I've always played by manually playcalling the offense, and letting the coach call the defensive plays.
Honestly, I'm not at all comfortable with the new playcalling. I don't have access to every play, only plays for a given situation. I understand the principle... For now I'll persevere and see how I feel in a few season's time.

SP. Make all personnel decisions. Ask coaches reccos for lineups. Sim game until/if it gets interesting or I want to sub people.

In the FOF2004 era, before joining the multiplayer community, I manually playcalled offense for every game. It was just how I enjoyed the game.
Later, after I started playing multiplayer, I eventually figured out how to enter the numbers in the boxes to somewhat approximate the offensive rhythms I had developed from calling plays. I didn't call plays much, if at all, in FOF2007 or FOF7.
Now, the new playbook and gameplanning mechanisms allow a much more precise implementation of those rhythms. I find myself calling plays again to relearn how I want to create game plans. I highly recommend doing at least some playcalling to get a feel for what plays you want to call in certain situations and then working with your playbook and gameplan to achieve that result.

GM, mostly sim but once I get my team in order, I sit up in the press box and watch the games.
