I think you have to put a good amount of blame for the pick from Tanneehill on the receiver. He's supposed to be running an out route, makes his cut at the 36 yard line but ends up at the 41 when the ball is picked. That's not how you run an out route.

It's not that. I'm stealing this from elsewhere (I think Grantland), but the Patriots simply iterate faster than any other team in the NFL. If one thing doesn't work, they try the next thing, if that doesn't work they try another variation, etc....
Your chances boil down to either a) do something they simply can't counter (like obliterate the O-Line and give Brady literally no time with the ball or b) try to iterate faster than the Patriots while also committing no mistakes.
The way they're playing right now (which can't last, IMO), it's just really, really tough.

I think this is more accurate. The Pats are definitely the top of the hill especially on the passing side of the offense right now but they are hardly obliterating opponents like back in 2007. They are beatable but only by a handful of teams and only on the road. I think even this early if they get home field in the playoffs they are easily going to run to the SB. I think if they have to play on the road against a very good defense they can be tripped up. That being said and looking at their schedule they may have two losses on the remaining games of their schedule. I think Denver and Cincy wind up with at least 3 losses so......

Yeah which Saints are they gonna face-first few weeks or last couple?
I kinda feel like the Saints are closer to the last few weeks than the first few. But it seems the Giants are great at making mediocre QBs look solid, so that worries me if Brees is actually getting his rhythm back.
And that also scares me as the Giants have absolutely no passrush. Like they might as well stop trying and just drop everybody into coverage. Plus Prince is still out I think so they are not much better at covering as they are at passrushing.
Add in the bad offensive showings they've had the past 2 weeks (Dallas score was deceptive...they did nothing offensively vs Dallas or Philly) and things could get awfully messy, awfully quickly for the G-men.

Really don't understand that move, to be honest. He's shown flashes of brilliance, and the team honestly doesn't have much to be happy about. I know they may need the roster spot with Hyde unavailable due to the stress fracture, but he's arguably the most visible player on the team in terms of a positive light.
That being said, he sucks at blocking and has trouble holding on to the ball, so hard to argue about getting rid of him outside of that.

The Denver D is nasty. I've been saying it all year. The numbers for the Packers tonight are just staggering. 140 total yards? 50 yards net passing? Good lord. . .
The story of the night, however, was the Broncos offense. This isn't a top 5 offense anymore and probably won't be. it can be a top 15 offense though and if it is, this team suddenly becomes scary.
I'll need to see a lot more than a game against a banged up secondary, but that was a hell of a start.

Are the Steelers serious with this "Bengals were cheering the LeVeon Bell injury" angle?
Because despite the obvious ludicrousness of this line of reasoning, AND the clean nature of the hit on Bell, I can't think of a team that has dished out more cheap shots than Pittsburgh over the years, including many against Cincinnati.
So they can just fuck right off.... especially Mike Mitchell, who whooped it up after destroying Marvin Jones (legally, I might add) in the 3rd quarter.

Sorry Australia/Rugby fans:
49ers Promote RB Kendall Gaskins to Active Roster, Waive RB Jarryd Hayne (http://www.49ers.com/news/article-2/49ers-Promote-RB-Kendall-Gaskins-to-Active-Roster-Waive-RB-Jarryd-Hayne/a1c25261-3aee-4e68-b918-a18670ad28e0?sf14756258=1)
A bit disappointing. Yeah, he had his issues blocking and made some mistakes on punt returns - not just the fumbles, but also a safe catch inside the 10 yard line. Still, seems crazy to me that they wouldn't stick with him, given how much of a train wreck the entire team is right now.
I was hoping someone grabbed him on waivers but seems more likely that he'll be on the practice squad which, to be honest, is probably the best thing for him at this stage.

Interesting choice for a challenge. He was down before contact and had control of the ball. It was contact that made him lose the ball but since he was down when contact was made that instantly makes him down by contact. I can't see anyway that is overturned.

I've watched more 49ers games this season than I care to admit just due to Hayne, and Kaep has thrown some of the most inaccurate uncontested throws I've ever seen from an NFL QB. It's 90% mental IMO, and they're better off sitting him, let Gabbert take a beating, improve the OLine in the offseason, and hope for the best next year.

I remember two years ago when Whisenhunt was the front runner for the Lions' job. Most people wanted him really badly, but then he went to Tennessee and the Lions got Caldwell.
I don't think it's worked out well for either franchise. Caldwell will be gone after this year, too.

The strange thing about Kaepernick is that the element of his game that made him such a promising player and a success for a short period of time was his running and the fact he was a legit threat to break off a 70 yard run every time he dropped back - and that seems to have completely disappeared this year.
I don't know if that's a change in coaching scheme, a decision made on high that he was too valuable to be running and taking hits or a decision made in his own head that he was too valuable to be running and taking hits, but he was never going to be successful as a drop back passer. It just doesn't make any sense to me at all.

The NFC South last year (with the 7-8-1 division champion Panthers) went 10-29-1 outside the division, ~26% win rate. The AFC South combined so far is 4-16 outside the division, 20%. It will be really impressive if they can keep that pace up. The Jags are kind of screwing them with wins over the Dolphins and Bills already.

Pep was kind of a hot name a couple of years ago, but I've never really understood why. His offenses throw the ball down the field far to much for today's NFL.
Unfortunately, Chudzinski doesn't really change much. It's the same power running/vertical passing game that is really difficult to make work.

Actually for what the Browns wanted next years 1st and 2nd most Bronco fans are happy the trade did not happen. Sometimes the best deal made is the one that doesn't happen. Plus, after our Oline gave up 7 sacks in the first two games they are tied for the fewest surrendered in the last 6 games just 5.

Yeah good luck with landing anyone with a recognizable name until either Grigson is out or Irsay sells the team. ..and probably both.
I can maybe see a Shanahan going there but onl if Grigson is gone. And thats only because of Luck being the talent that he is.
Seems awfully shitty to can the OC as if he's the problem moreso than the washed up acquisitions and bad oline or even Luck himself.

Been a long time coming, especially Lewand. Interesting piece of information from all of this:
(from CBS Sports)
2. Former general manager Matt Millen recommended the team hire Martin Mayhew. "You want to know how it went down?" Millen asked during an interview with MLive.com (http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2015/04/the_rise_missteps_and_evolutio.html) in April 2015. "This is how it went down. Mr. [Henry Clay] Ford -- look, there is some stuff nobody knows about, and they shouldn't know about. But, anyway, when the thing came down, he didn't know what to do. I said, 'This is what you're going to do. You're going to hire Martin as your general manager. You're going to take Tom (Lewand) and make him the president -- that's what he's been trying to do for the last seven years. And Tom could be an asset.'"
So, yeah, even though Millen has been gone seven years, his legacy remains. As for Mayhew's previous experience, he had worked in the XFL, and under Millen, whose Lions teams went 31-84 during his eight-year tenure.
The good news is that Mayhew was markedly better than his predecessor; the Lions were 51-66 since he took over (that's a .436 winning percentage, compared to Millen's .270). The bad news is that the Lions have been terrible this season, and have had two-, four- and six-win seasons with Mayhew and Lewand at the helm. Detroit did win 11 games last season, and 10 in 2011, but even the good seasons come with caveats.
Yeah, the sooner we can distance ourselves from the Matt Millen era the better.
