BYU @ Mizzou to be play at Arrowhead.
I tried to make it work to get out there for the game but was unable to.
This was a great looking game for us to start. Now not so much, but I am still afraid we will get our asses handed to us, especially with how we played against SJSU and the fact Mizzou now has banded together from something.

For the first time since the ACC went to divisions, the Ga Tech-Va Tech game has absolutely no impact on the Coastal division race. It was a good run.

Maybe this is the year. Strange that Indiana is the only B1G school Hoke or Rodriguez didn't manage a loss against. So, 19 in a row, 33 out of 34 since Schembechler took over.
Indiana's offense has the ability to make teams that over-pursue look very bad. You get Michigan into a shootout and Rudock steps back to what he was until last week, and it's hardly a gimme. I'd take Indiana over Rutgers most of the time, even though Rutgers won that shootout.

It's that time of year again. Floyd of Rosedale is up for grabs. Iowa hosts Minnesota.
This has some interesting side notes. Iowa is wearing all black unis with yellow numbers. Their alternate unis.
Also, during the day (football is a night game), Iowa is having a wrestling match at Kinnick stadium. So far they have sold 32,000 tickets for the wrestling match. Wow.

Iowa to #5.
I was watching BTN today. They were doing a "this or That" type question segment. The question was something like who will be ranked higher. Oklahoma St. or Iowa. The one talking head said Iowa. His reasoning was that Michigan St. lost, and the committee didnt want too many teams from one conference near the top. And lo and behold, Iowa hits #5.
I am a much happier camper right now. :)

Bad and good news for Coastal Carolina this week. For the bad news, Charleston Southern has clinched the last automatic Big South playoff spot that CCU will be eligible for by beating Big South newcomer Kennesaw State last week- :( For the good news-CCU is still alive for a playoff spot and got a lot of help from the top 10. 6 of them lost last week, moving them from #8 to #4 this week. :) It's Coastal's turn to take on Kennesaw State this week, and Char. Southern handled them fairly easily despite their record (6-2). So I'm hoping for a similar result this week.

The Dayton Flyers beat Kennesaw State this year. The non-scholarship FCS Dayton Flyers.
I don't think Coastal will have a problem with them. Then again, the Flyers are 9-0 and on track for a playoff spot, but still.

I wouldn't going into the game thinking they would be a push over either. They have a beautiful stadium for a FCS team and a lot of money pumping into that program. My guess is that they will be in the Sun Belt in a few years.

They remind me of Coastal starting out. They lost to Charleston Southern 28-14, so they are not playing badly, I know nothing about their strengths/weaknesses/best players, etc. Hard to say how they will do against Coastal.

NDSU continues to recover from the opening loss to Montana and the insane let down loss to South Dakota at home, the team rebounded with a 59-7 thrashing of Western Illinois and continues to rise. Back up to #2/#3 in the rankings they are making it look like the road to Frisco will again go through Fargo.
The biggest hurdles this year have been the growth of the defense which has a lot of new faces this year and the teams response to the loss of SR All American and NFL prospect, QB Carson Wentz. Wentz broke his wrist a few weeks ago so the team has had to turn to Redshirt Freshman Easton Stick.
Stick has played very well and the team has hardly missed a beat. Stick's not quite the pocket passer that Wenz is but his scrambling ability has opened up the entire field in a very different way. Clearly the team is Wentz's when he comes back, but the team has every reason to be excited for next year too.

The talk about Kennesaw State reminds me that their head coach Brian Bohannon was not only an assistant at Georgia Southern, Navy and Georgia Tech but was also the son of Griffin HS coaching legend Lloyd Bohannon. Found an old article from his hiring that talks about that & his background a bit.
Brian Bohannon: Born to coach | www.myajc.com (http://www.myajc.com/news/sports/college/brian-bohannon-born-to-coach/nXcds/)
Meanwhile, thinking about Griffin -- where I was the radio pbp guy for five seasons -- made me think about the guys who passed through there when the elder Bohannon retired (my first year there was their first w/out him after 18 seasons).
First guy in was Steve Shankweiler, damned good HS coach. Now the OC at Florida International.
He left and was replaced by a rather shitty HS coach, Darryl Jones. Now the on-campus recruiting coordinator for UGA.
That was followed by a weird deal where a veteran head coach (and former UGA star) was hired, then fired after three games. His replacement would last 14 years and go 138-25 including a state title. And then that would be forced to resign immediately after the title amidst allegations of "illegal recruiting of athletes and improper academic assistance", an investigation that apparently began when they allgedly turned in a crosstown rival for the same.
Point being that not only did I see two future college coaches during a short run their but that it wasn't exactly dull after they (and I) left either.

