If you could only play one existing videogame for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I think I'd have to go NCAA 2014. Two years later, and it still gets 90% of my gaming time. (Sadly, I find myself kicking around starting a 4th OD with current rosters.)

Just one? Doh! OOTP never gets old.

EA Sports MVP Baseball 2005. For the PS2. And yes, I said 2005.

I still keep a PS2 in my man cave just to play that game 10 years later, and I love it. It has the depth I need without so many whistles I can't comprehend it. Customizable players, rosters, and a nearly endless supply of sliders to change the game difficulty to fit my playing ability and desire to win/be challenged.

And what's funny is I'm not even that big of a baseball fan. I'm more a football guy myself. But it really works for me. 162-game seasons mean I can play a LOT of games in a franchise.

Football Manager... which year though?

Probably FM11 or FM09.

EUIV is in the running too.

Probably City of Heroes. Of course, I can't play it at all.

Civilization of some sort. Probably V with the Brave New World expansion.

Civ V probably. OOTP is a good choice especially considering all the customization. But, if there were a faithful update of Steel Panthers, I'd have to give that serious consideration.

For me, it would have to be something in the NBA 2K line. It's all I play now, and I wouldn't change it.

OOTP and it's not even close. I play out all of my games and have the same game going today that I started in 2002 with OOTP4.

1. future game that will be released at some point by somebody that is essentially OOTP\FM for the NFL

2. OOTP

3. Civ 6 - Basically my own wish of Civ 5 with evolving leaders and improved economics

and yes I know I just picked 3 when the question was 1 and picked two games that dont exist yet. I wasn't feeling "hindered by logic" this morning, the way I am most days.

Civ 5 if I had to pick one.

NCAA 14 is definitely in my top 5 though and I would be up for another OD.

COH is my answer, but if it has to be a game I can actually play, I guess I would have to say, even though it just came out, Mario Maker. The Mario concept never gets old and with a level maker and access to millions of levels online, I think this could keep you going a long, long time.

There are some ones listed that would be in my final five like City of Heroes and some sort of Civiilization, but even today with "new" mmo's like Wildstar and Guild Wars 2 new expansion (which came out today). I still find myself falling back on old favorite Angband and its variants. They created a whole genre of games ("Procedurally generated" or whoever you speil it and I hate that term) that shine today.

I don't feel so bad when I say Nethack for me now.

I don't think you cam go wrong with a quality MMO that you would like but haven;t done well.

But I'd still go with EU4. There are so many mods out there that you can use to extend play.

If I were going to do a later Rogue/Angband game, I'd look at something like TOME.

I guess at this point I have to say League of Legends, I've been playing it for what, 5 1/2 years now as my main game, even though I leave it for a month or two here and there.

Otherwise Civ 5 +expansions.

Tough call. College Hoops 2K8 was great and I'd have to put it up there. But I'd probably go with OOTP right now with Civ V a close second.

TOME is one of the few roguelikes I'm not that fond of :)

Maximum Football or the recent attempted remake of Front Page Sports Football

That way I would just give up gaming completely and use that time more productively. Any game would get old if that was the only choice so I might as well speed that time frame up to seconds instead of years.

Though if I really were going for one game I may lean towards FPS Baseball Pro 96. I love the atmosphere of that game and that was the one baseball game that I probably had the longest single player career of ever.

Modded Skyrim.

I would have given a shout out to Civ5+BNW but last year I have retired from playing Civilization regularly for 16 years.

Just finished 2028. Usually get ~2 seasons per version depending on real life.
I play 'em all and am never really in a hurry. Slow pace works great for knowing the league. Hell I have more memories of my league then I do real MLB over the same time period.

Probably one of the NCAA games. OOTP is cool, but after not being able to see the game gets on me after a while.

Football Manager.

I was REALLY tempted to go with Witcher 3. not only does that game have a ton of variables, it has Gwent which is a fun game in itself. But I'd have to go with FM.

I guess I'd take OOTP. I'd really want to take FBCB but if I can only take one game, I'd miss the tandem with Fast Break Pro, and vice versa.

I thought there was, wasn't there? Have you seen Panzer Corps?

There was a Steel Panthers updated version (winSPWW2) but I didn't like the direction they took. They simplified the armor and did some other things that seemed poor choices for a grognard's game.

I haven't really gotten into Panzer Corps but it seems more like computer Panzer General rather than computer Squad Leader.

Tough call. My top games mostly don't have the replay factor. I'm not a huge player of FM any more but the richness of the universe and replayability factor/number of leagues would make that hard to pass on here. Civ is a good call but I think even that would get really old after a while.

Edit to add - EUIV and CK2 are in the conversation as well. EUIV there are so many countries with totally different dynamics but a set way to play and only a few countries have a shot at colonization which is the most interesting part of the game. CK2 is a simpler game but more fun to play the game you want to play.

FBCB it is for me. It has always had that "one more season or month feel" that turns into an extra hour or 2 that you hadn't planned on.

I think FBCB for me as well. It's the one game I can always get into. FM would be a close second but the simplicity and flexibility of FBCB is too much to not get the nod.

With board games taking more of my time, I'm essentially down to 5 games: NCAA 2014 (which I played today), Madden 25, Skyrim, Minecraft, and World of Tanks. If I had to go with just one, I'd probably go with Skyrim. I just get immersed in it so it's just a great getaway game. I only fire up the 360 anymore when I need some time to relax and disconnect from the world.
