Yesterday we found this bird in our manure pit struggling and unable to get out. One of my employees grabbed a hand rake and offered the bird the handle and it was amazingly smart enough to latch on with it's feet and allowed us to pull it out. We gave it a bath and I realized that it was a juvenile bald eagle. So we got a hold of our Dept. of Natural Resources warden who came and crated it and the bird is now on the way to a rehab facility where it will hopefully make a full recovery.

Never a dull day on the farm!

Thems some good eatin'.

$250,000 fine and two years in prison would make that quite the expensive meal :)

My Dad used to work for the Raptor Rescue center in NC before my Mom got sick. Here are pictures from a red-tailed hawk rescue.

That really is cool lungs. Hopefully on the way to a full recovery.

Great pics Kodos. Very heartwarming to see the hawk go from looking to so helpless to puffing up in his full glory and flying away.

Yep. I think that is one of Dad's proudest moments. That was a tough rescue, and his legs aren't in the best shape. But he did it.

And Mom took the pictures.

On the red tailed hawk rescue. I knew this guy who has since passed away. He was a naturalist of sorts, and a big time marksman with bows as well as rifles, and handguns. He was a sniper during the Vietnam war, but I believe he brought his skills to that assignment.

He once shared a story of how he saw this red tailed hawk on his property one day, and that it had a length of twine or leather around its leg. He figured that it was only a matter of time before that was going to be the end of that hawk. He like having the hawks around his property, and didn't want to see this one meet its demise in that manner.

So, he says, I went to grab my rifle and worked my way as close to where he was perched in a tree as possible. I was pretty incredulous, but then he went on to describe shooting the tether off a couple of inches away from the bird's foot. "Scared 'im pretty good, but he flew away looking just fine".