In the 101 years of UTEP football the Miners have *NEVER* won a game in the Eastern Time Zone. We're 0-19-1 and hoping to break that streak when we play at Old Dominion on Saturday. We've been playing better the past few weeks than we did to start the season, and we need to win this game to pretty much have any shot at a bowl game. However, the fact that due to injury we're down to our 4th (5th?) string RB in addition to the fact that we're a run-first team doesn't instill a whole lot of confidence in our chances.

Another loss to Michigan, comin' right up.
Indiana on a pace for 140 offensive plays, 396 rushing yards after the first quarter. Michigan leads, 7-6, after one, but it's like watching one of those boxing matches where one fighter dominates the round but ends up outpointed on some technicality.
The Connor Cook injury for MSU looked like it might be bad. That could change the Big Ten outlook. Both MSU and OSU have back-loaded schedules.

Somehow I expected that outcome. Man its frustrating how bad Indiana's D is. Their offense is among the best in the country, and even an average defense would have them in contention for the Big Ten title. I think I could coordinate/motivate/coach better than whoever they have there.

Furman was down 20-0 in the 3rd quarter against their former coach. They battle back to make it 20-20 with an XP still to come with a minute left. The refs call excessive celebration and tack on 15 on the XP. Missed badly. Game goes into OT and Furman loses on a phantom INT that if replay were allowed, would show the player trapped it on the ground.

Now that Leidner can throw the ball. The Gophers have a solid offense with Brooks leading the way. If not for all of the injuries the Gophers could have been very good this year. Iowa had the Gophers defense spinning around in circles the entire night. It seems Iowa could throw any back out there behind this offensive line and he would go crazy rushing the ball. Well done Hawks!

NDSU came from 17 points down at the half and down by 14 going into the 4th and took a very tough Youngstown St team out on the road. We were the beneficiaries of a controversial pass interference call and 2, count em, 2 unsportsmanlike conduct penalties on Bo Pelini, the Youngstown coach, in the 4th on the game winning drive. Our freshman QB ran it in with 39 seconds to take the only lead we had the entire game.
Last season NDSU finished tied with Illinois St by virtue of the MVFC tiebreaker became the official conference champs. We'd eventually play and come from behind against the Redbirds in the Championship game, which just accentuates the quality of the MVFC. The same scenario is set up this year as well. Both teams are tied at the top with 1 conference loss. Assuming both teams win next week, the tiebreaker will come down to how each team did against the next highest rated team. That would be SDSU, who NDSU beat, but Illinois St lost to. So that puts NDSU in the conference drivers seat once again.
I'm still looking for this team to grab a #2 spot and keep home field throughout the playoffs once again. Next week we play the worst team in the conference. We need to do the job then sit back and see where it will leave us.

So now that the PAC 12 has been eliminTed from the playoff that leaves likely the Big 10 winner ; ACC winner; SEC winner and BIG 12 . That leaves out Notre Dame even if they wi. Out I think and rightly so. I think the same goes for the Houston and Navy's if they have just one lost. If Houston wins out still think they don't get in. Maybe if NC upsets Clemson that will open up a spot for someone else. We badly need a 8team playoff.

Why do you think a one loss B12 would jump a one loss ND? I think if teams win out it will be Clemson, Alabama, OSU or Iowa, and ND.
It gets interesting if OSU and Iowa both have one loss. I would expect that to kill Iowa's chances, but I'm not sure about OSU. And if Alabama loses and both the SEC and B1G are without representatives it would be really fun to watch the fallout.

That first replay where they overturned the non-fumble call on the punt return was unbelievable. The ball didn't come loose until his elbow hit down - how they overturned that is beyond me.
The second one likely was a fumble, but unless the replay booth had an angle the broadcast didn't show, I don't see how they could have said there was overwhelming evidence to overrule the call on the field of no fumble.
UCLA got screwed.
That said, some weird decisions by Mora in this one. What the hell was up with that run/punt option? And they should have been running Perkins more in that game.

So wouldn't the Big 12 winner have more impressive wins if for example it was OU were wins over TCU, an undefeated Baylor and undefeated OK St?OU would have the best argument, seeing as their (late, borderline flukish) win at 4-loss Tennessee is by far the best OOC win by any of the big 4 Big 12 teams, but you do also have to consider strength of loss - ND's was on the road vs #1, Oklahoma's was at a neutral site to a team ND beat 38-3. A win over TCU would also not look as good if Boykin/Doctson are out.
