View Full Version : Laptop Shuts Down

Hey guys, I haven't been here in a while because of this issue.

Every time I boot my laptop, it automatically turns itself off within 15 minutes. It then won't even start back up for a couple of hours.

I don't think this is a fan issue, as it never feels hot. Are there any checks I can to see if it's an internal issue?

Are you just on battery, or plugged in with an adapter? My guess is something power-related. The battery might be weak, and/or your adapter isn't putting out enough juice to charge the battery and keep the laptop running.

First thought is heat related. Try downloading realtemp (http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/) and see if anything weird shows up.

I'd also look at the battery. When there are issues there it can cause funky things to happen. Can you try removing the battery and running it off AC power and see if it happens? Even if it is always plugged in having a bad battery in the system can cause issues.

The only times where I have ever had my computers freak out on me with issues like this it has always been 1) heat related 2) RAM went bad or3) hard drive went bad.

I think heat related or motherboard.

Doesn't sound like a HD to me. If it was RAM, it would probably reboot but not shut down.

Def run that temp monitor program thing. If the cpu fan isn't working I'd imagine a quick shut down.

I unplugged from the adapter and I've got it up and running on battery only right now. I've been loaded up since 11 AM, that is 17 minutes. That is a solid.

It shut itself off at 11:39, so I got 39 minutes. Later on I will do the opposite and pull the battery and leave the adapter plugged in.

What make is the pc?

Even though it doesn't seem hot.. sure points to a cooling issue. If you have some mechanical skills, I would take out the fan and clean it and the heatsink with canned air. (do not take the heat sink out, just the fan)

Ok, I would start with canned air and clean out of the cpu fan. Blowing into the pc typically doesn't work.. you'll need to google the pc and see if there is a video showing how to remove the fan so you can clean it out.
