Uga IX, the recently retired bulldog mascot of the University of Georgia, died at the ripe old age of 11.

I'll just paste my social media comment on the subject

Rivalries aside, my condolences to the Seiler's and to the UGA family at large.

Among the live mascots, I've always thought Russ was one of the better stories. Twice an interim but the stigma of there never being a previous non all-white mascot seemed to keep him from being considered for the job permanently. That he was eventually made official seemed like a testament to his performance -- light brown spots be damned -- and that made him a figure I could appreciate.
