A long but interesting perspective. Essentially it says that California is 15 years ahead of the US as a predictor of what's to come.

If I'm reading it right, this is part 1 of 5.

Should we just marry this thread with the Hell one now then?

I don't think the Republican party is going away in 15 years.

I don't think the Republican party is going away in 15 years.

Neither does the author. Conservative movement of the last 40 years and Republican Party overall are not the same thing.

First, the Republican party and the conservative movement that captured it essentially would have to be neutralized — completely discredited and marginalized to the sidelines of politics

I don't think either will be "neutralized" in the next 15 years.

Shouldn't be surprising...Georgia, Alabama, Missisippi are 150 years behind the rest of the US.

I already thought, earlier in the week, how nice it'd be if that whole "breaks away from the continent" thing would finally happen.

I don't really have to add much beyond that.

To be fair, they're usually easy to spot. As are Giants fans.

I hope We don not turn into California. The country has enough problems as is.

Your opposition to it ensures that it's a good idea.

I fail to see how the gulf is going to be on fire with all that flooding going on.

Would you rather be Utah and have no fun? :)What do you mean? BYU just allowed the sale of caffeine on campus, I hear that whole place is going off the rails right now!

(Seriously, when I saw Utah "only" #46 on the list I looked at who beat them... no surprise to see the New England states other than Rhode Island high, but West Virginia?!? I don't want to speculate too much on it, but that's interesting.)
