The only rule:

The river must have the majority of it's length, but not necessarily all, in the U.S.

Mississippi River
Colorado River
Hudson River
Delaware River

Mississippi, Colorado, Hudson, Rio Grande.

Tough to leave out Ohio, Missouri, anything in the Southeast ...

Wow. No love for the Ohio. The French and Indian War was fought primarily over the control over the Forks of the Ohio. It helped lead the western expansion into new territory following the war. It's still a major trade route through the midwest. Other than the Mississippi, I can't think of a more influential river.

My list:

Mississippi
Ohio
Missouri
Colorado

Is it okay to find it hilarious, that your River MRs could double as a state MR ? ;)Idk... I don't think a whole lot of people outside it would put Mississippi on their Mt. Rushmore of states.

In theory ;) Just never occurred to me how much overlap there is :)

In theory ;) Just never occurred to me how much overlap there is :)Yeah, the #1 river from New England would be the Connecticut River. Which is a little amusing since the majority of it is in New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts, but I guess the river was named (a.k.a. misspelled from the Indian name for it) before the colony/state of Connecticut was founded, so the state was actually named after the river rather than what you would assume.

Mississippi (Missouri is off the hook because Mississippi drains it)
Colorado
Columbia
Yukon

So you have the major rivers of central and SE US, SW US, NW US, and of Alaska.

Any river that has one of my shoes, and a loaf of my poop in it does not belong on this list. Sorry Delaware.

As someone who loves to canoe, kayak, and whitewater raft, my Mt. Rushmore of rivers would be very different than yours and would include the

New River is my clear #1, and then it varies from there by your personal preference

There are places where the Colorado is really good. The Arkansas. There's a couple near Seward Alaska that are prime, etc.

The New is great for that stuff. When I worked summers in NC there was always a trip to the New.
