I was once taken and put in a cop car for public drunkenness/ violation of curfew but I was never booked or taken to the station so I don't think it counts as an arrest. Since then I have realized the error of my ways and learned how not to get caught. (Cops=Lazy=RUN!)

No, but I've had a warrant out for my arrest. Funny story, actually...I was pulled over while riding my bike on the wrong side of the road. For those of you that don't know Santa Barbara, there are thousands of bikes here...to get pulled over by a cop while you're riding your bike is an embarrasing thing, to say the least. It's also quite retarded, and a sure sign of an asshole cop, as there are literally thousands of bike infractions per day here.
Well, I'm running late to work, haven't been having a good day in general, and I make a left turn onto a little side street, and end up on the left side of the road. I realize that, cruise over to the right side, and keep going for a little while. About a minute later, I hear a cop blare his siren from about five feet behind me, scaring the crap out of me, and almost knocking me off my bike. I look around, notice that there isn't anyone else that he could possibly be pulling over except for me. Well, in an absolutely fabulous mood, I take the ticket, continue on to work, etc. I send in my check for the $30 dollar bike ticket, and forget about it. It's a pain in the ass, but whatever. Well, a while later (a couple of months) I'm back home, visiting my family, and I start going through my mail. And I notice that I have a suspiciously large amount of mail labeled "Santa Barbara County Courthouse." I open them, and they're all to notify me of my late bike ticket. Uncomprehending, because I sent in the check a while back, I call up the courthouse as soon as I get back to SB. "Yeah, we have no record of any check from you, Mr. Cressio. We do, however, have a warrant out for your arrest because of a delinquent moving violation." Are you kidding me? For riding my bike on the wrong side of the road, I've now got a warrant out for my arrest.
So I drive up to the courthouse to attempt to straighten things out. There was definitely a warrant out for my arrest, and it was to the tune of $280 that I could remove it. I asked them what the process was for fighting this grave injustice, and I had to show up at Court at 7 AM on some Wednesday in two weeks. When I asked them what happened to the warrant in that time, they said it remained, so that if I was pulled over, it would be at the cop's discretion to arrest me or not (which means basically I would be screwed). Since my job at the time was food delivery, and getting arrested while on the job wasn't a good idea, I ended up forking over the $280, and calling it a rape job. Horrible, horrible experience. Now that it's over, though, it makes for a pretty good story.

I got a citation for Underage Drinking in college. Myself and 150 others at a frat party. I fought it because the cops ran out of tubes for the breathalizer and made us blow through used tubes. Well needless to say the cop lied his ass off in court and i was found guilty. When I was leaving court and getting into my car I said to the cop "I hope you feel good about lying in court, makes me feel safe." The cops just smiled and laughed. Then said have a nice day. Fuckin prick.

Well, considering that a speeding ticket technically is an arrest -- yes. When a cop pulls over, he/she is detaining you. When he cites you, he is releasing you on your own recognizance with a notice to appear or pay the fine. Failure to appear or pay can result in actually being jailed.

I saw a statistic a few years ago that something like 1 in 4 people have been arrested. In a room of eight co-workers, I said this has got to be wrong and asked everybody who had been arrested to raise their hand. To my stunning surprise three hands went up.
1) Borderline hippie woman was arrested during a protest. Surprise.
2) Guy and his friend were driving behind a movie theater, saw some punk kid dumping the theater's trash and decided to scare the hell of out him by waving a plastic gun out the window and yelling at him. Kid goes inside, calls cop, comedy ensues.
3) Guy got a ticket, forgot to pay it, got arrested when stopped for another ticket. He was going to have some buddies bail him out, but some of the "vets" in the "hole" told him if we waited until morning, the judge would release him on his own recognizance and it wouldn't cost him a dime. So he spent the night in jail with his eyes wide open.
No, I wasn't one of the three. :)

so, I've been to jail 3 seperate times - anyone surprised that I'm the "heavy" of the board based on the responses so far?
I also win the prize for the WORST possible time to be arrested - 5 pm on Christmas Eve; definitely one of the low points of my life.

