This is a first-ever post from an FOF8 newbie. Are there basic requirements for a player to become a mentor? Is it possible to predict which players will become mentors before that actually happens? Thanks.

High intelligence traits and a long career 8+ years...

Shark,

I appreciate the fast reply. In a quick look in my first game I see mentors with only 5 years experience. Maybe somehow people are being grand-fathered in because I didn't generate any history...

Also, my wide receiver mentor (with 6 years experience) has an intelligence rating of average (43). Is that high enough to be sufficient?

Thirdly, I have no mentors among my defensive backs -- but my strong safety has 7 years experience and very high intelligence (91). He's also a group leader. Should I expect that he'll become a mentor?

I recall, but am not certain, that the leadership rating also matters for this. A search on these forums is likely the best avenue to whatever has been uncovered.

That said, somewhere along the line (I think in one of the FOF2K7 patches, though it may have even been 7.0,) Jim greatly lowered the threshold for mentorship. People were offering big money in MP leagues in FOF2K4 for mentors because they were so scarce. Since whenever he made that change, a *lot* more mentors were created. From a strategy standpoint, it basically renders the initial question moot here. In other words, to the OP, I wouldn't worry about trying to acquire players who might become mentors eventually, because there are virtually always enough cheap free agent mentors available whenever you need one.
