I was wondering if anyone was going to recognize any of the NPC names. Yeah, I've read a number of his books. They are quick and easy reading that remind me a little bit of early Ludlum. Nice catch...

Which character names did you recognize that tipped you off?

I love David Baldacci. I recognize Amos Decker, Will Robie (just starting this series), and John Puller. All great series!

August National – Round 2 Preview

“As we head into round 2 we have Clinton Jones on the leaderboard at an impressive 6 under par. Obviously, we should prepare for more fireworks today, and look for a lot of low scores,” states Stan Hack with a ridiculous grin on his face.

“I don’t know about that,” replies Ty Webb (former golfer who finished second in the FOFC match play championship years ago). “The Thursday set up was a pretty easy one and it showed with the average score a 71.7, I’ve already looked at several of the pin placements today and I know for a fact the course is going to be much more difficult this go around.”

“Not to mention the stress of making the cut,” longtime caddy Bagger Vance interjects.

“I’d be surprised if the course plays under par today at all, in fact, I’d go so far as to say I expect only around a third of the players to be under par today,” Webb adds.

“Given that we have one player at -6, one at 5 under and a couple more a 4 under, do you figure we are looking at someone double digits under par as our leader heading into the weekend,” Hack questions?

Vance rolls his eyes, “ Really?...No I don’t expect that, in fact, I expect the leader will be far closer to the current 6 under than 10 under.”

“Right, I mean let’s take a quick look at the leaderboard,” suggests Webb…

“Clinton Jones – has played well in spurts throughout this season, but always seems to fade from contention, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him over par today.

Art Mullen has shown some toughness so I expect he should be around on Saturday. Kowalski is totally unproven, with only 1 cut to his name so far. I expect it’ll be tough for him to hang around with the leaders. The two players I’d keep a close eye on are Brett Hawkins who’s currently 3 back, but he’s had a strong season so far, and Ches O’Peake, who has had 2 really great tournaments so far this season and is coming off a strong second place finish. I think he’s sitting in a pretty good spot.”

‘So with the leader likely to be 10 under par, what do we think it’ll take to make the cut,” says Hack with his typical arrogance?

“Are you even listening to what we are staying?” asks Ty.

Vance visibly sighs, then answers, “I think 1 under will get you on the number at least. If you are even you are probably sweating it, but you might have a shot to make it.”

Even though it didn't help Schaplowsky much, but because he's got a lot of ground to make up, keep his strategy aggressive all the way.

Same essential rules for round #3 for Dawson.

Augusta National - Round 3 Preview

"As we head into the weekend we have 25 golfers still competing," states Ty Webb. "O'Peake finds himself with a 2 stroke lead, but that is far from safe especially when today is likely to generate a wide range of outcomes. The set up today is much more risk/reward and as such I expect there will be a few 68s or better and probably several 75s or worse as well."

Augusta National - Round 3

Overview

Schaplowsky - pretty quite round for Mike with his only birdie coming on 14, and only 2 bogeys at 1 and 11...he finishes 1 over for the round and he'll be EVEN headed into the final round.

Koekela - followed up his strong 33 on the front with a 34 on the back to finish the round 5 under par which is also his score for the tournament. The only blemish on his whole round was a bogey at 17.

Brown - struggled badly today limping home to post a 77. He'll be 1 over going into Sunday.

Ginsberg - has almost the opposite round to Koekela, where his only birdie on the day was at 17...and he had 4 over par holes including a double bogey at 12 and a triple bogey at 6. He finished the round in 78 shots and will be 6 over starting out tomorrow.

O'Peake - round 2 leader was 2 over today as he struggled at amen corner going bogey bogey at 10 and 11. He currently sits 5 under par, which I'm sure is disappointing but it is still good enough to be tied for 4th right now.

Justyce - very quite round for Frank who had 17 pars and 1 birdie. He is currently 2 under and tied for 8th.

Fujita - one over on the front, 1 under on the back - even for the round and 1 under for the tournament.

Dawson - unbelievable round for Chucky who went 32 on the front and 34 on the back with a double bogey at 12. His 66 was the low round of the day and it moved him into second place at 8 under par.