I once got to sit in a police car in front of my house (in the suburbs) for the horrible crime of walking at night! Apparently, some idiots were getting drunk in the new subdivision behind us, and the cops thought I was a drunken straggler. Nope. I just had a headache, and had gone out for some fresh air. Ended up not helping my headache very much. :(

How about this little story...my friends and i will never let poor old jim live this one down...you wouldn't either.
Jim is 17, but thinks its a good night to go get entirely wasted. This takes him all of about 20 minutes. Since it was his birthday, he decided to celebrate on his own terms. He drives around and finds a hooker and pays her to get into the car and "work with him"...he then calls my friends and (we were at the movies), and says he wants to come say hi...we wait for awhile when he pulls up, but he is driving all over the road...suddenly his car just goes straight into a parked car on the side of the road without even an attempt to pull over...well...that car was a cop car with 4 cops in it all drinking hot cocoa...they all get out flipping out because their laps are burning....they yell at him to get out and he says he cant...they go up to the car, and to my suprise back up quickly...then from the passenger side steps a man dressed like a girl!!! He was too drunk to know the difference, and he hit the car as this guy was giving him a bj!!!! This was too priceless!! The cops decided the humiliation of having a guy blow him was bad enough for most of it, so they gave him a speeding ticket so his parents wouldnt know...we never have let him down for that one!!

welll then, I guess its my turn. btw im not proud of this, and it was incredibly stupid in my part, I was a complete and total dumbass to get caught.
during march of this year, I was arrested for unauthorized computer access, (AKA hacking) basically I hacked into various state of hawaii goverment emails. mayor/governor/others who i wont say. anyway, I did all this with a laptop at various locations not to get caught, but one day, I was an idiot, and logged in from the school pc lab, which yep they traced it back to my name, and so I got called down to the police station, charged with the class C felony, and now i am facing a maximum of 5 years in a federal penetentary. anyway, this is where the story gets freaky, after this, I was supposed to go check in with the cops once a week, yea did this for about 2 weeks, until there was no more info to give or for them to get out of me. So I stopped going, hell if they needed to contact me, they could call or email or whatever. about a week after I stopped going down there, I swear to god I started noticing 2 people pretty much everywhere I went, and have been going, now it could be im just a paranoid idiot, or are these damn people with the police/government. ok they are always in the cafeteria when I am eating lunch, they are always just "around" when I'm walking to my classes, they are at walmart when I go there, they are at the beach when I go there, and they are in the library when I go there. It's so damn scary to me, are they just trying to scare me out of doing this type of thing again, o what? I am damn sure that i wont be doing this again, this has caused hell in my life for the last 2 months. I definetly learned my lesson already, yet im still facing charges and possible prison time, no court date yet tho...so yea I've been arrested, and I'm a walking freakin coma, everywhere I go I have no privacy. what a great life.
lol i still play FOF tho, peace guys...

Oh lord, I hope my brother doesn't check this site (I e-mailed him a link a week or two ago)...
Man, this is gonna be long.
A little over a year ago on Saint Patty's day, my roommate and I decided to have a party at out apartment. Well, after quite a few Black and Tan's and several shots, me, a couple of guys I worked with, and a chick I worked with decided to go explore the new apartment complex that was being built next door to our apartment. So we went into the new complex, worked our way up to the third floor, and then one of the guys (who had also been smoking something that was slightly illegal) decided that it would be cool to throw some boards that were being used for studs through the windows that had just been installed.
Well, there were some cops in our complex (there apparently had been a sexual assault that night) and they heard the windows breaking. So they came to the new complex to hunt us down. Well, the guy who was breaking the windows (we'll just call him JJ) saw the cops before the rest of us and took off. The other guy, the chick, and I were still screwing around, climbing around through the rafters, having a good time when all of a sudden the other guy noticed a cop car parked outside the building. So we call for JJ (we didn't know that he had already taken off), and start to work our way down towards the ground floor. The three of us get down to the ground floor, notice that the cops are down at the other end of the building, and decide to make a run for it towards my apartment.
Well, at the count of three, the other guy and me start to run through an open field toward my apartment, but the chick freezes and doesn't run. The other guy and I run, when all of a sudden we hear, "Stop, Denton Police!!!" The other guy keep running, but at a sixty degree angle from where I'm going. I realize that the gig is up, so I stop running and start walking across the field, waiting for the strong arm of the law to grab me on the shoulder. The funny thing, however, is that the cops chase after the other guy and leave me along.
I cross the open field and go up a flight of stairs in a nearby stairwell in my complex. I sat down on the second floor landing, and decided to wait for the cops to come and get me. Well, I waited there for about four hours, and they never come. So around 6am I decided to go home. Luckily (or is it unluckily?) my girlfriend stayed at my apartment that. She opened the door when I knocked on it, and she proceeded to tell me the story of what had happened that night at the apartment.
Well, you may remember that JJ took off before the rest of us without letting us know that they cops were around. Well, he ran straight for my apartment, and proceeded to jump into my bed with my girlfriend, telling her that no matter what happened, he had been there all night. Problem was, he had left the door to the apartment ajar, do the cops who saw him run were able to come right into the apartment. Both my roommates were handcuffed and questioned (neither of them knew what was going on). They questioned my girlfriend, and she ratted out JJ the first chance she got (Hell YEAH!!!). My girlfriend had no idea what was going on. As a matter of fact, she thought that someone had fallen off the roof of the apartement (which was a popular hang-out for the stoners in the building). JJ didn't talk, as far as I can tell, so everything should have been OK. The problem was, the girl who was with us and didn't run got caught. And she talked. Boy, did she ever talk.
Anyways, she told the cops who was with her, so after I got home at 6am, the cops came knocking on my door at noon. I got arrested, spent a good 18 hours in jail, had to go to court, spent a year on probation, spent a good $1600 combined on probation fees, court costs, and restitution. I just got off of probation at the end of April, and it feels great. It's amazing. I hardly ever go out anymore, I don't do stupid shit anymore, and it's all because I spent 18 hours in jail. It was the most boring, the most heart wrenching, the most frightening 18 hours of my life.
And my family knows nothing of this. Thank god for roommates who can afford bail money...

