of this league) while UCLA is two years removed from losing the national title game.

Xavier beat them for their first title.

Isabella Castro is National Coach of the Year and I'm tempted to do to her what Florida Gulf Coast's coach did after their crazy run and send her to a better program rather than bringing her back for another year and forcing us to figure out what to do with a 3rd coach in 3 years.

Kind of sad, but it happens. We do have a scholarship left over and so, hopefully we can entice a transfer to come over and play with us and help immediately -- like an actual good one. We'll see.

1994 OFFSEASON
Wyoming coach Isabella Castro leaves the program after just one year. She was wooed for double her salary to join St. Joe's in Philly, a program that's been to the WNIT three straight years but can't quite get back to the tournament after making the Elite 8 for years ago in a fluke. NC State who have missed the tournament 4 straight years also pursued her, but the St. Joe's job had a bit more upside.

So now for the 3rd straight year, Wyoming has to find a new women's basketball coach.

I think the fan favorite is Adeline Cloud because she's a Wyoming native (from Lusk) and I did not expect to run into that when I was searching for candidates (basically the top assistants without jobs who had experience...or who I thought might be a good cultural fit.)

There's a pretty loud contingent who want Ackerman because she's young and can relate to players, grow with us and she's from North Dakota so she can understand how to recruit here.

Mundy has a career winning record and has had success before, so she's got some interest too. So not sure who our choice will be, but will report back after the off-season ends to let you know who.

This is cool and definitely a fairly unique concept. It also catches my eye because for whatever reason, I keep reading the title as 'Just a Bunch of Cowards', then doing a double-take.

I'd go with Kamryn McLeod. She can recruit enough, but if she doesn't recruit well, can develop players to put the program in a position to win.

LOL @ Brian Swartz.

Wyoming ended hiring the Wyoming native in Adeline Cloud as head coach, it was the most Wyoming thing to do and hard to resist.

They also managed to hire Eliza Ackerman as an assistant too, with the eye on her being the future of the program potentially.

The program lucked out getting two transfers, Zoe Scheffer transferred from Texas and Emily Mix, a California native came from Boise State where coach Cloud was before she came to us.

Scheffer was part of a heralded recruiting class at Texas, but got no PT and somehow they managed to get her in tow to replace the lost Stella Evensen who powered the team last year to a surprise Sweet 16 run.

The team had another excellent year and seemed to have arrived as a Mountain West basketball ascendent after years in obscurity, claiming a 2nd straight conference title.

But the ladies pulled it out and head to the Elite 8 for the first time in program history! Their prize? A date with regional rival Colorado. The Buffs are making their 6th straight NCAA appearance and the only other time they made it to the Elite 8 was in 1987 en route to the Final Four appearance in which they lost.

The joke with Colorado is their star player is a Wyoming native, the only legit 4-star recruit to come out of the state since I started playing this version of the league and another quality contributor is also a Wyoming native. So it's funny when we play them because I note "they're just beating us with our own kids."

Wyoming played CU earlier this year and lost 77-69 in Laramie, just a few days after knocking off then #2 Michigan State in a surprise. This game is not a good matchup and I think everyone wants to beat them, but was secretly hoping they'd be upset.

There you see why. Outmanned and outgunned, as CU heads to the Final Four for the 2nd time in program history. Still a historic year for the Cowgirls as they make the Elite 8 and with the best recruiting class (albeit just two players) in history makes its appearance this upcoming year, one has to be confident about the prospects for the program given the star players aren't eligible to leave yet. (Sheffler, Mix)

The Final Four was: 1) Pittsburgh 1) South Florida 2) Colorado 5) Georgetown. South Florida knocked off Colorado 89-84 in the Final. It was their first championship ever and their 1st Final Four.

Zoe Scheffler was a Third-Team All American, the first time that's ever happened for this program at any level. Coach Cloud was National Coach of the Year, the 2nd straight year Wyoming has had the national coach of the year, because no one is more surprised than we are about all of this craziness.

I don't think Cloud will leave after one year, however, mostly because of the Wyoming ties and she was just at Boise State and is a bit older.

The recruiting class includes Leah Golla, who was Miss Basketball for Colorado this past year and an All-American, our first HS one ever. The coup felt nice after years of CU stealing Wyoming's best talent provided any existed.

#13 WYOMING COWGIRLS Recruiting

Name Pos Ht Wt Rating Interest State
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Leah Golla PG 5-7 163 **** Committed Colorado
Caroline Maury PG 5-8 157 **** Committed New Jersey

Caroline Maury is a funnier deal because she didn't have any offers at one point, we came in on her late because the scout seemed to think she has a lot of potential. St. Joe's which took our coach was actually on her too at the same time along with three other programs and somehow, she chose us. Not sure why, but it pretty funny to imagine a coach going east and being irate that we came from that far to nab a recruit in their backyard.

So at this point, the training wheels are off and this program has actual expectations.

OTHER NOTES
- Turned off eligibility for players to leave early. Now they have to stay all 4 years.
- Added a 3rd tournament (WBI) to the post-season roster.

The recruits my game was generating were sooo bad because I had the FBCB.ini file depressed pretty low to generate pretty terrible players. I've modified this, so starting next year we're going to get much better players coming out as a result which should make recruiting more interesting for me.

Adeline Cloud left the program after leading the program to the NCAAs for two straight years and took the job at Oregon.

We had to hire elsewhere and took Tennessee's top assistant when she didn't end up getting promoted after their longtime coach retired. She has a career losing record, but we think she's the right fit for us.

I'm still wrestling with what to do with this though. I didn't really meant to replicate the whole "team is bad, now team is good, now team wins all the time" formula that is frankly, not all that fun to read or play out. I'm trying to decide whether I want to follow a coach or follow a player or figure out what kind of program to follow that'll make me want to write about and share with you.

Team lost in the Sweet 16 against an upstart Seton Hall team.

The Final Four:

11th seed Oklahoma (first Final Four)
1 seed Tennessee (6th)
6 seed TCU (2nd)
3 seed Maryland (1st)

Tennessee claimed their 3rd championship by knocking off cinderella club Oklahoma in the national championship, giving their new head coach Zoe Schnee her first-ever national title.

Given that Wyoming only got our coach because she was the top assistant at Tennessee and wanted to get promoted but wasn't, this seems to validate the move that the program made to bring in an established coach to take them to their back-to-back titles.

I'm still kicking around what I want to do with this story, though. I know the teams enough aren't all that interesting. Either going to focus on a player or a conference. Not sure yet.