Hawkins - 2 bogeys on the back side put him 2 over for the round and he's 1 under for the tournament.

Vecchio - shot 75 today and is also 1 under.

Storms - 1 over for the day and Even for the tournament

Dorsey - couple of birdies and a couple of bogeys result in a round of 72 - even for the day and even after 3 rounds.

Robie - got to 2 under for the day and he'll be 2 under overall when he tees off tomorrow.

Connally - double bogey at 12 is the difference in his round as he finished 2 over for the day and he's 1 over for the tournament

Kowalski - after a slow start he got red hot on 13 going - birdie, birdie, par, birdie, par, birdie to close with 4 birdies in 6 holes and a 33 on the back 9. Overall he was 2 under for the day and he's 3 under going into Sunday

Goodwin - 1 bogey on the front and 1 on the back with no birdies - 2 over for the day makes him 2 under for the tournament

Bell - extremely quite day for Bell, who bogey's 1 and then pars the other 17 holes. The 1 over round makes him Even.

Puller - only 1 bogey at 11 but 5 birdies - shoots a 68. That 4 under round carries him to 3rd place at 6 under for the tournament

Phan - an amazing eagle at 2, but slim pickings from there. In fact, his 2 bogeys put his round at even for the day and he heads into Sunday at 2 under.

Decker - not a single birdie on his card, but there were 3 bogeys and 1 double. The 77 raises his score to 5 over in total.

Bly - only a bogey at 15 keeps him from a straight par round - 1 over adds to his score to put him Even right now.

Mullen - not a single bogey on the card and he adds 5 birdies to shoot at 67 and move to the outright lead at 10 under par.

Finch - after a birdie at one things went bad quickly for Finch, as he was 5 over through the next 11 holes, but a late rally that saw him finish birdie, par, birdie, birdie, par, birdie helped him salvage the round. After that furious finish he ended up even for the day and will start Sunday where he started Saturday at 5 under par.

Porter - late birdies at 16 and 17 help Porter scrape it back to even par which is also his overall score heading into the final round.

Jones - double bogey at 11 outweighs his birdie at 12 so he finishes 1 over. And he will also start the final round at Even par...

General Update

I'll need everyone's SOP for the final round. Be aware, unless the SOPs are submitted quickly, I don't believe I'll have time to play all the rounds and get the write ups completed prior to Christmas. Also, I will be on vacation the week between Christmas and New Years so it may be early January before we finish this tournament.

Augusta National - Round 3

Overview

Dawson - unbelievable round for Chucky who went 32 on the front and 34 on the back with a double bogey at 12. His 66 was the low round of the day and it moved him into second place at 8 under par.

Ahem....low round for the Tournament. Imagine if he hadn't found water.

Augusta National - Final Round Preview

Stan Hack "So gentleman, we are heading into the final round and thing have spread out quite a bit. What do you see happening tomorrow?"

Ty Webb "We'll let me start by saying I think the course is going to be very intersting. The pin placements show 3 pretty easy pins in the last 4 holes. I believe the officials are hoping for some drama at the end of the tournament."

Hack "Do you really expect much drama? I mean Mullen has a 2 stroke lead on Dawson and a 4 stroke lead on second place. Isn't it looking like this is basically a 2 person race between Mullen and Dawson?"

Bagger Vance "I wouldn't be so quick to state that. We've already seen a 66 a couple of 67s some 68s and we've seen some 75s to 78s. So if the leaders struggle the players at 5 under might get back into contention. However, I don't expect Kowalski or anyone under him on the leaderboard to have a legitimate chance to win this event."

Webb, "I'd agree with that. Basically, if Mullen goes under par tomorrow then the 5 unders and probably Puller at 6 under are going to be out of it, barring them shooting a 66 or 67..."

Vance "Like I said that 67 is not out the rhelm of posibility. In fact, I expect to see at least a couple of people go low tomorrow. It'll be interesting to see who it is. Plus the final round of the first major you can expect some people to struggle a bit. Strange and exciting things are going to happen."

Hack "Who do you like tomorrow?"