It's part of it, Schmidty. Actually the primary reasons I take the bus is a combination of finances and personal preference. The finances just come from having a shitty job and given how much it costs to have a car in California. The personal preferences is once again related to the costs of driving versus having all of that money (that would otherwise be spent on car payments, insurance, vehicle registration, maintenance and gas) that I basically get to keep for other things.
You know, did you ever notice just how much damn money it costs to keep a car and be able to drive it? I just reached a point where I decided it wasn't worth it, at least not at this point in my life. Also, having had a DUI, I was having to jump through some serious hoops by the DMV just to keep my license, and insurance was phenomenally high. Basically, they seriously try to screw you out here in California if you want to drive and you have made any mistakes whatsoever, and I have long felt that the idiocy of the beuracracy and the greediness of the insurance lobbies in Sacramento have way outweighed what I should need to do to be able to drive. So I decided to say fuck it and let it go. I give up a lot of time convenience and easy mobility, but I save myself upwards of a $800-$1000 a month.
BTW, I continued driving for two years after getting the DUI, so it wasn't a got a DUI then quit driving thing. The DUI problems were merely one part of a whole list of things that worked into my overall dissatisfaction with the process of being a legal driver in California.
Sorry for the long response. This is obviously a bone of contention with me. I personally think the insurance lobby in Sacramento should be hung until dead and then drawn and quartered. And the inane moronic individuals who run the DMV shortly thereafter.

Pulled over while driving twice in Sweden and once in the US but never been booked or arrested.
The incident in the US is actually quite funny. Me and two co-workers were in a car coming from the southeast toward the Fort Pitt tunnel, and the morning traffic was dense (as usual), reducing all movement to a crawl.
We were in the left lane, 500 yards before the tunnel, when a state trooper stops us and motions us over. Turns out our rental car had an expired registration sticker. While the officer was confirming the details the traffic continued to crawl past us, one inch at a time. Then this big red truck comes up alongside us, and the driver motions to us to lower the window.
With a big grin on his face, he says: "Don't tell me you got stopped for speeding!" :)
That got a big laugh out of us all, and totally made our day...

