How early to show up for a wedding?

Before everyone says get there at 1pm, can I make a reasonable case for 1:15 or even 1:30?

Just don't be late. Like everyone says 1:45 is fine. I've never been to one that is ready to go at the listed time anyway, but it will look shitty if you are rushing in close to the start time

I thought this was going to be something like: "it's called for 2, but I'm guessing it won't actually start until closer to 2:30. Can I show up at 2:15?"

My guess is you were way, WAY in the clear compared to most guests by "settling" for a 1:30 arrival.

The last wedding I went to was scheduled at 5. I got there at like 4:58 thinking it wouldn't start till 5:15 anyway. It started at exactly 5. Most everyone had gotten there too and I was in the back during the ceremony which was fine.

So I would say at least 15 minutes early in case their start time really means their start time.

A few years back, I went to a wedding of a family member that was a dry reception. The bad part is that this was never mentioned until we got to the reception. My brother and I both thought this was completely ridiculous, so we decided to make a liquor run. Word got out, and pretty soon everyone was coming over to give us their requests.

We recruited a couple of people, and we smuggled everything in a bottle or two at a time and hid them under our table. It didn't take long before our table was the most popular table in the place.

In the end, it was one of the most fun weddings we've attended. Although the bride's family was pretty ticked off about it.