Webb "After the 66 and 67 of Dawson and Mullen, plus the fact that they lead the tournament, I have to expect one of these guys will stay hot and win. I'll guess Mullen because of the 2 shots he's currently clear of Dawson."

Vance "Mullen has been a strong player this season, but Dawson was second overall last week, he's coming off a 66...I think he's red hot right now and I expect him to win.":

Breeze Cup - Current Standings

The Breeze Cup is an end of year match play event that matches up the best of the USA against the rest of the world. The teams are made up of 6 players on both sides. 5 players automatically get in with the captain selecting the 6th and final player. The points are awarded by:

3 matches - 2 man better ball
3 matches - 2 man total strokes

3 matches - 2 man better ball
3 matches - 2 man total strokes

6 rounds of 1 on 1 match play

To win a team must earn 9.5 points.

Now that we are a quarter of the way through the season, it's time to take our first look at the leaders for the Breeze Cup.

USA World
Dawson 8637.5 Koekela 5320.83
Hawkins 5647.5 Fujita 3400
Mullen 5275 Bly 3250
Goodwin 4397.5 Courtney 3037.5

Puller 2745 Babson 2125
Jones 2359.16 Bell 2067.49

It is still very early in the season, I expect these standings will change drastically before the end of the season.

Hilton Head Tournament

1. PAR 4 - 410 Yards

A straight drive is imperative to stay between overhanging branches in a chute only 20 yards wide, but the fairway opens up at the landing area. A short or medium iron should reach a green protected by both sand and grass bunkers.

2. PAR 5 - 502 Yards

Long hitters can reach the green in two if they keep the drive on the left side of the fairway. Otherwise, the second shot should be positioned down the left side to open up the green, which lies on a diagonal, for the third shot.

3. PAR 4 - 469 Yards

Trees line both sides of the fairway, necessitating a straight shot from the tee. A large bunker guards the front of the green, with three more positioned to the right. A medium to short iron should get the job done, but the small green can be hard to hold

4. PAR 3 - 200 Yards

There is ample room on the right to bail out, and a hidden bunker behind the green can save your ball from a hungry lagoon.

5. PAR 5 - 549 Yards

Aim just to the right of the left fairway bunker, and then calculate your odds of making the green in two. The obstacles: A massive strategic bunker to the right, water and a greenside bunker left. A deep but narrow green falls off to the right and rear.

6. PAR 4 - 419 Yards

Devilishly difficult to master, this dogleg par 4 requires a precise drive to the middle right just left of the fairway bunker. Take advantage of the open avenue to the flag and try to avoid the bunkers flanking the green.

7. PAR 3 - 195 Yards

The green is surrounded by sand, but the real hazards here are the trees. They will reject any off-line shot and make a successful recovery very tricky. The green is narrow but deep, and pin placement can impact club selection.

8. PAR 4 - 473 Yards

Rated as the toughest hole on the course, No. 8 makes a well-placed drive essential to avoid water and strategically placed trees. Carrying the dogleg past the first two pines gives you a shot at one of the most elusive greens anywhere. Commend yourself for matching par, because you will have triumphed over a stubbornly resistant adversary.

9. PAR 4 - 332 Yards

Placement is more important than power on this short but deceptive par 4. Drive to the middle of the fairway and avoid battling trees on your approach. The heart-shaped green is protected both in front and behind by sand.

10. PAR 4 - 451 Yards

A wide landing area invites a big drive, but temper your gusto if you want to avoid the lagoon on the left. After a good drive, use a medium or long iron to get to a green nestled between woods and two strategically-placed bunkers.

11. PAR 4 - 436 Yards

Plot your drive to stay within the chute, because a dangerous duo of trees and water lurks on both sides of the fairway. From the fairway, a long to medium iron must be rifled to the green, carefully avoiding the tree gracefully protecting the right side. The green is also flanked by bunkers.

12. PAR 4 - 430 Yards

Reaching the dogleg off the tee is imperative for any chance at par. Then the green is in range with a medium or long iron, but a back pin placement can make as much as a three-club difference. Two bunkers stand as the final challenge to those optimists in quest of par.