Never. And considering the hassle I had when applying to the Florida Bar about a speeding ticket I never got, it's a damn good thing.
I once got pulled over for speeding in South Carolina with a Georgia driver's license and a Florida tag on my car, but to my surprise, I escaped even a ticket.
I also got picked up and "placed" (I'd call it thrown) against the wall of a Turtles record store by a cop while waiting in line for concert tickets. We were first in line, and there were at least 300 other people there, and when the store manager tried to open the front door, she set off the store alarm. As she went around back to shut it off, the cops showed up, apparently responding to the alarm. In front of 300 people, this old, redneck cop with a mouthful of chaw came up to me, grabbed me, threw me against the wall, and started yelling at me, "You tryin' to break into the store, son? You tryin' a git in before it open?"
I was like 15 or 16 at the time, so I just shook my head and didn't say a thing. But I wanted so damn badly to yell back, "Yeah, I thought I'd be able to slip in and steal some stuff while my 300 friends played look-out for the cops, you fucking moron." I thought about reporting him, but then I figured I'd have a cop on my tail wherever I drove for the next 5 years.
I also remember one time when my parents went on vacation, my dad let me drive his Fiero GT (I loved that car!). So I take it out one Saturday night just to drive around, blaring loud music, and I stop at a red light where two cops are parked at a gas station. And I notice that they're both getting in their cars, so as I start driving, I keep looking in my rear-view mirror, and sure enough, there they are. So I stayed right on the speed limit, turned down the radio, and drove them to the police station parking lot, did a circle, pretended like I was looking for something, and drove off. They stopped following me after that! If there had been a Dunkin' Donuts in town, I would have driven them there.

My brother related this story to me.
He was down in Panama City Beach, FL, and his friend got busted for letting off a fire extinguisher in a hotel hallway. Still not certain if it was HIS hotel or not, but who knows.
Regardless, they go to bail him out. Apparently sitting in the same room as they are, is a man in cuffs, talking to an officer. The man says, non-chalantly and with the aide of a friend (who was also in cuffs).
"Yeah, I was out front of the Show-N-Tail there, and some guys started talkin' some trash, so I shot four of them, I think four."
Friend chimes in with, "Yeah man, it was like BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM..."
My brother decided that jail was not a place he wanted to be.

You were a guard.
Good try, but nope.
It's actually two things:
1. I did quite a bit of work with a number of Sheriff's Departments, so I spent a lot of time in jail then.
2. I have spent a substantial amount of time in jail unwillingly. Leave it at that. :)

I came very close to getting arrested in Italy while on vacation because of a bad change machine at a laundromat. I didn't react well when the machine ate my bill without giving change. Fortunately (although I was so mad I didn't see it this way at the time) the owner didn't press charges on me.

Been pulled-over a few times and questioned quite a bit in my teenage years (rough neighborhood), but never actually arrested. Not that I haven't done anything illegal, just never been caught. ;)

Why didn't any one who got arrested, post their expierence on THIS board, after it happened. People seem pretty open and forthgoing in their postings...

Almost was arrested once. Back in 95, when the Mariners made their run at the Angels, and everyone in this city jumped on the bandwagon, I became like the character in Major League 2, who hates the team, and hates everything about them (Funny, still am). So, one night, when Vince Coleman wasn't throwing fireworks at small children, he decided to hit a grand slam to put the Mariners up over the A's, I do believe. I went off, ballistic, screaming, cursing, throwing stuff around. Mind you, I was in a house at the time. I guess I was so loud, that the neighbors thought I was beating up someone, and called the police over. Imagine my suprise, when I'm on the phone, talking to my friend about the game (he didn't have a TV then, lucky bastard), when I hear a knock on the screendoor, and the fine Marysville Police Department police officers (both of them) came in with guns drawn, and searched the house top to bottom looking for the person I was beating up and killing. That raised me up into the pantheon of great sports fans to my friend, because of my ability to lose all control and start screaming at something I didn't even care about. Luckily, the cops just told me to keep it down. Not like prison in Marysville is anything. Picture Mayberry

Dola...
Got arrested in late 93 after the Rockets had won like their 16th game in a row. My friend and I had been smoking all night but after the game was over we decided to "go out" and smoke some more to celebrate the run.
In a town with less than 600 people I got busted with less than a joint's worth of pot by 5 cops, the local constable, a recruit, and a K-9 unit. It was my fault that they eventually busted me because I had left an empty one-hitter on the front seat of my truck (the 350 lb recruit found it with his flashlight... he didn't have a gun thank god).
At the time of my arrest I was a total stoner, meaning I had not washed or cleaned up my truck in a couple of years. When the K-9 unit showed up , I was laughing at them because they had to dig through my pig-sty of a vehicle. When the dog-handler made his way over to find out what I thought was funny he gave me the standard "tell us if there is anything else in the vehicle, and we will be more lenient speech".
So I told him that I had lost a one-hitter just like the one they found about a year earlier and had been unable to locate it.
After he tossed the vehicle he walked by the cruiser I was being held in with the afformentioned one-hitter in his hand and said "I found it" and smiled at me.
My reply was "Good, because I was afraid the cops were going to find it one day".
I am married with children and I no longer practice any of these activities (that much) but it was a learning experience.

