View Full Version : Where best to play one star LB

I'm running a 43 Over defence. I have one outstanding LB, with, pretty much, skills across the board. And a collection of medium LBs. If you figure I can cover all of the roles to a roughly equal degree, where should I place my star? SLB? MLB? WLB? To enhance strengths on the DL? To make up for weaknesses on the DL?

I have noticed that a MLB is not paid as generously as a OLB, which could save me some cash, but also has me figuring that it is a less critical position.

Advice (and/or discussion) welcome. While I'm considering this for a particular team, I'm actually more interested in general advice, or guiding principles.

I would play him SLB

Play him at the spot where he does not come out for a DB. This varies by formation, so you should check the Help File.

This is the best advice given thus far, and yet, it is a bygone in FOF8, where you can play a guy in a particular position and then simply put him in another in the nickle and dime (where his original position might have had him 'come out' and replaced by a CB).

I've got my Stud players playing in all sorts of defensive positions as long as their endurance holds out. It is working quite well for me in SP.

I think this guy is probably right here:
everyone is freaking out about size and fit in 8, I am rocking some weird shot in my MP leagues and think the market is over correcting. dude is a stud period. play him at safety or cb depending on opponent, no penalty on defense for playing out of position. DL and SLB might be a digferent story.

(Edit: In fact, I think the new leniency/fluidity for defensive position switches makes Endurance Gold). Ben should do a study of some sort on this :P

Ultimately I will be playing him where he is needed in each formation. Really this is more about what I tell him he is playing, which I gather the game will use perhaps as a hint when making substitutions, and will also affect the $$ he asks for.

If it isn't going to hurt me, I'll move him to MLB, which will save me a few million per year, and play him to whatever side or middle is best for each formation...

i also agree endurance is criminally underrated, even for secondary players. if you are going to pay a CB market value he needs to be on the field in all the depth situations.