13. PAR 4 - 373 Yards

The tee shot here must be positioned to the right side of the fairway to set up the approach to the green. Then the second shot will be a short iron between the two large oaks. But don't score your par until you've surmounted the two final obstacles - a large cypress-banked bunker and a natural bunker just behind the green.

14. PAR 3 - 192 Yards

This is a beautiful aquatic layout with water from tee to green on the right. Thanks to overhanging trees, the green is a small, isolated target with an adjacent, small pot bunker bound to act as a magnet for the unsuspecting.

15. PAR 5 - 588 Yards

You could call No. 15 a thinking challenge, since this great par 5 demands careful deliberation and shot execution all the way from tee to flag. To avoid nightmares on the approach, keep the drive from the tee as close to center as possible. This will save you from the fate of water on the left and zealous bunker-guardians on both sides.

16. PAR 4 - 434 Yards

The exclamation point of sand just about says it all on this interesting dogleg left. Avoid the left. But also beware the slalom-like pines to the right. If you arrive unscathed after that first drive, it's just a short iron to the green. Aim carefully. The cluster of bunkers to the right can easily humiliate par-seekers.

17. PAR 3 - 174 Yards

Water, water nearly everywhere says one thing: Take that bold iron shot and make it accurate. In this scenario, the 90-yard bunker is the next best thing to a friend, since it could save a slightly off-center tee shot from a watery extension. Still, the head or crosswinds, which are the norm on this hole, can easily carry a shot into the lagoon.

18. PAR 4 - 472 Yards

In his emerald-hued finale, the famous lighthouse becomes a beacon to landlubbers. A successful shot is one aimed toward the cherished landmark. The goal is the wide landing area jutting into Calibogue Sound. A word of advice on one of golf's most spectacular finishing holes: the long approach to the flag offers ample bailout to the right where the innocent-looking but insidious mounding has caused many want-to-be champs to lose a sought-after par.

Dawson actually finished -4.

He started the back at -2

You have him at -2 on the 10th

Then you have him getting a par on the 11th, but drop him to -1, and that stroke is lost the rest of the way.

-3 on the front, and -2 under on the back for a 66. Not bad considering he started +1 on the day.

The Players Championship

Hole 1 : Par 4 – 423 Yards - Easy
From the start, the golf course demands accuracy from the tee. On this slight dogleg to the right, a drive to the right side of the narrow landing area will give the player a good angle to approach the long and narrow green. A long fairway bunker, a lateral water hazard and grass bunkers await errant drives to the right, and dense trees guard the fairway to the left. As this is a medium-length par 4, the emphasis is again on accuracy for the second shot. Large maintained bunkers protect the front and left portions of the green. Grass bunkers in the front right, right and rear areas of the green protect the remainder of it. The drive will be with a driver or fairway wood, the second shot with a middle to short iron.

Hole 2 : Par 5 – 532 Yards - Easy
On this relatively short par 5, the player's success once again begins on the tee. A long and accurate drive will enable the majority of players to attempt to reach the green in two shots. Dense trees on both sides, with a lateral water hazard to the right, protect the sloped landing area of the drive. A small pond and a large fairway bunker on the right guard the fairway and green from 175 yards out. Deep maintained bunkers are on both sides of the green, along with numerous grass bunkers. The mounds located around this green give spectators a good view of players attempting to reach the green in two shots and players attempting to save par.

Hole 3 : Par 3 – 177 Yards - normal
A maintained spectator mound to the left of this medium-length par 3 offers a view of the entire hole. A shot requiring a middle to short iron is needed to reach the two-tiered green which slopes from back to front. A bunker in the front of the green and grass bunkers to the right protect what is left unguarded by a large maintained bunker to the left and rear left portion of the green.