I have been caught stealing (cigars, wasn't 18 yet) but nothing really happened besides getting written up, parents picking me up, and court never came. However, I have ran from the cops 3 times from a party where I was on my way to getting hammered - most recently, 3 or 4 days ago this happened, easiest run from the cops I've ever had, but I was also the most drunk I've been running. I lost a shoe and dropped my cell phone.

I see one of two things happened.
The first is that you had an incident where you were inspecting the prison windows, got knocked out by another inmate, your keys stolen, and locked inside. You were forced to survive on rats and rainwater until one day the Sheriff found you there and let you out and do whatever you wanted in town (like kill a guy he didn't like) in exchange for not suing him.
Or you just didn't like your job that involved installing prison doors or the like. But that's not really unwillingly because you did get paid so you were working quasi-voluntarily and I prefer the first because it makes a better story ;)

Twice---1st time was an error of judge on the cops part
The 2nd time was a serious error of judgement on my part and I paid dearly for it!

If you mean that I had my rights read to me, I have.
During my F-man year in college, I was accused of stealing gas.
I went to a really small school in an even smaller town in Iowa. I was driving a Laosian (sp) girls car, and a white, black, and a Mexican guy were with us too. Since there was to much to do, we ended up going to the white guy's HS to watch a FB game.
The way there, we has very little gas. So we stopped in town to get gas before the game. I stopped, and we spent 10 minutes arguing over how much each of us would contribute. While we were talking about it, I happened to notice how much was on the pump before I started. (For the sake of it, it was $20.44)
I ended up pumping $5, and I walked in. The lady behind the counter was busy talking to another lady who was holding a baby. I waited a moment to get her attention, and when it was apparent that she was not interested in working, I said, "This is for pump 7, $5, and walked out,
We went to the game for 2 hours, and drove back to campus. There was a cop waiting. He questioned me, and during it, asked me three times "There was a black, an asian, and a Mexican with you, right?"
I was scared, and he really was not listening. He probably thought along with my seemingly unsavory company, I must be guilty because I was studdering all over the place.
He read me my rights, and drove me up to the gas station for further questioning.
We get there, and the woman denied everything. Since I was there waiting to pay her for a moment, I could discribe the woman, and she was holding a boy. She continued to say "You stole that gas." The cop continued to ask me "You were with a Black, an Asian, and a Mexican".
Finally, I remembered to mention that the person before me pumped $20.44. I stated that if I was telling the truth, you should see $20.44, then $5 on pump 7. The lady then said, "there was no way I can check that" Even though this was is small town Iowa, it was a fairly new gas station. Even in 1991, a fair amount of their equipment was computerized. It was clearly the nicest gas station in that shit hole.
Deputy Dan came at that time, and the first cop walked off to talk to him. It really appeared that they were ready to haul me in. Moments later, the owner arrived.
For the moment the owner walked in, she took one look at the frantic woman who was trying to railroad me, and simply started doubting her. We both run through it again, and I state my case AGAIN. The cops again ask me the same question. . .
Finally, the owner listens to me. She exclaims to the woman "You know how to do this, you just pull the tape, it's even time stamped." In seconds, the evidence was there confirming my story.
Looking back, I wish I would have done more about it, but really, I was happy it was over. Since my parents were coming up the next day, I was just glad I did not have to call them and say "while you are coming up, could you bring a lawyer?"
The owner and the cops apoligized. The cop was rrreeeaaallllyyyy nice and went to buy me a Coke, and the owner just gave it away. What a guesture.

I fail to see what the cops really did wrong there. I mean, sure it sucks to be questioned, but it's not like they threw you in the slammer. Yes, you should have had a lawyer present, but this is small town Iowa and haven't you ever seen any cop shows. Sorry to sound non-sympathetic. But I get tired of all of these "cops are evil" and "I should sue everyone" type stories I always see when people are just doing their job.

Twice. Once for falsifying an ID (mine) the other was a misunderstanding that I took probation for (it was easier than explining what I was doing with certain things) that was the fun one. 3 cop cars flying up on me with cops running out, guns drawn "ON THE GROUND, NOW!!!" It wasn't even me they were looking for...
