My ebay account was hacked

Anyone else go through this? I just got a bill in the collection agency today saying I owed ebay nearly $600 and the debt was associated with an ebay account which I haven't used for years. The account itself was associated with an email address I haven't used for years except for maybe a spam account. I just spent an hour on the phone with ebay but all that came of that was to just email them.

Any advice on how to proceed forward with getting this debt eliminated?