Hole 4 : Par 4 – 384 Yards – Normal
This short par 4 requires accuracy on every shot. The drive must avoid a lateral water hazard and a deep meandering fairway bunker on the right. Very large and severely sloped mounds protect the left side of this narrow landing area. A well-struck long iron or fairway wood from the tee will enable the player to hit a middle to short iron to one of the toughest greens on the course. Numerous treacherous pin placements on this very undulating two-tiered green make this a protected target and a tough shot. A water hazard protects the front and the left side of the green, while small but deep maintained bunkers protect the green on the right and in the rear. Tremendous mounds behind the green give spectators a view of the entire hole. A birdie can turn into a double bogey here very quickly.

Hole 5 : Par 4 – 471 Yards – Normal
This dogleg right offers a generous landing area for the drive, as it is the longest par 4 on the golf course. A long fairway bunker down the right side and beyond the landing area for the drive protects the fairway. After hitting a driver from the tee, the players will use long to middle irons on their second shots to this deep, narrow and rolling green. The green is protected by grass bunkers, maintained bunkers, a waste area and palm trees

Hole 6: Par 4 – 393 Yards - Normal
The drive must avoid dense palm and pine trees on the right and two fairway bunkers and a lateral water hazard on the left. The slightly elevated green is protected by maintained bunkers, grass bunkers and clustered palm trees. The specific landing area on this hole offers players a level lie for their approach to the two-tiered green, which slopes down from right to left and back to front. Uneven and awkward lies, the result of shots that narrowly missed their targets, will cause higher scores on this hole. The players' short games will be tested here on a daily basis. Visually, players will be greeted by an expanded water hazard down the left side of the hole

Hole 7 : Par 4 - 451 Yards - Normal
A long slight dogleg right. A vast fairway bunker and a lateral water hazard running almost the entire length of the hole guard the left side of the fairway. The right side of the landing area is lined by thick trees. The driving area is very large and the preferred side is dictated by the pin placement. A tee shot on the left is preferred for a pin cut on the right and a drive from the right is desired for a hole located in the rear or left. The green is protected by maintained bunkers in the front and to the left, and severe slope off the back. water down the left was expanded, making it much more visually intimidating for players. The tee was also shifted five yards to the right, bringing the overhanging tree on the right into play.

Hole 8 : Par 3 – 237 Yards - Hard
The longest par 3 on the course requires a long iron or fairway wood to carry a myriad of obstacles. The deep, narrow and sloping green is protected by numerous maintained bunkers and grass bunkers. This is another hole that puts pressure on the players' short games. Par again will be very welcome on this demanding par 3.

Hole 9 : Par 5 – 583 Yards - Easy
A large lake and bunker to the right of the fairway collect stray drives, while woods to the left hinder second shots. The most important shot on this hole is the second. This shot will be a long iron or fairway wood directed to the right side of the fairway. To the left, a wandering fairway bunker and large oak trees crowd the small second-shot landing area. The green is very thin and severely sloped from the front to the back right. A severely banked maintained bunker guards the left and rear of the green, along with a small maintained bunker. Another small bunker in the front causes problems for players coming up short. Approach shots to the green will be with a middle to short iron. As this hole progresses from the tee to the green, it becomes more narrow and demanding. This hole can make or break a good outward nine holes

Hole 10 : Par 4 – 424 Yards – Normal (h)
the 10th hole doglegs to the left, with a large bunker down the left side of the fairway and very dense trees to the right. Again, the narrow landing area for the drive demands accuracy. Most players will select a fairway wood from the tee to set up a middle or short iron approach to the green, which is protected by two maintained bunkers in the front right. Grass bunkers crowd the entire left side of this deceiving green. From the landing area the green appears to be very large; actually, it is narrow and fades away from the players. This green offers a variety of pin placements, making the position of the drive very important.

Hole 11 : Par 5 – 558 Yards - Easy
This hole is a strategically designed middle-length par 5, which presents a variety of possibilities and potential disasters. Players attempting to reach this green in two shots must have a long and accurate drive down the right side. An immense fairway bunker stops shots hit through the left of the fairway, and dense trees knock down shots hit left of the driving area. Large overhanging trees crowd the preferred right side. Because the fairway is split by a lateral water hazard and two large bunkers, the player can elect to hit a middle iron to the fairway area on the right, which is guarded by a large oak tree. From this position a short iron to wedge is needed for the third shot. A more daring alternative is to approach the green from the left side of the split fairway. This alternative requires a second shot lofted high enough to clear another oak tree and the continuing bunker. The large maintained bunker runs the length of the second shot landing area and continues up and around the green. The lateral water hazard that splits the fairway continues around the back of the green. One maintained bunker covers the front of the green.

