Probably a sign I'm playing this way too much, but hey it's the holidays and I didn't travel as expected.....anyway.....

Just thought maybe some might like to share their more interesting stories of triumph or failure or "wtfo" (etc) that they thought was somewhat interesting or amusing or whatever. Others of course may disagree ;)

For ex. my second season I felt really good about improving a team I inherited with that first season, which despite a good O, was sunk by a pathetic D. I cut some dead weight and got solid if not very good players at most starting D positions, and managed to re-sign the stud QB, WR and TE to boot. Tight, but I made it, with room to spare to sign draftees.

Then I noticed my roster had 31 players on it.

:withstupid:

Did some fishing the bottom of the barrel for cheapest backups I could find, hoping after the draft I could round it out as needed. I did.....barely. God help me if injuries mount though.

About to play the season so we'll see how that went......

You?

My last 10 hours on the game have been used trying to make sense of the gameplanning aspect. Re-naming plays so that I know exactly what I am getting on the gameplan screen. Its coming together now. No substitute for spending time, at least for me. I am aiming for a generic 200 plays which I can use across my MP leagues, with only small modification need to help time constraints when the real world returns after christmas.

My mission for today is to try to work out what resembles a QB sneak versus a QB draw in the game. Anyone worked this one out?

I guess I was thinking more about tales of how a season went, like unexpectedly good or bad etc. Oh well, was just a thought

It is a good idea. I'm in my first season and 2-2. My subpar quarterback is doing a lot better with adequate at best receivers in our short passing game, while my running back, who we think is the best in the league, just gave a huge contract to, and who put up over 1300 yards rushing last year, is stinking up the joint. So the offense is doing ok, but it's still driving me nuts.

My team is awful but my FB went off for 100 yds in a game and had 86 carries for the year. I designed no plays and let the OC call most of them.

weirdest one i had was in SP 7 starters injured in the same game week 5 of preseason (injury setting at 100) 4 of them out until the next year 2 till week 16 and 1 till week 12..... avg overall of players replacing them was 43 i won my division with a 11-5 record and went all the way to the conference championship before i lost

In my second year in the Super Bowl in a row. I have an interesting QB dilemma. Normally I'm stricly GMing, but of course the GM has the final say:

Myron Fredrickson has been out with a concussion for the seconds time this season, but has just returned for the Super Bowl.

Which QB do I choose? I'm leaning towards Kaplan. What would you do?!

QB1: Myron Fredrickson - 53/53 - 13th overall pick

The guy is a turnover machine! 16 interceptions, 2 fumbles in 11 games?!

He choked in last years Super Bowl against a mediocre defense and threw 3 interceptions. After trying to defeat us in the conference final with 3 turnovers.

As you can see by his ratings and overall rating his avoid interceptions must be around 0 :-/

QB2: Marshall Kaplan 21/51 - Undrafted free agent

What's really interesting. His record is 7-0. His stats are great 102,4 (102,1 in two playoff games)

He's also rushed for 308 yards in 5 starts. Yes He gives us that option as well.

Get much yardage from designed QB runs with the 95 SF guy?

I only GM... I dont design gameplans. But most of the runs are scrambles...

Fredrickson is basically Eli Manning. Just start him.

I'd play Kaplan also. Less turnovers. Fredrickson is likely good trade bait.

For the ones interested....

Unfortunately we lost the turnover battle 0-2, conceded a opening kickoff return for TD and 95 penalty yards... So despite outgaining Arizona by 367 to 283 we lost... And it wasn't even close ... 27-13...

31/39 is pretty good, can't ask for more.

In FOF7 I was down 31-22 with 3 minutes left. Drove down field and scored making it 31-29. Kicked the onside, got it, ran like 2 run plays up the middle and my 70 ovr kicker missed a 46 yarder to win it

I only GM also, although I have been known to not be able to resist calling some plays if it's an important game and we're stinking up the joint.

I did a "reboot" on this game from Season 1 (FOF7) - after letting the superstud (and super expensive) QB go in Season 2 I had iffy teams and draft after draft did NOT have a top QB...and I had pretty high to really high picks. argh. Trying to draft 2d/3d rounder types resulted in 30/40ish QBs and no more than an 8-8 season, despite few weaknesses, though granted few real studs. Finally a stud QB emerged in the draft and I sold the farm to draft him. Hurt me for a season or 2 w/the draft picks I lost, but had better luck with the lesser picks those years, shored up the D, and the QB is coming into his own. Season 7 just finished and I nabbed a 10-6 record and a wild card, haven't played yet. This QB is about a 50/85 now so I'm spending a little extra time on the injury part of training camp and even if we don't take it this year, hope for at least a few years I'll be in the running.....

PS if you're at a critical juncture in a season, do you ever save and go back and try it over if things don't work out (maybe a potentially huge draft trade, or a playoff game etc), or do you just accept the outcome and move on?

Ned Doolittle

I don't do that stuff for trades or to redo a game outcome, that's cheesy. But I have done it when I've changed a player's position. Sometimes I wanna see what his bars will look like after the position change, at which point I'll determine whether to make the change or just play him out of position. I once got a lot of year out of a backup Center by playing him at tackle. His last few years when he juuust started to decline I decided to make a position change, didn't like it and just kept him as a center playing RT. His last year (as a 10 yr vet) I needed to carry another tackle to make the minimum and I finally moved him to RT (and let him become a FA after the season). But to change outcomes tarnishes the game. To each his own tho.

I'm the same as Ned. I'll move players to see what happens and make note of the bar changes for future moves but that's about it.

I'm more of a "huh, that didn't go well, let's see what I can do next time" person. I tend to like permadeath in games and rarely save scum.

joey2000

I accept what happens as how I'll go on with that timeline, but I have at times saved and gone back to look at a 2d try or alternate route if for no other reason than to see what else could have (should have?) happened.....
