View Full Version : A few FOF (7, might also apply to 8) questions....

Nowhere do I see the "player guide" addressing these so if anyone can help I'd appreciate it...for ex:
- how do you view game stats right after a game (or any other time perhaps)? Can't you?
- speaking of stats, isn't there anywhere to see the league leaders or stats in general for various categories during a season (individual and/or team)?
- is there anything more to the combine than the "interview," which apparently just means your scouts confirm/deny his stated abilities (is that what the yellow bars are?) Is that all, i.e. no stats on how he ran the cones or other combine-ish stats?
And is it me or do these interviews often not make sense? e.g. I just interviewed the top QB in the upcoming draft....the scouts give him really high marks in almost everything....then their impression is stated as "very overrated." what?
- how do you know how various factors affect a player's performance, or what they even are really? Some are self-explanatory, but some are less clear as to how they impact performance, and nowhere is it explained (for ex. "getting downfield," "adjust to ball," "punishing hitter" etc etc)....
Some of these maybe I somehow missed, but I doubt it's all of them, just trying to confirm what this game does/doesn't have; thx

These answers are for FOF7, not FOF8, though it's true that all or most of it is still the same.

On the simulations menu, click simulate and go to the week you want. There are detailed box scores and game logs for each game.

On the almanac menu, click individual stats or team stats, whichever you want, and you will drown in stats.

Don't have the draft screen at hand, but it shows up at the start of free agency (draft preview I think it's called iirc) and gives you an overall grade plus each player's results in the combine drills. The interviews give you are more accurate look at the player (the orange bars for interviewed players are much more precise than the blue bars for players not interviewed) and details about the player's personality, as well as your staff's assessment of whether they think his bars are overrated, underrated, etc.

It's based on the your staff's assessment of whether they think he's better or worse than his overall grade/bars. Oftentimes a player will have a high overall grade and bars that make him look like a hall of famer, but the combine numbers taken together just don't support that conclusion, so your staff will say he's very overrated. Sometimes a player will have bars that make him look like crap but he'll have great combine scores and your staff will say he's very underrated. You also have to keep in mind your staff's interview and scouting ratings; even if they are high they often they are wrong in their assessment of whether a player is overrated/underrated etc., just like in the real life NFL draft. Search the forums, there are a lot of threads that go into deep detail on the drafting process.

Check the help file for the player information screen, it lists what each position is rated for. Also, check the post linked below. It lists what each of the attributes mean (e.g., Getting Downfield - ability to gain yardage after the catch). There are also many forum threads discussing different attributes in detail.

Good luck. If you're playing FOF7, you really should buy FOF8. It's much better and dirt cheap compared to other games of this type.

Appreciate the info. d'oh on the ones I hadn't found before.
On these though:
The interviews give you are more accurate look at the player (the orange bars for interviewed players are much more precise than the blue bars for players not interviewed) and details about the player's personality, as well as your staff's assessment of whether they think his bars are overrated, underrated, etc.Well my point was that the yellow bars are sometimes in conflict with the overrated/underrated assessment. If the orange bars are all pretty much maxed, for example, he should never get an "overrated" assessment.

Thanks but neither of these helped. The help file is borderline worthless and that link didn't really tell me anything either......it's not like I don't know what those terms mean generally, but nowhere have I found how or how much they impact performance.

1. I understood your point and explained it above:
Oftentimes a player will have a high overall grade and bars that make him look like a hall of famer, but the combine numbers taken together just don't support that conclusion, so your staff will say he's very overrated. Sometimes a player will have bars that make him look like crap but he'll have great combine scores and your staff will say he's very underrated.
That's just part of it. As stated, there are lots of threads that go into very deep detail on the drafting process. You'll have to read them if you want a deeper understanding of the drafting process or play the game and learn from experience.
2. It's not as simplistic as it sounds like you expect it to be. They all impact performance; you can't rate the importance each of them on a scale of 1-10. If your quarterback is throwing a medium pass on third down, his ability to complete medium passes, handle third down pressure, his accuracy, timing, ability to read the coverage, and ability to avoid sacks all will factor in, as will the receiver's ability to run his route, adjust to the ball, catch the ball, handle third down pressure situations, courage to go over the middle if that's where the pass is being thrown, plus there's the cornerback's ability to diagnose the play, execute his coverage assignment, his ball skills, and if he's being double covered then the safety's same skills as well, not to mention the defensive line's pass rushing skills and the offensive line's pass blocking skills, maybe throw in a blitzing linebacker's play recognition and pass rushing skills and running back's ability to pick up the blitz.
All are important. You're asking a question that's impossible to answer. Good luck.

I don't think it's so simplistic necessarily, and I get that various things can come into play, but clearly there are some attributes that generally matter more than others (for ex run defense doesn't matter much for CBs)...at least that has always been the case before, and I doubt that has suddenly gone away. Oh well, again thanks for the info...