Hole 12 : Par 4 – 302 Yards - Easy
Players stepping on the tee at the 12th have the option to try and drive the green at the 302-yard hole, but that option isn’t without its perils. A water hazard guards the left side of the green, collecting wayward drives, and several pot bunkers and difficult terrain protects the right side. A large fairway bunker stretches the length of the left side of the fairway and forces an accurate shot off the tee for those that do not attempt to drive the green. Fifty yards of fairway and closely-mowed area rests between the end of the fairway bunker and the green, but the terrain slopes severely from right to left, towards the water. The green has several tiers, and slopes dramatically toward the water, penalizing wayward drives and approaches

Hole 13 : Par 3 – 181 Yards - Hard
A water hazard protects this picturesque par 3 all the way down the left side. Players must clear or maneuver around the water hazard when the pin placements are to the left. The green has three separate tiers. The highest is the right front quarter. The right rear quarter is just slightly lower and slopes away from the tee. The entire left side of the green slopes drastically toward the water. The green also is protected by two small and deep maintained bunkers.

Hole 14 : Par 4 – 481 Yards - Hard
The narrow two-tiered driving area is paralleled down the left side by a narrow fairway bunker and a lateral water hazard. The right side is overshadowed by large, deep grass bunkers located within a very large mound. Between the driving area and the green is a vast bunker. The green is very large with severe undulations and long slopes. A maintained bunker protects the front left side of the green and a few other maintained bunkers hide among very large grass bunkers to the right and the rear of the green. A driver from the tee and a long to middle iron are the club selections on this treacherous hole.

Hole 15 : Par 4 – 470 Yards - Hard
This dogleg right begins with a drive through a chute of trees and over water. The fairway bunker extends down the right side of the fairway to a paved path, then resumes to the left of the path and extends almost to the green. A large maintained bunker to the left and a small maintained bunker to the right front protect the green. There are grass bunkers to the right and rear of the green.

Hole 16 : Par 5 – 523 Yards - Easy
This short par 5 will give many players an opportunity to reach the green in two shots. A fairway wood or long iron will be required for the second shot, which must carry a large lateral water hazard, a maintained bunker and a bulkhead. All of these obstacles are to the right of the hole and start 150 yards from the green. To the left, a cluster of oak trees blocks a clear path to the green. Players who do not choose to attempt the green in two shots must direct their second shot to the narrow area protected by a grass bunker, a water hazard and the cluster of oak trees. The green has two tiers, sloping left to right toward the water that wraps around the rear of the green.

Hole 17 : Par 3 – 137 Yards - Hard
The signature island hole is a short length par 3 with a wide green that narrows to the right side. The right side of the green is protected by a small maintained bunker, which sometimes will be a relief to players who come up short of the green. Club selection on this hole is critically important; with the tricky winds of spring, the Championship could be won or lost here.

Hole 18 : Par 4 – 462 Yards - Hard
A fantastic dogleg left awaits the players as they prepare to finish their rounds. Constant accuracy is of the utmost importance on this hole. Water guards the full length of the hole to the left, while large spectator mounds and trees line the right side. A collection of grass bunkers is situated in the front-right section of the green, while a lone maintained bunker stops shots hit left and long.

sorry Breeze, I fell way behind on this, I was concentrating on getting a season done on my FBCB dynasty. As for Mike Schaplowsky's instructions, just keep them the same and if there's anything I need to catch up on, let me know. Thanks.

General Update

While I would love to proceed with the training prior to our upcoming tournament, I really can't because I had a number of FOFCers that took this week off. This means their training is currently set to 0 so if I run with what is currently in place they won't train for a second straight week, which will severely cripple their prospects moving forward.

If you trained last week, I will use the same settings for this week, however, if you took the week off, please take a moment to get your instructions to me.
